Chapter 5 THE NIGHT AHEAD

What Just happened?

did I witnessed something bad?

or... did I witnessed something I shouldn't have witnessed.

I met my Husband, standing on his 2 feets as he smoke from his pipe..

he was actually backing me but then turn to face me

my mind clicked back...

he didn't show any discomfort of pains when he turn.

he was just staring at me,, with an unreadable expression.

on his 2 God damned feets.

💨But he didn't move an inch💨. my subconscious reprimanded me which was true.

it might be maybe he can stand but can't move.

he supported his movement with his wheelchair.

oh! Poor Jade.

I sighed and walk back to my room.

slumped tiredly on my Queen-size bed.

What a Day!

I smiled as I roll over and lay on my back.

the scent of my room was so alluring.

I stared lovingly at the pink Butterfly design Chandelier.

I didn't know how it happened. I just doze off.

like a stressed out Married lady.

of course I'm stressed out.

SOME HOURS LATER:

"Mrs Carter".

I stilled sleepily on my bed as I heard my name.

"Mrs Carter".

"Hmm". I hummed as I slowly opened my eye.

"I'm sorry for the disturbance Ma.. your Dinner is Ready". Irene said with a smile on her face.

I nod at her and slowly dismissed her..

As I stretched on the bed. my eye landed on my wall clock and I gasp.

7:01PM.

"What!". I immediately sat up. "does the day moves so fast?. " I asked myself.

Anyways, I still stepped down from the bed and Head towards the Door.

outside,, then make my way down the staircase.

then standing in front of the dinning room.

It was empty... only a Flower Vessel and a Fruit bowl was placed at the middle of the table.

"Oh... Mrs Carter.. You're here!" Veronica the head maid said and immediately beckoned on the maids to serve my food. "You should take a sit dear". she said and helped me pull a sit out.

"Thank you". I mumbled after taking my sit.

My food was served.

it was a Hot Rice Garnished with Green Beans and Carrot and a nice stew with a sweet aroma.

my stomach churned at the aroma.

I immediately began eating, as The maids served me a chilled exotic and some deep fried laps of chickens.

"Hmm!". I moan in satisfaction.

"It's nice right?". Veronica asked and I nodded in approval.

this is heaven...

my mom's cooking skills didn't match this.

"I appreciate". Veronica mumbled with a smile.

"You cook this?". I asked to be sure.

"yh... I'm the one in charge of Cooking in this House". she said and I nod in understanding.

"I will give you 100/100". I said with mouth full of rice.

"Thanks Mrs Carter... anything for you ma".

I nod again as I poured myself a juice to help dilute the ones I have eaten.

I looked at the dinning entrance and that was when realisation dawn on me that my husband aint here yet.

"What about Jade?. won't he eat?". I asked .

"Oh.. Mr Carter?. He won't eat tonight's dinner"

"why?

"No reasons Ma... That was his order ".

"Hmm.. I see". I mumbled and continue my food, though I wasn't satisfied with her reply.

"Does Jade smoke?". i finally ask the question bothering me.

"No... I don't think Mr Carter smoke".

"you don't think Mr Carter smoke?" I asked again to be sure of what I heard.

Veronica let out a nervous chuckle.

maybe it was because of the tone I use to question her back.

"Actually.. since My 10 years of knowing Mr Carter, I haven't seen him lifted a smoke before... talk more of inhaling a smoke."

Her reply made me full instantly...

or should I said I lost appetite.

"But he smokes". I said again.. "I saw him".

"No ma, You're mistakened."

Woah! is she doubting me?.

I saw him with my 2 naked eyes,, he was with his pipe and his room smells like cigarettes.

" Yes Mr Carter is an introvert... but he have things that he don't and won't ever do. starting from smoking, Womanizing e.t.c"

"Ma Veronica". I called and she answered immediately. " Does that means that I am lying?"

"What?... I didn't say such a thing ma". she immediately objected. "I'm so sorry Mrs Carter." She apologized.

I looked at the delicious food I was just eating and sighed.

"I went to Jade's room in the afternoon Time, his room was filled with cigarettes smells, He was smoking from his pipe and also on,..." I suddenly pause when I remembered what he told me.

"Do not disclose anything you see here to the public". his voice rang in my head.

"I... I don't know Mr Carter smokes" that was Veronica's voice.

I stare at her face and saw confusion written all over it.

" if you could see him smoking... what else did you saw".

"Nothing". I replied almost immediately and she gaze at me with a raised brow.

"I know Mr Carter is a secretive person.. but I don't expect him to.be a smoker."

"Maybe I was mistakened". I forced a smile at her..

"ok... if that's what you said" she replied.

I stood up immediately when an idea popped in my head.

"is their an issue Ma?"

"Actually,, since my husband is crippled, he might find it difficult to come to the dinning"

"Are you saying that we should deliver his food to his room.?" Mrs Veronica asked with widened eye.

"What!. you haven't done it before?"

"No".

"Get his food ready, and have it delivered at his doorpost, I will take over the rest. my husband shouldn't starve himself tonight".

"Oh" Veronica blushed and immediately rush to carry out my order.

then another idea popped on my head.

it was time for me to settle with one of the most Transparent white lingerie I came across on my wardrobe.

I guess Jade should get ready for me tonight.

I'm married to him to take care of him

and I won't allow his cold attitude to deprive me of my duties as his wife.
