Chapter 5 Hitting Rock Bottom

Mrs. Thompson looked at Sam with a glare. Her eyes were burning. She was wearing a cream-colored suit paired with a black turtleneck shirt. A patterned scarf from Prada completed her look.

Beside her, Aurelie Thompson looked at Sam with a lazy gaze. Not inferior to her mother's style, Aurelie is currently wearing a tight black dress. Her blonde hair was wavy and very pretty. Aurelie was a model. Although not yet famous, Aurelie always tried to look beautiful at all times.

"I don't understand what you mean," Sam said, confused.

Mrs. Thompson snorted. Her eyes watched Sam from toe to head. "You can't even take care of yourself. You look terrible now."

Of course, Sam looked miserable. Sam forgot to eat, cried for days, and even tried desperately to fight his fresh wounds.

Mrs. Thompson chuckled. "That advertisement you made turned out to be plagiarized, didn't it?"

"Advertisement?" Sam said, confused. "But, I haven't worked in five years."

Mrs. Thompson sighed. "You can't hide a carcass forever, Summer! I let Keifer choose you because you could support him in his work. But, it all turned out to be plagiarism?"

Sam blinked his eyes. This is too much. Can't Sam just rest for a while? But Aurelie took over and showed him articles on social media. The media was reporting on Keifer's company. Aurelie even showed the reporters who were swarming the entrance of his company.

"When did this news happen?" Sam asked, confused.

"Last night," Mrs. Thompson replied impatiently. She took out her cell phone and showed it to Sam. "Explain this news, too!"

This time, Mrs. Thompson showed her phone. The article about Sam and Keifer getting divorced also spread. Sam read the news with shaking hands. In addition to the news of their divorce, a picture of Keifer and Dyanna walking came to Sam's attention. Keifer dropped Dyanna off but had no intention of seeing her at all.

Sam slumped down again. His eyes stared at the empty air. Slowly, his vision blurred. Sam felt claustrophobic again. He clutched his chest, trying to reduce the pain. Unfortunately, the pain intensified. Sam looked down, and his cries fell to the floor.

Mrs. Thompson sighed. "Stop crying. Solve the company's problems as soon as possible! It's so sad! I can understand why Keifer would be interested in other girls if he sees you like this."

"Mom!" Aurelie whined while showing her watch. "I have an audition."

Mrs. Thompson chuckled. She looked down and pulled Sam's chin. Her eyes watched Sam's swollen eyes. Sam's tears did not deter her at all. Instead, she gripped Sam's cheeks harder.

"I did nothing when Keifer was dating an orphan," Mrs. Thompson said. "Make yourself useful! Solve the problem and then divorce Keifer. You don't belong in the Thompson family."

That last sentence struck Sam in the heart. Sam just fell silent. Seeing Sam's pitiful expression, Aurelie chuckled. "I can't stand this sight anymore! Let's go!"

Mrs. Thompson let Sam go roughly. She stood up and wiped her hands with a tissue. Her eyes looked at Sam in disgust. "Mark my words, you'd better disappear."

Mrs. Thompson and Aurelie got up and walked towards the door. At the sound of the door opening, Sam stared at his in-laws with a wide-eyed stare. "That company..."

Mrs. Thompson turned her head. "Yeah, don't make a mess of things! Just solve the problem."

Sam struggled to his feet. He looked at his mother-in-law and sister, who were staring at him in annoyance. "Your clothes, your jewelry, and your bag. Keifer bought them, right?"

"Summer! You're too much!" Aurelie shouted.

Summer laughed sarcastically. "Me? Outrageous?"

"He's gone mad!" Aurelie said as she stomped her foot.

"Crazy?" Sam clucked. "Look! You're just afraid Keifer can't give you anything anymore, right?"

Mrs. Thompson sighed. "Whatever!"

"One more thing, before you go," Sam said. "I, the orphan, am the biggest shareholder in the company."

Mrs. Thompson was silent. Keifer had never told her anything. All this time, Mrs. Thompson only knew that Keifer was the owner. Keifer also always granted the requests of his mother and sister. Mrs. Thompson thought that Sam had only been helping Keifer.

"I destroyed the company?" Sam asked sarcastically. "The company couldn't even get off the ground without my help. If you think I destroyed the company? Get ready to lose your donors."

Mrs. Thompson stared at Sam with a fiery gaze. She approached Sam and pulled his hair roughly. "You're testing my patience! I'll tell Keifer everything! Just watch! Keifer's going to divorce you, bitch! If he doesn't divorce you, I swear I'll make your life a living hell."

Sam cried out in pain. His body was limp, and Mrs. Thompson's strength overwhelmed him. Not only that, Mrs. Thompson even pushed Sam's body until he fell. Sam's back hit the floor. However, Mrs. Thompson did not stop. She pulled Sam's hair again.

"Get out of here! Don't hang around Keifer's side anymore!" Mrs. Thompson said.

Mrs. Thompson sighed. She walked towards the kitchen to get a drink. She didn't even care about Sam, who was in pain on the floor. At that very moment, she saw a folder on the kitchen table. As soon as she opened it, Mrs. Thompson smiled slyly. She picked up a pen and walked towards Sam.

"I'll help you sort out this mess!" Mrs. Thompson said. "Sign this! Quickly!"

Sam froze, looking at the divorce papers. Keifer. Does Sam have to keep everything? But Keifer didn't even intend to see him again. Impatient with Sam, Mrs. Thompson sat down and handed him the pen rudely.

"If you don't sign this, I'll torture you even more! You've tested my patience, bitch!" Mrs. Thompson said as she pulled Sam's hair harder.

Sam cried out in pain. Her hair was pulled repeatedly. Sam repeatedly asked to be released, but Mrs. Thompson continued to threaten. Annoyed, Sam gathered her remaining strength and pushed Mrs. Thompson. Mrs. Thompson, who was squatting and wearing heels, lost her balance. She fell backwards.

"Summer!" Mrs. Thompson shouted.

Seeing her mother being treated this way, Aurelie approached them and slapped Summer hard. "You're completely crazy! I'll make sure you know everything!"

Aurelie then helped her mother up. Sam paused, then laughed in a big voice. His life was pathetic. All this time, he had stood up for Keifer. He was patient with Keifer's family. This seemed to be the end of his struggle.

"You guys are amazing!" Sam said bitterly. "I can't believe I lasted this long!"

Afterward, Summer reached for the pen and divorce papers. Her cheeks were still hot, and even her ears were still ringing. Twice. Sam was slapped twice. Sam sighed. His hands were shaking, and it took more effort for him to calm his hands. Sam sighed. Then, he signed the divorce papers quickly. Finally, it was over! It turned out that it took a short time to destroy something that was built for so long. It's sad, but it's the truth.

Afterwards, Sam threw the divorce papers at Mrs. Thompson. "Give them to your son! You and your son are truly a bastard!"

After saying that, Sam staggered out of the apartment and grabbed his sandals. Sam wanted to leave. But, where should he go? Sam had no destination.
