ROLAN
"You shouldn't have talked about her parents that way." Cole filled the room with his dark aura, staring at me like I'd just committed a grave crime. And maybe I did. But I don't care.
"You know she never got to meet them."
"What? So you're starting to pity her now?" I grabbed my white shirt and wore it slowly. "If there's anyone who has the right to say that to me, It's-"
"Zane, I know." He cut off. "He's the only one who cares about our mate, but are you sure you don't care about her, too?" A manipulative psychopath, that was Cole, always asking upsetting questions that got me all riled up.
"You can go fuck her if you want."
"Tsk bro." He smirked. "I wouldn't be able to lift that thing in any position."
"And here you are, blaming me for bringing up the issue of her parents." Grabbing my comb, I brushed my dark brown hair, keeping them smooth on the edges-just the way l liked it. "She killed Lucas."
"She's our mate."
"Don't tell me you're starting to defend her."
"I don't take sides."
"Then what the hell are you trying to do?" If there was one thing I was grateful for, it was the fact that we didn't look completely alike. There were similarities, but our personalities were completely different.
Cole was unpredictable.
For nineteen years, I still couldn't predict when he was about to strike.
"I'm just saying she could be innocent, anyone could have planted the substance in her room."
"Well, too late." I slapped the comb on my study desk. "She's been exiled already. I'm grateful I won't get to see her anymore."
"But I'll miss my favorite toy." Cole's lips twitched, his eyes flickering with a strange emotion. "No one to hunt with no more, Rolan."
I rolled my eyes. "You could always play hunt with the girls clinging unto you. Pay them attention for once and be like me. Fuck their brains out." I shook my head. "Do I have to teach you everything?"
"Alyssa's fat." He laughed. "It makes her slow, fascinating, and each hunt is worth it when she cries out." He crossed his legs, looking up at me. "Those girls-the plastic dolls-would never cry in front of me. It's like they fear me."
Everyone does.
"Goodluck on searching for your perfect toy." I strode towards the door, grabbing the doorknob. Cole's voice made me halt. "Are you sure we won't regret this?" It was the first time he hesitated.
It was the first time I'd seen my brother actually show sympathy.
I was too shocked to make a statement.
"She deserves to go." I responded coldly and headed out, breathing the fresh air that kissed my nostrils. As I walked down the hallway, I felt a sharp pain in my chest. Alyssa.
These past few days, I felt her emotions like they were mine.
Her pain, her anguish, her anger.
Right now, I could tell she was in pain.
But I'd spent most of my time in my room trying to train my wolf to learn to live without her. But then, I stumbled upon her. Her signature extra large T-shirt was the first thing I noticed, followed by the tears dripping down her cheeks.
My heart twisted in pain.
It was the mate bond, but strangely, Cole's words kept replaying in my head. She had only a few hours left before she'd get chased out like a criminal. It was father's last service towards her.
Alyssa wasn't ugly.
She wasn't beautiful.
She was just....normal.
Shorter than average girls, fatter than my girlfriends, but she was cute-to a point. Like always, I walked past her and ignored her like air, but this time, she didn't.
She grabbed my arm, her grip unusually strong. "If you framed me, solve it." She gazed Into my eyes, her pale green eyes stirring the depths of my soul.
No matter how hard I tried to admit hating this chubby asshole, my heart still squeezed tight each time she cried. "Deep down you know I didn't do it."
"Then who did?" I kept my voice steady. "Did I murder Lucas instead?"
"Please." She gritted. "Help me for once." She was used to this statement "help me for once" like it was the very last time she'd ask. But something this time told me it could be her last.
I'd never see her again.
Never.
She could be killed by the rogues or wild beasts in the woods.
"Prove my innocence. We're mates, it's your duty to protect me."
I slapped her hands away. "Your emotional card doesn't work on me."
"Then, you'll watch me walk into my death?"
"Father made the decision."
"But you're the eldest." She choked out a sob, placing a palm over her mouth to muffle her cries. "Help me, please. I'm so scared. I don't know where to go."
I didn't expect this to be quite hard.
I always enjoyed bullying her from a tender age.
But this time, I badly felt like helping her.
But I couldn't allow this useless emotion to develop into something I couldn't control. It was better to kill the spark before it became a flame. "There's nothing I can do."
Then, her gaze turned cold. "You're going to regret this."
