The hall was quiet, even a drop of a pin could be heard. Kyle's eyes darkened with every second that passed, his finger traced the purple bruises on her face, and his jaw clenched. His touch was gentle but the storm in his eyes caused whoever saw it to tremble.
"Who did this to you?" His voice came out cold, and his gentle thumb caressed her swollen cheek, "Tell me, sweetheart," his voice suddenly became soft.
Ava remained mute; she didn't know what to say. She doesn't know how safe she would be with this man before her or should she just remain with the devil she already knows?
"Ava, who touched you?" His voice was low yet demanding.
"Uncle, you're ruining my wedding cerem-"
One minute Kyle was facing Ava and the next, his right hand was clutching Anthony's neck. His movements were fast, too fast. The hall erupted in gasps,
"You have the guts to touch my woman?!" He asked through gritted teeth. Anthony's hands reached for Kyle's wrist trying to help himself out of the helpless situation.
"I... I didn't do... anything!" He struggled to speak.
"Kyle, stop this right now!" Alpha Matthew yelled.
"You laid your filthy hands on her?" Kyle ignored Alpha Matthew; his voice sent a chill down Anthony as he cried,
"I didn't, she must have gotten into a fight last night!" He choked.
"Kyle Dennison George!" Alpha Matthew yelled. Kyle's sharp eyes examined Anthony for a while before his hand loosened on Anthony's throat roughly. His eyes flared with fury but he didn't say a word. He walked over to Ava,
"Did you get into a fight, little wolf?" Kyle asked Ava with a gentle voice that made people wonder if he was the same person whose voice had caused the crowd to panic a while ago.
Ava couldn't answer, she was trapped. She felt ashamed and also didn't know what to say about his possessiveness towards her.
"No?" He asked and answered by himself, "No"
He turned to Anthony, "She was with me last night, so how on earth did she get into a fight? Or else you beat her up!"
"She was supposed to keep herself for me." Anthony yelled in complete rage, "She gave herself to another man!"
Anger flicked through Kyle's eyes, he was marching towards Anthony for the second time when Alpha Matthew came standing between them, his gaze hardened,
"What the hell are you doing here, Kyle? You promised you wouldn't come to your nephew's wedding"
Kyle's eyes remained on Anthony for a while before they finally shifted to his elder brother, Matthew George, the Alpha of Dominion pack. He turned to see Ava still rooted on the spot, her off-shoulder gown exposed the hickey on her skin, he smirked. He liked it. He returned his gaze to Alpha Matthew,
"I came to take what's mine."
"You are crossing the line, Kyle" Alpha Matthew and Kyle let out a chuckle. He wanted to say some more, as they both locked gaze for a while.
The tension in the room was so intense that the people could tell that both brothers had bad blood. Alpha Matthew stiffened for a while, his jaws hard, he finally spat,
"Then take it and leave!"
Kyle's lips tug upwards; he marches away from Alpha Matthew and grabs Ava by her wrist,
"Let's get out of here"
"What?" Ava almost choked on her spit, her eyes wide. What was he doing?
"You cannot do that!" Anthony argued, "Why would she go with you?" He asked, enraged. Ava was his mate!
"Because she's mine. That's why" Kyle simply replied before pulling Ava out. Ava's eyes landed on her parents who had a disappointed look on their faces, their eyes filled with anger.
"Father, you can't let him take her" Anthony shouted, not understanding why his father wasn't doing anything about it.
Not wanting to face the wrath of her parents just yet, Ava allowed Kyle to pull her to the black SUV. One minute she was having her mating ceremony, the next minute she was in a car with the man she had slept with the night before.
She glanced at him through the corner of her eyes and wondered what on earth he was doing with her. The car moved smoothly through the city, the car was silent, so silent that Ava suspects that the man could hear her erratic heartbeat. Ava cleared her throat,
"Where are we heading?"
"I have something to do before we head home"
Ava bit her lips, home? Which home? What the fuck was she doing following a man she had a one-night stand with? Her fiancée's uncle! Someone she had never seen or even know about.
She knows almost everyone in the Alpha's family, but Kyle... Kyle wasn't someone she had ever come across, not even his picture was amongst the frames on their walls of frame. Why is that?
Questions filled her heart and she wanted to ask them but she didn't know where to start. Her head kept reminiscing all that happened a while ago. Her eyes were wide, she was looking out the window until the car came to an erupt stop in front of a three-storey building.
Ava wondered what they were doing here, she was sure this wasn't his house because he had said they needed to hear somewhere first.
"Stay here," he ordered her before stepping down from the car. Ava wanted to ask how long he would take but he was already gone before she could. Shutting her eyes, she sighed.
A small sob escaped her throat some minute later; her life was a complete mess now. There is no way she can prosper in a pack where she publicly dishonored the Alpha and his family. Her event planning career has gone down the drain.
Her hands covered her face as she allowed the tears to fall.
"This is all my fault" she cried. She was still reminiscing on her life when a gunshot was fired causing her to unconsciously duck.
Her eyes wide as she tried to peep through the window, men she had never seen earlier around the warehouse, now began to pop out of nowhere with guns. Ava's head screamed at her to run away from the scene.
Gunshots erupted from every corner causing Ava to scream inside the car.
"I have to get out of here, I have to get out of here," she kept repeating the words as she slipped from her seat to the driver's seat. The moment she opened the door, the gunshots became louder and the smell of gunpowder and oil filled the atmosphere.
"Oh my God..." she cried as she crawled down the car. Ava took off her heels and threw them back inside the car before she began to crawl as fast as she could with her silver gown towards the bush very close to where the car was parked.
With a racing heart and shallow breathing, Ava was able to make it into the woods. She finally stood up to her feet and began to run so fast without looking back.
What has she gotten herself into? He was involved with dangerous people, the man she had slept with. As she ran, the realization hit her hard,
No, he wasn't involved. He is the danger himself!
Her breathing came out in short gasps, her heart pounding on her chest, and her mouth dried as her breath became hot. Sweat beads formed on her face and even though it was now dark and difficult to see the path, she didn't stop running until she got into the main road.
The moment she got to the road, she tried to flag a cab, any cab. She just needs to get out of there. Under her feet hurt like hell, she didn't know how bad it was but she knew she was wounded.
Her head kept darting left and right, back and forth, checking over her shoulders if she was being followed by Kyle or any of the men with guns. She cannot die now, she doesn't want to.
Cars passed but no one stopped for her, no matter how hard she tried. Not until a red car came to an erupting halt in front of her. Without thinking, Ava rushed into the car,
"Just drive, please," she pleaded as she looked out the window, checking if Kyle was tailing her. Her hair was now scattered, her lips dried, with her fingers still trembling.
"My pleasure," the familiar voice replied.
Ava stiffened.
