Chapter 2 Danko's gaze

Count Danko's gaze seemed to bore into Emily's very soul, making her skin crawl. She tried to look away, but his eyes held her captive, drawing her in with an otherworldly allure. Thomas, sensing her unease, grasped her arm and pulled her closer.

"Let's go, Doctor," he whispered urgently. "We shouldn't be here."

But Emily hesitated, transfixed by Danko's piercing stare. She felt a strange connection to him, as if they shared a secret that no one else could understand. Danko's gaze seemed to soften, and for a moment, Emily thought she saw a glimmer of humanity in his eyes.

"Welcome, Dr. Wellesley," Danko said, his voice low and melodious. "I've been expecting you."

Emily's heart skipped a beat as Danko stepped forward, his movements fluid and menacing. Thomas pulled her back, but she shook him off, her curiosity getting the better of her.

"Expecting me?" she repeated, trying to sound calm. "How did you know I was coming?"

Danko smiled, revealing sharp fangs that seemed to gleam in the moonlight. "I have my ways," he said, his voice dripping with mystery.

Suddenly, a faint cry echoed through the night air, followed by the sound of rustling leaves. Emily's heart raced as she realized that the missing girl might be nearby.

"Let's find the girl," Emily said, her voice firm. "We can't just stand here."

Danko's smile grew wider, and he nodded graciously. "Very well, Doctor. Let's go."
