Chapter 2 Chapter 2

Sam's hand froze in the air, his eyes wide with shock. He couldn't believe how much Mabel had changed in just five years. The once obedient and timid girl now stood before him, daring to threaten him. Her fierceness and arrogance were completely unfamiliar to him.

Sam couldn't help but wonder what had happened to Mabel during those five years. His anger flared, and he angrily put his hand down. "Are you seriously threatening me?" he asked, his voice filled with frustration.

Mabel's words dripped with arrogance and presumption. "That's right," she replied, her tone unyielding.

Sam's patience wore thin. He couldn't bear it any longer. "You ungrateful child! I'll teach you a lesson you won't forget!" he shouted, his anger consuming him.

"Dad!" Camila rushed over, grabbing Sam's hand. "Please, don't hurt her!"

Camila knew that if they pushed Mabel too far, there would be no one left to stand up for her in the marriage. She didn't want to be stuck with a disabled man who didn't have many years left to live.

Sam's heart softened as he looked into Camila's pleading eyes. He slowly lowered his hand, suppressing his anger. He furrowed his brow and glared at Mabel. "What is it that you want, you ungrateful daughter?"

Mabel raised an eyebrow, a hint of arrogance in her gaze. "I told you already. I want my 10% share back."

Mabel's cold and intimidating tone, along with her newfound confidence, left the three of them stunned. They couldn't comprehend how Mabel had become such a different person after her time in the psychiatric hospital. Her presence commanded attention, and they couldn't help but wonder where her newfound confidence came from.

Lost in thought, the three of them exchanged uneasy glances. Camila, filled with hatred, bit her lip but pretended to be heartbroken. "Mabel, I'm sorry. It's all my fault..."

Victoria's heart ached, and she quickly interjected. "Camila, it's not your fault."

Victoria glared at Mabel with disgust. "Four years ago, when the company went public, I transferred all your shares to Camila. You owe her that!"

She continued, her eyes filled with disappointment. "And to think that you would come out of the hospital and immediately try to take what belongs to your sister. How shameless can you be?"

Victoria regretted giving birth to such an ungrateful daughter.

Mabel's voice remained cold and firm. "You never asked for my permission before taking my things. That's stealing."

Victoria's face turned livid. "Stealing? Camila is your sister!"

Mabel shot back with a cold retort. "Then why did you ask me to marry in her place?"

Victoria was left speechless, her chest heaving with anger.

Mabel's voice grew even colder. "I'll ask you one last time. Will you return my shares or not?"

Sam and Victoria were stunned. Even they were taken aback by Mabel's chilling demeanor. They couldn't believe that the woman standing before them was the same Mabel from five years ago.

Camila, her voice trembling, stammered, "Mabel, how can you speak to our parents like that? We're family, and what's mine is yours, right?"

Mabel sneered. "You're right. How about you give me all your shares then? After all, my shares are yours too."

Camila was taken aback. The Mabel she once knew always acquiesced to her every whim. But now, she had become sharp-tongued.

"Mabel, I-" Camila began, but was cut off by a sharp slap across her face.

Camila covered her cheek, disbelief in her eyes. "Why did you hit me? What have I done wrong?"

Mabel swept her fingers over her shoulder and spoke with a lazy tone. "Shut up. Your fakeness is palpable."

Camila gritted her teeth, wishing she could tear Mabel apart. But she lowered her head and pretended to cry, feigning grievance.

Victoria's heart broke as she saw Camila's tears. She held her daughter in her arms, offering comfort and solace.

Sam's face darkened. He knew he had to give up the shares. He would never allow Camila to marry a disabled man with a limited lifespan.

Mabel spoke nonchalantly, "Are you sure you want to delay this? The Griffiths family will find out if you keep stalling."

Knowing that Camila's lifelong happiness was at stake, Sam and Victoria had no choice but to relent. "If we transfer the shares to you, will you take Camila's place in marriage?"

Mabel raised an eyebrow. "Of course. Unlike some people, I always keep my word."

Suppressing his anger, Sam took out his phone and began the process of transferring the shares. Soon, Mabel received a message confirming the transfer would be completed within 3 to 5 business days.

She smiled, a hint of satisfaction in her eyes. "Isn't it better to do this sooner?"

With that, she glanced coldly at Camila. "Camila, you still owe me something."

Camila, fear evident in her gaze, stuttered, "Wh-What do you mean?"

"You plotted against me five years ago, causing me to lose my innocence," Mabel's voice was cold and emotionless. "Do you really think I don't know?"

Camila nervously swallowed, her face turning pale. She believed that as long as there was no evidence, Mabel couldn't do anything to her. And soon, she would have her revenge for that slap.

Camila cried, her eyes filled with tears. "Mabel, you slandered me five years ago. Why won't you let me go after all these years?"

Mabel stared at her coldly. "I'll give you one last chance. Think about it yourself."

With that, she turned her gaze to Sam and Victoria, took a long look, and left without a second glance.

As Mabel exited the Baldwin family, she stepped into the Griffiths family's car, designated as the wedding transportation. However, it was a simple, unadorned gray vehicle, a clear sign of the Griffiths family's lack of investment in the wedding.

Sitting in the cold car, Mabel felt no happiness. Her heart was frozen, devoid of any warmth. She regretted not giving up on her family five years ago when they had cruelly cast her aside after the stillbirth.

Thoughts of the poor child filled her mind, and she couldn't help but feel pity.

Suddenly, her phone rang, interrupting her thoughts. Mabel answered, her voice cold. "What is it?"

"My God! You're finally making your move!" an excited voice exclaimed on the other end. "This calls for a celebration!"

Mabel leaned back lazily and looked out the window. "If there's nothing important, I'll hang up."

"Wait!" the person on the phone pleaded. "I have something important to tell you. Everything is going according to plan. The crops grown with the soil from the psychiatric hospital are of excellent quality. We've already sent out the orders, and our efforts over the years have paid off."

Mabel raised an eyebrow, as if everything was under her control. "I have something in a bank safe. Help me retrieve it."

Five years ago, the man from that fateful night had given her a jade ring as a token. Mabel had bided her time, concealing her strengths. Finally, she had the power to protect herself, and it was time to seek revenge against that man.

Ending the call, Mabel closed her eyes. Suddenly, the car came to a halt, causing her body to lurch forward. The driver looked ahead, his face pale. "There's an old lady lying on the road. Is she trying to extort us?"
