Chapter 5 The Revenge of the Rejected

After Efi returned from work the day Debby resigned, she developed high blood pressure and was later hospitalized for several days. The news reached her family members, co-workers, and Maxwell.

Maxwell was at home when he heard about Efi's illness. He said, "I hope this isn't because of me? Argh, am I safe? What is happening to me? Someone help me out. My conscience is still unsettled over Debby's case. I don't know what to do now. These ladies want to drive me crazy."

He continued to ponder, "Efi is worth marrying, only that she came to me in a seductive form in the beginning. I need to brainstorm and seek advice. If I ask her out now, she might brag to her friends that she finally got me. But if she's not genuine, she wouldn't have been so desperate. Efi is very emotional. I need to think deeply. A few days ago, Bright and Sofia advised me to find a beautiful lady to marry to avoid issues. Maybe it's time, but I must be careful not to choose wrongly."

A few days later, Sofia visited Efi at her residence after she was discharged from the hospital.

"Good afternoon, Efi." "Afternoon, Sofia." "How is your health now? I hope you're feeling better?" "Yes, thank you," Efi replied.

Sofia continued, "I've been eager to see you about something important." "What is it?" Efi asked.

"The last time I saw you with Maxwell, what went wrong that made you weep?"

"Hmm, nothing much. A small issue came up and we resolved it."

"That's good. I thought you hadn't resolved it. I would have helped if necessary. Thank God it's over."

"Where are you heading?" Efi asked.

"To a restaurant to get lunch. I'm off duty today, so I used the chance to check on you."

"That's good. Bye," said Efi.

While walking, Efi thought, Should I call Sofia back and explain everything? But who knows what's on her mind? Let me leave her.

-----At Jimmy's Residence-----

Mr. Pedro returned home and screamed loudly in his room. His daughter rushed in.

"Daddy, what happened?" "I'm fine," replied Mr. Pedro.

"Daddy, you're not fine."

"Where is Jimmy?" "She went to work and will be back this evening," said his daughter.

Later in the evening, Jimmy returned from work.

"Daddy has been worried and wants to see you," her sibling said.

Jimmy entered his father's room and found him in bed. "Daddy, what's wrong? Why are you crying?"

Mr. Pedro replied, "I've lost my worth. My financial status is declining, and I've lost my relevance since Maxwell took control of the company. I earn nothing now. I am no longer respected among my peers."

"This is serious, Daddy. What should we do now?"

"There's only one way, daughter. You must use your might to implicate Maxwell or we're finished."

"Sir, is that the only way?"

"Yes," he insisted.

"But Daddy, it's risky. Cameras are everywhere-even in his office. If I get caught, it will bring harm to you."

"What about his house?"

"Same thing, sir. The only hope is if we can manipulate the staff in charge of the security system."

"Who is the staff in charge?" "It's Frank."

"Get me his details."

Mr. Pedro invited Frank for dinner. After much wining and dining, he said, "I need your assistance."

"What is it?" asked Frank.

"I want you to disconnect the CCTV in Maxwell's office-not for a whole day, just a few minutes."

"That's hard. I can't, sir."

"Your price is 5 million dollars. I'll give you 3 million now and 2 million after the job."

Frank hesitated but eventually agreed. Mr. Pedro transferred 3 million dollars to his account.

A week later, Mr. Pedro called Frank at night.

"Tomorrow is the day. At 10 a.m., when everyone is busy, rotate the camera away from Maxwell's office for 30 minutes."

"I'll do it," replied Frank.

The next day, Jimmy prepared herself for work and the mission. She met with her father before leaving.

"All necessary arrangements are made. Don't worry," said Mr. Pedro.

Jimmy arrived at work and resumed her duties. At exactly 10 a.m., she went to Maxwell's office.

"Who is there?" Sofia asked.

"It's me, Jimmy."

"Come in."

Jimmy entered, greeted them, and then Maxwell asked Sofia to excuse them.

Jimmy quickly undressed and grabbed Maxwell while the camera was facing away.

"You ruined my dad's prestige and made him worthless! I also tried to love you but failed. Today, you're going down."

Before Maxwell could respond, she screamed loudly. Staff outside, including Sofia and Bright, rushed in. They found Jimmy's clothes torn and Maxwell silent. The camera was rotated back immediately afterward.

"I came to inform Maxwell about my upcoming leave, but he tried to force himself on me!" Jimmy cried.

The news spread quickly. Mr. Pedro called the police and insisted on Maxwell's arrest.

Bright ran to the control room and saw the camera was turned at the time of the incident.

Back in the office, Bright and Sofia confronted Maxwell.

"She set me up," he said.

Maxwell was suspended pending investigation. He felt humiliated and remained at home, visited only by Bright and Sofia.

A few days later, Maxwell's phone rang.

"Hi, who is this?"

"It's me, Debby. I heard about what happened. I never knew you could do such a thing. I'm coming for you."

Debby immediately posted on social media, sharing Maxwell's photo with the title: "Maxwell the Rapist."

Sofia saw the post and called Bright. Frank later deleted the post, but the damage was done. The video went viral. Mr. Pedro saw it and promised to reward the person responsible.

The next day, Sofia and Bright visited Maxwell and informed him about the viral video. As they spoke, Maxwell's phone rang again.

"Hi, Maxwell, it's me, Debby. I sent you a video. I told you I'd bring you down."

Maxwell opened the video titled "Maxwell the Rapist" and broke into tears.

Bright and Sofia realized Debby was behind it.

Maxwell developed high blood pressure and was hospitalized. After two days, he was discharged. Debby used the opportunity to make another trending video mocking him.

Maxwell became lonely and depressed. He attempted suicide twice. Bright took a leave to stay with him, while Sofia took care of them both.

His office remained vacant. No one occupied his role while the investigation continued. It was the darkest time of Maxwell's life.
