Chapter 4 Haunted dreams

CHAPTER 4

Kaiser's lips trembled in a silent scream, "Kess... somebody please help..." As he jolted awake from his dream, a chill coursed through his veins. He instinctively reached for his antidepressant medication, a constant companion in his darkest moments.

Kaiser was the sole heir to his family's fortune, known to the public as an only child. But behind closed doors, he had a sister, Kess, a delicate flower hidden from the world due to her disabilities. She was confined to a wheelchair, her fragile body weakened by a lifetime of struggles. Her mind, too, was trapped in a prison of its own, 50% impaired by the cruel hand of fate.

Kaiser's heart ached with love for his sister, despite the distance their parents had forced between them. He was five years older, but the gap in their ages seemed to shrink as he gazed into her eyes. He longed to play with her, to laugh with her, to be a brother to her. But their parents' fear of scandal had kept them apart.

On Kaiser's 10th birthday, he had made a wish to his parents, a wish to spend the day with his beloved sister. They had tried to make it happen, planning a vacation to a secluded paradise, a place where Kess could be herself without fear of prying eyes.

But fate had other plans. An urgent call from the company had summoned their parents away, leaving Kaiser and Kess in the care of their nanny. The nanny, distracted by the beauty of their surroundings, had left Kaiser to care for his sister.

Tragedy struck when Kaiser, unaware of Kess's severe allergies, fed her a candy that would prove fatal. As she gasped for air, Kaiser's world came crashing down. He called for help, but the hotel's damaged phone lines left him isolated and alone.

Panic set in as he tried to rush Kess to safety, but the elevator doors slammed shut, trapping them inside. Kaiser's screams echoed through the metal box, "Help!!! Help, Kess!!!! Somebody, please help!" But it was too late. Kess's eyes closed, and Kaiser's world went dark.

Kaiser's eyes snapped open, and he screamed, "Kess!!! Somebody, please help!" His mother rushed to his side, holding him close. "It's okay, baby, Mummy is here."

Kaiser had been lost in a haze of grief for three long months, his mind shattered by the trauma of that fateful day. As he slowly came back to himself, he asked the question that had been haunting him, "Mummy, where is Kess?" His mother's reply was a dagger to his heart, "She's fine, baby."

But Kaiser knew the truth. He had heard the conversation between his mother and the doctor, a conversation that had confirmed his worst fears. Kess was gone, and he was left to pick up the pieces of his shattered heart.

Twenty-five-year-old Kaiser lay in bed, his eyes haunted by the memories of that terrible day. The dream still lingered, a painful reminder of the sister he had lost and the guilt that still consumed him.
