Tex POV
My eyes stared at the emptiness of the space I found myself.
I only had my boxer on with a lifeless woman on the ground.
I ran my fingers in my head, cussing and terrified by the terror that came after. The cold stuck to my skin as the memory was blurry.
What happened? It's just something I couldn't explain. I was soaked by the dazzling water of the swimming pool.
My eyes traveled to the balcony where she had fallen. This was a mess. Was it suicide or did I push her into my drunk state?
Panic rushed inside of me as I was puzzled about what to do.
How do I explain to her father that his daughter was dead? I'd just have my head served on a platter of gold.
I tapped her, like some miracle would happen. She wasn't moving. There was no life in her.
I wasn't scared of anyone, but not Don Miguel, the supreme mafia lord.
I ran my fingers through my hair, suddenly accepting fate. My eyes stared at my palms as I exhaled softly.
The cool breeze swept mildly on my skin, but I was burning inside.
How do I put the story straight?
I shut my eyes but spurred them open when I heard a cough. It's Lucy... she's awake!
That's a relief. My troubled heart had a ray of hope as I could now breathe. She poured out water from her mouth, choking.
I shifted my gaze to her, scooped her body from the ground to seat properly close to me while I stroked her.
I placed my palm on her cold body, trying to feel her pulse, but it seemed like she was lost.
"Can you see me?" I asked, tensed and jittery as I used my hands to clear off her scattered hair just so I'd see her face.
"Where am I?" She questioned, fleefully scrolling around and suddenly touching her stomach.
"Home?" I replied, confused at how she was acting absurdly. Quickly, I grabbed her palms, rubbed them together just so she'd feel warm, but she drew them from me.
The way she stared at me with disdain, her diluted eyes widened as her forehead was etched with terror.
She was scrutinizing me. My face went pale, my skin slick with sweat as water dripped from my head.
I can't tell why I was nervous, but I didn't like the feeling.
"Who are you?"
I swallowed hard and scoffed unbelievably. Is this a joke? It's not like I want to be hers if not...
"My baby..." Her voice whispers, cutting through the many voices in my head. She was freaking me out.
Lucy struggled to get on her feet, but she collapsed on me. I absorbed the feel of her, her cold breath bathed me as we stared intensely at each other.
I flickered my eyes, trying to understand the whole scenario, but then, I had to act nice just not to be implicated.
"It's okay Lucy, I won't let any harm happen to you", I assured, trying to cuddle her, but she pushed me away.
I expected that, we were in a contract marriage and no emotions attached. It's just to be on her good side when her father questions her about me.
Nevertheless, I aided her to get on her feet. Her eyes keep closing and opening as she beckons on me to stay away.
Judging from her attitude, she was in a muddle, trying to recall what transpired, but I went on to read the lines she had to say.
"Uhmm, if your dad comes around, tell him, you slipped and fell in..."
She was staggering, flailing her hands in the air and moving towards where I just don't know.
I raked my left brow, exhaling deeply while moving towards the stretcher to get a coat while pacing after her.
"Lucy, stop" I ordered, getting pissed off. She almost fell back in the pool if I hadn't grabbed her hand and drew her closer to me.
Her body yanked on me and, for the first time, I felt my heart thud, and I forgot how to breathe because I was flustered.
Only one person made me feel this way, but unfortunately, she's dead. I couldn't save her.
"If you want to die again, not when I'm around!" I scolded, seething in anger as the memories of the one woman I wished to see came flooding into my head.
My breathing was ragged as tears clouded her eyes. She looked sober and wanted to break into tears but was controlling them.
"I'd keep saving you! So give up on dying because you're stuck with me!"
Her body shook in my arms as her eyes pierced at me, searching to find an ouch of truth.
I breathed heavily as though reconsidering my words. Her lips part open, and her shoulder blade pulls together.
The next line her lips read was:
"Who am I?"
