Chapter 4 Alpha Darwin

Veronica's POV

When I got home, I was confronted by my stepsister, Matilda.

"You have not been home for many days. Where are you coming from?" She confronted me. Finding a way to mock me.

I hissed inaudibly, "You are not my mother, Matilda. I owe you no explanation as to where I am coming from." I furrowed my gaze on her.

She smirked with annoyance, "You've got some nerve to confront me, right?" She scoffed, "Watch your back closely." She laced a threatening message.

I shot a deadly glare at her before deciding to walk away without saying a single word. Getting to my room, I exhaled, closing my eyes warmly.

Many hours later, it was time for the festival, and I was already dressed. I stepped out of my house before placing a call directly to Chloe.

She picked up after several rings. "Hello." She said,

"Hello, I am about to book a ride. Will you join me or come to meet me there?" I put the option forward.

"I will join you. I will be at the front of my house." She said to me.

"Okay." I ended the call and immediately stopped a ride that was going to take me to the festival.

Some minutes later, I picked up my friend before I headed for the festival.

By the time we got there, Damn! It was an incredible sight to behold. Exquisite chandelier; the designs were incredible.

"This place is nice," Chloe emphasised.

Both of us took a seat before the table was graced by the presence of Mr. Darwin.

"Thank you for honouring this invitation. The festival is starting in a few minutes." He said, standing on his feet and walking out.

"Okay."

Within a few minutes, the festival started, and the whole celebration was going very smoothly. Until after some minutes, there was this heart attraction I felt.

'What's this? Why is my heart beating so fast?' I thought in my head, finding answers within me.

'It's time we find our mate. Arise!' The voice was in my head, more like an order.

I have heard of many stories about werewolves getting a mate pull, but I have not experienced it in my life.

This would be my first time. I had thought the moon goddess had forgotten about me entirely.

I stood on my feet, ready to go find my mate.

"Veronica, Veronica, where are you headed?" I heard Chloe's voice, but what I had in my heart was stronger, and I wasn't ready to give a reply to Chloe.

I walked off the table, following where my heart led me, and in a moment I got to an open place where the feeling was so intense.

Looking around, I stumbled into Darwin, crashing into him while my leg twisted. Quickly, he held me tightly, beholding my face.

The more I stared at his face, the more I felt my heart hitting hard against my chest. My body's temperature surged.

"Watch where you are going next time." He spoke with a harsh voice while he made me stand upright, but as he wanted to take his leave, he suddenly stopped and moved some paces backwards.

"Are you my mate?" His voice was deep, and his face was harsh.

I arched one of my eyebrows with surprise.

"Are you a werewolf?" I asked, knowing fully well that we were in the human world and werewolves are scarce here.

"That's obvious. Did you feel the mate pull?" Darwin asked again, eager to understand what was happening.

"Yes, I felt the mate pull, and I think it led me to you." I said. At the same time, the wolf within me growls excitedly.

The joy that I found my mate rent through my heart.

Darwin's eyes gleamed cold. It was obvious that he was disappointed.

"Pretend as if this night never happened. You are just a common omega, and I, Darwin, the Alpha of the night owl pack, will not stoop so low as to accept this mate bond." After saying that, he walked out of my sight.

I stood transfixed to the spot. Not disappointed but rather displeased with the kind of person the moon goddess paired me with.

'I wish you would have paired me with someone better.' I thought in my head. Examining how pompous and how toxic this one was.

Just then, Chloe rushed up to meet me. "What are you doing standing?" She asked.

"I just got rejected by Alpha Darwin. I never wished to be his mate anyway." I explained to her.

That took Chloe by surprise. "Alpha Darwin remains the richest, and not only that, he is down to earth. You can't tell me you don't feel a thing for him. And he is way better than your ex-boyfriend." She spoke the truth, and it was bitter to my ear.

"Never speak of Alpha Darwin again. I have had enough, and for this festival, I am done." I took a ride and went home displeased.

The next day.

I put on my clothing for work, and my phone started ringing. I wondered who was calling that morning, and I was prompted to check my phone.

'It's my boss, Alpha Darwin.' I picked up.

"Hello, good morning, sir." I said with a calming voice.

"Hello, Miss Veronica. I want you to meet me at Roadsaw restaurants. We have something very urgent to talk about."

"Okay, sir." After my reply, he ended the call at once.

I stepped out of my room and booked a ride to meet up with Darwin.

It took about twelve minutes before I got to the restaurant. I stepped down from the car and walked in to meet him.

"You are looking elegant." Darwin commented with a half-smile.

"Thank you, sir." I took my seat before him.

Just while we were discussing, I saw Davis and his secretary walk into the restaurant. They were holding hands and had this bright smile on their.

I lost my concentration in the discussion I was having with my boss.

"What are you staring at?" He said, looking in the direction my face went.

"I am sorry. It's nothing, sir. I am all ears." I expressed with a calm smile.

Darwin continues with what we were discussing, and he realises my attention was divided.

"Who is he?" He asked frankly.

"He is my ex." Answering him sharply, Davis spotted me.

He took his secretary by the hand and came to meet me at my table. Staring at Darwin and me

"No, this is not good." I mumbled silently.
