I woke up the next morning early enough to have a nice and warm shower to relax, have a concert, argue a little bit with the shampoo bottles and, of course, last but not least, act out scenes from my favorite movie.
Yes, I was in a good mood. Why do you ask? Because I got myself a prom date!
After an hour and a half in the bathroom, I wore my bathrobe and rolled a towel around my hair before I found my way back to my bedroom.
I opened my closet and started looking at it as if I was looking at my math book. Lost. But knowing that I had 20 minutes left, I started throwing piece after piece around the room.
And when my room was fully messed with clothes all over the floor and furniture, I stared at my reflection in front of my mirror feeling satisfied with what I ended up wearing.
Not anything fancy, but I was dressed in a knee-length baby blue skirt and a white t-shirt that had 'sleeping with eyes open' with white sneakers on my feet. With that, I flipped my bag over my shoulders and unplugged my phone from the charger before I headed downstairs.
Yet once I opened my bedroom door, the smell of fresh pancakes entered freely through my nose. And I couldn't help but feel my legs weakened.
I just love food!
Quickly, I jogged down the stairs knowing that if I didn't hurry, Cody would eliminate everything set on the table. And before I knew it, I ran to the kitchen, only to see the last piece of pancake between his hands, going slowly to where his mouth was.
It felt all in slow motion as I jumped at him and took the piece from his hands. And even though I fell to the ground at the end, I knew that it was worth it because I captured it before he could eat it.
"You know I was going to save it for you." he rolled his eyes, not sparing a second to help me on my feet.
"Where? In your stomach?!" I asked as I got up while he shrugged.
I took a seat on one of the chairs around the dining table after pouring myself a cup of coffee. And with that hand I started admiring the taste of goodness that's between my hands.
Only then, my mother turned around from the stove and walked towards us with another plate of pancakes. And before Cody could lay a hand on them, I snatched the plate towards me.
"Learn to share, Madison," my mother said in disappointment before moving the plate close enough for Cody to grab some.
"But he already ate!" I protested.
"Speak when you swallow," she warns again, making me frown and sending Cody a glare.
Only then, did my father enter the room. And, as usual, with a newspaper in his hand. Even though he knows very well that there's a t.v. a room away that informs the same news...
He just prefers the old style.
"Good morning my brownies," dad said with a smile on his face. Brownies is a nickname he always calls me and Cody, because both of us happen to share the same hair and eye color. Which makes no sense because we share the color black and not brown.
So more like burnt brownies.
My mom is blonde and has brown eyes, while my dad has brown hair and gray eyes. I don't know how blonde and brown formed black, but I guess it's all about the genes...
"Good morning dad," both me and Cody said in union as dad went to land a kiss on mom's check.
And when both of them got back to the table and sat down, we had a family breakfast all together in silence. Well, until mom made an announcement.
"So, the Kingstons are coming for dinner today," mom said with a grin which made me chock on my food.
People really need to stop talking to me while I'm eating.
"They are what?!" I asked once. I forced the food down my throat.
"Oh, c'mon, Madison! The Kingstons are not that bad." I protested, as I raised my eyebrows. "No kidding..."
Let me introduce you to the Kingstons.
Mary Kingston, aka my mother's childhood best friend, is really nice and lovely, like my second mother. Not the problem..
Jonathan Kingston, aka Mary's husband. A bit too serious and formal, but I guess it's accepted since he owns the school I go to. Though, not a problem.
Jen Kingston, Mary and Jonathan's daughter. The devil himself living inside of her body, the hot coffee I told you about the other day. The problem itself...
And since her mom is my mom's best friend, we got to hang out together all the time when we were young. And trust me when I tell you she's a beast!
She used to rip off all my dolls' heads before throwing them at me. Sometimes, she would chew on them before spitting them on my hair.
Once a devil, always a devil.
"Wait, Jen is coming?!" Cody yelled in annoyance. "Mom, that girl is a witch!" Couldn't argue with that.
"Don't talk about my bestie's daughter like that! It's rude. And besides, Jen's an angel. There's nothing wrong with her. You two are the problem."
"Us?!" me and Cody shouted in sync again. "Mom, the last time Jen came over, she couldn't stop eye raping me!" Cody whispered in a yelling tone and I couldn't help but cringe.
I don't know what's more disturbing. The fact that Cody is not lying or the fact that Jen has a thing for my brother! Burf!
"And yesterday at school she called me a bitch!" I continued what Cody started with more facts.
"Both of you, Language! She warned him. "Dan, help me out here." she poked my father, whose head was focused on the paper.
"I'm with the kids this time, Tora. I've seen a girl mess with Madison before." he shook his head, disturbed, causing mom to roll her eyes.
"Well, I can't do anything about it now. The Kingstons are coming, so behave." she pointed out one more time before we both sighed.
I stood up, not wanting to argue more and ruin my mood. And so does Cody when I told him, "C'mon, I'm going to be late for school."
"Drive safe and be home early, Cody!" mom mentioned while removing the plates from the table and dropping them in the sink. "Sure..." he replied before walking out of the kitchen. And before I could do so, she called my name.
"Yeah?" "Straighten your back." she told me as I nodded, doing so. "Yes ma'am!" and with that I followed Cody. . . . . . When I finally got to school, Cody quickly drove off as I instantly met up with Zoey who had just arrived as well. And with that, we made our way inside the building and, hopefully, I didn't kiss any object this morning.
The day was normally exhausting as always. But at least at lunch, I got myself a distraction! It's food, of course!
And finally, when the day ended, Zoey and I made our way towards her car.
Cody already knew that Zoey was coming over, so he wouldn't be wasting any gas by driving me home-which made him glad.
And when we made our way out of the school's parking lot, we quickly got in Zoey's car and drove off the school's property with, of course, music blasting through the back speaker.
"So, I was thinking that maybe this weekend we could start prom shopping before prices go high," she started a conversation, lowering the music a little bit for me to hear her voice.
"I can't. I'm studying with Liam and I promised my mom to help with chores," I replied with a shrug which made her nod in understatement. "Maybe next week?"
"Yeah, of course," she just said. And not long after, we pulled into our driveway. As I mentioned before, my house wasn't that far from school...
She parked the car outside, and we jumped out, making our way to my house. And yet the second I opened the door, my mom's voice rang in our ears.
"Zoey! It's so good to see you." my mom squeaked, walking towards Zoey to give her a loving bear hug.
"Good to see you too, Tora," Zoey replied with a smile. Yes, they are on a first-name basis.
"Is Cody home yet?" I asked my mom as she nodded.
"Yes, he's in the living room playing that fortunate game again."
"Fortnite." I corrected. "Anyway, Zoey and I will be in my room until dinner is ready. If you need my help, call me," I told her before both of us started strolling up the stairs.
"You know I missed your bubble-scented mom," Zoey commented when we entered my room.
I dropped my bag on my bed and kicked off my shoes. "You know how obsessed she is with body soap," I replied as she laughed.
Later on, we sat on my bed and turned on the TV. We watched a few movies in silence, too busy focusing on the drama playing, until we both got tired of watching.
So, instead, we sat in front of each other and started talking. Yes, this is what we usually do when one visits the other. No pillow fights, no boy stalking on social media.
Just us and Netflix.
Netflix and Peter Kavinsky.
"I would totally bang Peter," Zoey said all of a sudden, earning a surprised look from me. "What? He's hot!"
"I can't believe you just said that." we burst out of laughter.
"You would bang him too!" she pointed out.
I opened my mouth to object, but then I thought, "Yeah you're right," I confessed.
He's just so damn adorable.
All of a sudden, a doorbell rang from downstairs towards my room. Only for Zoey to give me a questioning look. "You have visitors?"
"Kingston." I remembered only to let out a desperate sigh.
"Again?! How is your mother even friends with them?!" "Well, to be fair, Jen is the only problem. Her parents are chill. Which is hard to believe, because how could two sweet people have a devil?"
"Don't ask me," she shrugged.
When, all of a sudden, a yell from downstairs caught us off guard. "Madison, it's for you!" I recognized the voice belonging to my mother. "Are you expecting someone?" "Not that I know about," I mumbled before getting up to go downstairs, with Zoey behind me.
And yet once I got down, I became face to face with the front door. Only to see an unfamiliar, breathtaking figure standing in the doorway. I stared with a wide mouth at the guy in front of me, who, no doubt, had to be a model.
Strands of brown hair fell down his forehead with a great turn on, he had a pair of blue eyes below his arched eyebrows-the sunlight giving them a great compliment, making them shine like a pair of diamonds-and his jaw was so sharp and pointy, it could easily get you cut.
And don't get me started with his body. Dressed in a tight red t-shirt, making his bold shoulders even bolder. And those muscles, oh god! How do I breathe?!
"Um... who might you be?" my dad asked, standing next to my mom with a confused look in his face.
The poor hot boy looked around as if he was lost, before meeting my parents' eyes again. "Um... I'm Madison's boyfriend."
And just like that, my mind exploded as I finally realized where I had seen him before.
Oh my god, is he my dream boy?!
