Ava's eyes snapped open, her head hurt and her body sore. She struggled to keep her eyes open as she looked around the unfamiliar room.
Memories of last night came rushing into her mind. The warehouse, Anthony, Kyle coming to save her, the gunshot, and...
She jerked upright,
"Kyle!"
A sudden movement by the side caused her to freeze. She quickly turned to see Kyle sleeping soundly beside her. She sighed in relief when she noticed he was breathing.
Bandages wrapped tightly around his shoulder, his arm, and his waist. She wondered how much of a fight he had put up to get to her last night.
She closed her eyes in relief before massaging her temples. She was at Kyle's house, she recalled last night, how he shifted immediately into his wolf form after getting shot.
She has seen many wolves before but Kyle's wolf is darker and different and he dispenses fear. He was the typical definition of danger. His fur was dark and his aura was commanding and ancient.
She had fallen asleep while riding on his back, she shook her head. Was she supposed to sleep at such a moment? She scolded herself.
Her gaze drifted back at Kyle again, she sighed, clearing his forehead off the strands of hair that hung from his head,
"I'm sorry. I caused you trouble,"
"You didn't cause me any trouble, my fine wolf. I'm the trouble," Kyle spoke, his eyes opened as his lips curled into a teasing grin. His rough voice was low and amused.
Ava's heart skipped when she saw him awake, she tried to take her hand off but he caught her wrist firmly pulling her closer to him so that she almost fell on his chest.
"How's my little wolf doing?"
She gulped, flustered, "I thought you were asleep,"
"And I thought you were going to sneak away before I wake up, again," he grinned.
Ava couldn't understand why he was so energetic, she asked hesitantly,
"How's your wound?"
"All gone. Thanks to you," he sat up.
"Thanks to me?" Ava asked in confusion but Kyle didn't respond.
Ava examined his body, his firm abs that was covered with the bandage, and his left shoulder, the very spot Anthony had shot him.
"I would love to sit here all day and watch you stare at me but we have somewhere to be, so, go get freshen up."
Kyle smirked as he stood up to his feet, Ava stuttered with flushed cheeks,
"I wasn't staring!"
"Sure you weren't," he stretched, amusement dancing in his eyes. He feels good. He was delighted to have seen his wolf again, after so many years and he knew without a doubt that it had something to do with her.
Definitely
He was keeping her for sure now.
"Where are we going?" Ava suddenly asked as she stood to her feet. She doesn't know where they are– she suspected they were in his house, then where were they off to?
"You'll see" Kyle replied. "There's the bathroom, towels are in there. I'll ask someone to get you some clothes. Be quick,"
He walked out after those instructions, causing Ava to wonder how he was moving like that after being shot.
*****
"We are here," Kyle hummed as he killed the engine of the car. Ava's heart began to palpitate when she realized where they were.
No!
"I'm not coming with you," she muttered.
"Oh, you are, sweetheart," his voice laced with amusement. He stepped down from the car and walked towards the other side of the car, he opened the door,
"Out, little wolf,"
Ava's jaws clenched, she didn't want to see them. She couldn't face them. Why was Kyle doing this to her?
But Kyle wasn't waiting. He grabbed her wrist gently yet firmly, guiding her inside.
Ava gulped when she saw the maids and servants she normally talked with whenever she came to the pack house. They all ignored her like she wasn't even there.
Her fingers curled into the fabric of her gown.
"Anthony!" Kyle yelled the minute they stepped into the large space. His voice was cold and void of any warmth.
Ava stiffened, No, no, no.
She prayed that there weren't going to be any shooting or fighting, she couldn't take anymore. Just how many days she met this man, she has heard more gunshots than she has ever heard in her life.
"Come on out, Anthony!"
"What do I owe this visit?" Alpha Matthew stepped out instead. Ava took a step back, but when she saw her father with him, her breath hitched.
Her father barely spared her a glance before they rested on Kyle, her heart sank.
"I wouldn't visit you, Matthew; you know that," Kyle said coolly, "I came for Anthony."
"Why would you want to see my son?" Matthew asked,
Kyle smiled, slow and dangerous, "To return a favor"
The temperature in the room had dropped. Kyle was no longer himself, darkness flicked through his eyes as he asked,
"Where the fuck is your son?"
"He is not here," Alpha Matthew replied. His gaze shifted from Kyle to Ava who remained behind Kyle.
"Do not lie to me, brother. I can smell him," his lips tug into a sneer.
Alpha Matthew's eyes widened, "What- what- do you mean you can... smell him?" He stuttered and Kyle smirked. A cold smirk that caused those who saw it to shiver,
"Your son tried to rape my woman and put a bullet in my shoulder," Kyle reported. Alpha Matthew frowned but Kyle continued,
"That's not why I'm here though. His actions forced my wolf out and you know what that means," Kyle's voice rang through the living room.
Alpha Matthew paled, along with Beta Ryan.
"You- that's not true," Alpha Matthew staggered backward
"It isn't?" Kyle asked, "Do you want some demonstration?"
Beta Ryan's gaze finally darted to his daughter, "Come, Ava,"
Kyle's eyes darkened.
Ava's eyes that were once down looked up at her father, her eyes turned teary, her father was calling for her. Has he forgiven her?
"Dad?" her voice wavered.
"Come, I'll forgive you. We can arrange the wedding again. It won't be like last time,"
"What?" Her voice broke in pain. Did her father not hear what Kyle said? "Dad, Anthony tried to-"
"Anthony is willing to accept you back," Beta Ryan spoke, cutting her off. Anthony suddenly appeared. His eyes resting on Ava with a proud smirk, he stretched his hand,
"Yes, Ava, I promise you. I will accept you as my Luna and mate"
Something snapped inside Ava as she screamed, "No!" Her voice rang through the living room. She clung to Kyle like he was her lifeline.
"Ava!" Her father drawled in anger and disapproval.
Kyle stood in front of her protectively,
"She said No, Beta," Kyle intruded, his eyes flicked from blue to a golden color, "My mate is going nowhere with nobody"
"Your mate?" Anthony, Alpha Matthew, and Ryan Beta asked simultaneously.
"My mate?" Ava pulled away from him slightly to meet his eyes.
