Chapter 3 Chapter 3

Mabel glanced up and spotted an elderly woman with silver hair sprawled on the ground, trembling uncontrollably. Concern washed over her as she noticed the woman's face turning a shade of blue, her feeble hand reaching out as if desperately seeking help. The woman's attire, though simple, hinted at her wealth and suggested that she wasn't there to deceive anyone.

Realizing that the old woman required immediate medical attention, Mabel swiftly exited her car. Passersby gathered around, some even taking out their phones to capture the scene, yet none dared to aid the woman. Ignoring the skeptical murmurs, Mabel plunged into the crowd and crouched down beside the old lady.

A voice in the crowd tried to dissuade her. "Miss, it's clear that she's trying to deceive you. You'd better not get involved in someone else's business."

"That's right, nowadays you can't trust anyone. Be careful, or she might try to extort you!"

Mabel paid no mind to their warnings. Her attention was drawn to a white pill bottle lying near the woman's hand, most likely containing the medication she needed. Picking up the bottle, she inspected its contents, poured out a pill, and gently assisted the unconscious woman in swallowing it.

After a few minutes of taking the medicine, the color returned to the old lady's face, and her body ceased its trembling. Soon after, an ambulance arrived. Mabel entrusted the old lady to the nurse's care.

As Madam Griffiths was wheeled onto the ambulance, she briefly regained consciousness, her dazed eyes locking onto Mabel. Feebly, she lifted her hand, attempting to call out to Mabel, but eventually succumbed to unconsciousness once more.

...

The car arrived at the Griffiths family's private residence, nestled within the prestigious Orchid Villa. The land here held great value, and the opulence of the villa was undeniable. Every plant in the garden seemed worth a small fortune.

Guided by the housekeeper, Mabel entered the villa. Its Crystal Country-style architecture showcased a grandeur that made her feel minuscule within the expansive living room. It was as if she had been transformed into an ant.

The Griffiths family held immense power and influence in the city. Aware of this, Mabel remained obedient and composed, not daring to challenge their authority. The butler led her to a guest room, instructing her to rest and informing her that he would be at her service.

"Thank you," Mabel replied, settling into the room. The imported Italian leather sofa proved to be as comfortable as it appeared. She lazily sunk into it, resting her chin on her hand in a bold yet alluring pose.

Suddenly, a peculiar sound emanated from behind her. Mabel's senses heightened, and she swiftly sat up, alert and wary. Without warning, a snow-white wolf burst forth from behind the curtains, lunging towards her.

Mabel narrowed her eyes, deftly evading the wolf's attack. The creature grew agitated, its sharp claws scraping against the floor as it bared its fangs, growling menacingly.

With disdain, Mabel regarded the wolf. It seemed to have forgotten that it was no longer in the wild and now resided within the confines of the villa as a pet.

Her contemptuous gaze only further infuriated the wolf, prompting it to roar, its claws extended as it lunged at Mabel once more, aiming for her throat.

Mabel stood her ground, ready to face the wolf head-on. Yet, in the split second before its attack, she swiftly raised her hand, a silver needle glinting between her fingertips. She skillfully jabbed it into a spot behind the wolf's ear.

A howl filled the air as the wolf stiffened, whimpered, and collapsed onto the ground. Mabel narrowed her eyes, her hand poised to administer another incapacitating blow.

However, a clear and commanding voice suddenly resonated from the doorway. "Stop!"

The voice possessed an attractive and seductive quality, yet its cold tone carried a sense of intimidation. Mabel's gaze shifted unhappily, meeting the cold and profound eyes of a strikingly handsome man.

Undoubtedly, he was a man of great physical stature. Clad in a white shirt that accentuated his lean frame, he exuded an undeniable charm. His facial features were flawlessly sculpted, akin to a masterpiece crafted by a divine artist. Unfortunately, his pallid complexion hinted at prolonged illness.

Even so, the man's commanding and icy gaze emitted an air of authority that demanded attention. It was a gaze that only those who had held power for a considerable time possessed.

Standing at the door, he looked down at Mabel, causing her to bristle with dissatisfaction. She couldn't help but wonder how long he had been observing her. If her counterattack had failed, he would have witnessed her being mauled by the wolf.

Mabel rose to her feet, her eyes narrowing as she met the man's cold, penetrating gaze. "Jayden Griffiths?"

She pondered whether he was the infamous second son of the Griffiths family, Jayden Griffiths, rumored to be disfigured, disabled, and nearing death. Clearly, people had misconceptions about the appearance of disabled individuals.

The man before her stood tall and robust, possessing a godlike handsomeness. There was nothing about him that could be considered ugly.

Jayden's sharp gaze swept over Mabel before settling on the wolf behind her. "Come here."

The wolf, resembling an injured child, obediently rose and trotted over to Jayden. It nuzzled its head against his thigh, seeking comfort.

When Jayden glanced indifferently at the wolf, it no longer dared to act spoiled. Whimpering, it left the room, casting a reluctant glance back at Mabel.

Its eyes seemed to convey a message: "Woman, just wait. I'll bring you down sooner or later!"

Mabel couldn't help but chuckle. The animal was rather vengeful, but she was more than willing to play along.

Jayden silently assessed Mabel, his clear eyes narrowing slightly. "You're not Camila Baldwin."

Mabel was taken aback. She hadn't expected Jayden to discern her true identity at a glance. Nevertheless, she paid no heed to it.

"Yes, I'm Mabel Baldwin, Camila's sister."

Mabel possessed a petite frame and delicate features, radiating beauty. However, her stubbornness, arrogance, and cruelty were undeniable.

Jayden pondered Mabel's fight against the wolf, her proud and icy gaze. Something flickered within his eyes as he contemplated her.

"Did the Baldwin family send you here in Camila's stead? They certainly possess audacity."

Although Jayden's tone remained detached and emotionless, Mabel couldn't help but shiver. It felt as though an invisible hand gripped her throat, making it difficult to breathe.

Frowning, she grew increasingly uncomfortable. It had been a while since she encountered such a formidable man, and she wasn't accustomed to it.

However, one thing was certain: Jayden was responsible for orchestrating the wolf's attack on her.

In that moment, Mabel couldn't fathom Jayden's motives for harming her. Yet, his gaze clearly revealed his dissatisfaction with her.

As Mabel pondered her next move, Jayden shifted and began walking towards her.
