Ryan was ready to wish his wife a happy anniversary but ofcourse, she had already gone to work.
He went down stairs to prepare the usual breakfast and he was surprised to see that everyone actually remembered his anniversary not because they wanted to remember but because the plasma television popped up a reminder. "Arghh.... Everyone look, it's the anniversary man coming." Roderick, the family friend said mockingly. "Hahaha, his wife isn't even home to wish spend the anniversary with him, isn't that pathetic?." Veekee mentioned. "Maybe she went to celebrate her anniversary with another guy." Caleb added and the three of them burst out in laughter. Ryan ignored them, he cleared his throat and said, "what would you like to eat this morning please?" "Oh I'll give you a day off since it's your anniversary day, I'm sure the rest of them would do same for you." Caleb said sarcastically. In no time, Ryan was done with the dishes and cleaning and he proceeded to Aether fashion house with the pink taafeite ring in a rugged old box. The staffs of the fashion house already knew the couple's anniversary. Some wished Ryan why others giggled idiotically as he made his way to Kayla's office. Ryan stood in front of the brown oak door, his heart racing but he doesn't let his facial expression say so. Taking a deep breathe, he pushed the door open and he was taken aback at what he saw. Kayla was seated on her leather office chair, her stares were enough to convince even a blind man that something was wrong. Ignoring everyone, Ryan went straight to Kayla, handing her a small written note. Kayla squeezed the note right before Ryan's face. "Happy anniversary.... I guess." Ryan managed to say. When he got no response from his wife, he knew it was his cue to leave. "I can see you're busy now, I would come back later but before I go, take this little box from me. I know it's too small for a wonderful woman like you but please I promise I'll make it up to you." Ryan said handing over the box to Kayla. Just as he was giving her the box, Barbara grabbed it quickly and threw it back in his face. "Can't you see she's not interested? Take your filthy body out of this place this minute." Barbara yelled. Before Ryan could say a word, Kayla pulled out a stack of paper and handed it over to him. "Here, sign this." She said with a low yet serious tone. "What's this?" Ryan asked as he was skimming through the paper. "Don't ask me questions, look at it yourself." Chills ran down his spine as he read into the words of the line. "There....I'm....this must be a mistake, today is our anniversary. What's a divorce paper doing with you?" Ryan managed to speak. Kayla stared at him, not knowing what to tell him or the explanation to give. "Look, Ryan, I know we've been married for four years but I don't think I can go in this marriage thing with you." Ryan took a deep breath and gathered some courage to speak so as to not seem vulnerable. "But we were fine yesterday, where did it all go wrong." "Things happen." "Things don't just happen Kayla, you make choices." "Okay I'm tired of this back and forth with you. I like someone else, I mean I've liked someone else, I've tried Ryan, I've tried to love you again, but the more I try, the more I despise you even more." Before Kayla finished her sentence, Barbara went to Kayla's front to give her a warm hug. Kayla didn't tell anyone about her discussion so the surprise news made her mum happy. "Oh my daughter, you always make me proud, I love you so much darling." Barbara gave Kayla a smile and a kiss. "How long has it been?" Ryan asked "How long has what been?" "The relationship with your new boyfriend that you could forget everything we've been through. The failures, the success, the love we shared because of some reasons know to you alone." Kayla stood up from her chair and starting pace walking round her office. All these while, her best friend and personal assistant, Evelyn brought out her phone to record." "Let me get things straight into your numb skull, I've been trying to be patient with you but your big ass mouth can't shut the f*ck up. Marvin and I have been together for six months now and I'm not afraid to say this but I really love him. He..." Ryan surged up, his anger evident. "Marvin? What the actual hell Kayla? So you've been with Marvin all these while, why didn't you say so?" "Because I thought we were it was just friendship, but it's more than friendship Ryan. Look at you, you don't have a job, all your dressing are out of fashion, I'm the CEO of a big brand for crying out loud, what do you want people to say about me and my brand or do you want to keep embarrassing me wherever we go?" Kayla snarled at him. She continued, "if you even think of it you'll see I'm doing you a favour, sign the papers please my lawyers are waiting and I have a boyfriend to meet with." Ryan was astonished, heartbroken, in awe, he couldn't believe such words could come out of Kayla's mouth.Kayla was so calm, she can't even hurt a fly but guess the calm ones are the deadliest ones. "All done, now you'll be trending all over media for a week, hahaha." Evelyn showed Ryan the videos she had uploaded of the scene. "I'm so happy now I can call this loser my ex son in law, this is the happiest day of my life." Barbara said, dancing excitedly round the office. Without saying a word to any of them, Ryan signed the papers, picked up the rugged box and made his way out of the office, leaving the victorious but mock full voices behind. As he walked out of the elevator, his eyes gazed upon his worst enemy, Marvin. But he didn't want to say anything to him, rather, walk pass him but Marvin also wanted to have a part in the mockery. He quickly went to Ryan's face to obstruct him from walking and said, "oh hi, Kayla's ex husband. You're top three most talked about in the whole of Rivetown, would you like to tell me how it feels? You know..." Ryan didn't let Marvin finish before he gave him a big blow on his left cheek. Marvin stood up from the floor in anger and retaliated and they burst into a small fight. When Ryan realized he didn't want to have such fights with such a b*astard that can steal people's wife at anytime, he pushed Marvin from his body and picked up the taafeite ring that had escaped from the rugged box and quickly left the building. "Thief, he stole that ring, someone get hold of him." Kayla and her mother and best friend rushed out only to see Marvin with a bloody face. "Who did this to you?" Barbara asked, touching his face. "It's that thief and low life Ryan, Kayla call him, he stole a taafeite ring, they cost a lot, call him immediately." "You must be joking right? Ryan can't even afford a bronze ring, talk more a taafeite ring." Kayla tried to clarify things. "I'm very sure of what I saw, call him now!" Marvin retorted.
