Chapter 2 Traitors

"You're overreacting," Keifer said as he pulled his hand away.

Keifer ignored Sam. Damn! Keifer did take off his ring last night because his mistress was sulking. She asked Keifer to choose her or his wife. If Keifer loved her, he should take off his ring every time they met. How could he forget it? Keifer shrugged off his guilt and started putting on a shirt.

"Too much?" Sam said bitterly.

Tears were flowing freely from Sam's eyes. Sam pulled Keifer's shirt roughly and pointed at the red spot on his shoulder. "Tell me, who made it? What lowly woman seduced you?"

Keifer pulled up his shirt and glared. "Are you out of your mind? Did you just accuse me of having an affair?"

Sam burst into tears. Sam didn't want to believe it either, but everything was clear. The message and the fact that Keifer wasn't wearing his ring were an inevitable fact. So, what's that red spot?

"Do you think I'm stupid?" Sam said softly. "You've changed, Keif! In 2 years, you've changed! You're even ignoring me now. Tell me, is she prettier than me? Is she hotter?"

Keifer threw off his tie and grabbed Sam's shoulder. "Stop making a fuss! Stop accusing me of nonsense, Sam!"

Sam ignored the pain of Keifer's grip. The tears broke out again, and Sam started to sob. "What did I do wrong, Keif? What? I tried to be the perfect wife. I left my job, and I even devoted my life to you."

"Sam! Don't test my patience!" Keifer shouted.

Sam wiped his tears roughly. She looked at Keifer with anger and disappointment. Sam's loyalty now meant nothing. Sam went out in a hurry. She grabbed Keifer's cell phone and brought it back to the walk-in closet. As soon as she found Keifer buttoning his shirt, she threw Keifer's cell phone on his back.

Keifer stopped what he was doing. "Summer Miller! You're testing me!"

Keifer walked towards Sam and grabbed his cheek. "You pissed me off this time, Summer!"

Sam returned Keifer's gaze. "You read the message yourself! I'm accusing myself? Are you going to play dumb now? Who's the D.A? Where's your ring, dammit!"

Keifer glared. His grip was getting stronger. "You checked my cell phone?"

"I'm your wife! Who is that woman?"

Keifer didn't answer. He pushed Sam roughly and gave him a cold stare. "Don't act crazy! I'm leaving now."

Keifer picked up his tie and walked away from Sam. He couldn't get ready like this. Damn it! Besides, why did the message come at such a bad time? Keifer picked up his briefcase. At that moment, he realized Sam had already cleaned up the things he had thrown last night. As soon as he picked up his bag, Keifer saw Sam's paella. Next to the dining table, there were folding chairs and a camping lantern.

"What's Sam doing?"

Keifer walked towards the kitchen table. At that moment, he saw the tent outside. Oh, Sam! Keifer realized what she was doing last night. Then, at the same time, the doorbell rang. Keifer adjusted his hair. Who was visiting at this time of the morning? As Keifer opened the door, the man fell silent.

"Dyanne?" Keifer said.

Dyanne stood in the doorway with a big smile. She was wearing a knee-length black dress that she paired with a blazer. Her blonde hair was long and wavy with curls at the ends.

Dyanne glanced behind Keifer's back. Once she felt safe, she pulled the man's hand away. "You forgot this last night."

Keifer glanced at the ring. Oh, Dyanne! This is why Sam was angry. "You sent a message earlier?"

"Why?"

"There's no time! Let's get out of here!" Keifer said.

Unfortunately, at that very moment, Sam appeared. Her red eyes were pitiful. Her hair was a mess, while traces of his tears were visible. Dyanne was surprised to see Sam.

"Sam? What happened to you?" Dyanne asked and then came in and hugged Sam.

Dyanne checked Sam's condition. "What happened to you? Someone hurt you?"

"D!" Called Keifer warningly.

Sam didn't answer. She glanced at Dyanne and Keifer alternately with a blank look. "Dyanne Anders"

"Yeah?"

Sam smiled bitterly. Of all people, why her best friend?! Sam trusted Dyanne. Was Keifer the reason Dyanne had been visiting him all this time?

"How could you, D!" Sam shouted while pulling Dyanne's hair. "You! You stabbed me in the back!"

"Ahh!" Dyanne shouted. "Sam, let go!"

"Let go? You should let go of Keifer!"

Seeing that Sam was pulling Dyanne's hair with increasing force, Keifer broke them up. Unfortunately, Keifer's strength was too strong. Sam was pushed back. Her back hit the wall, and she fell to the floor. Sam looked at Keifer in disbelief. Keifer even dared to push him this time.

"Keifer?" Sam said in disbelief. "You're defending him?"

Keifer pulled Dyanne to her feet and stood in front of her. Dyanne herself took cover behind Keifer, frightened and tugging slightly on the man's shirt. Keifer's eyes watched Sam, who looked pitiful.

"You look pathetic," Keifer said coldly. "You should never show this side of you, Sam! You're making me even less interested in you."

"Not interested?"

Keifer looked at Sam. His hand was still protecting Dyanne behind him. "I didn't want to hurt you, so I hid it. Sam, I don't like you anymore!"

"Keifer! How could you!" Sam shouted as he stood up.

Sam walked roughly and punched Keifer in the chest in frustration. Keifer's words just now were piercing. Sam could feel his body starting to cool down while his heart seemed to be bombarded by thousands of needles. Sam felt claustrophobic. This wasn't fair! Everything is unfair! His eyes noticed Dyanne, who stood looking at them expressionlessly. How could Sam consider her his best friend?

"You're disgusting, Keifer!" Sam said bitterly.

Keifer stopped Sam's punch and took her hand. "I think it's time! Let's get a divorce, Sam! I don't love you anymore."

Sam froze. She looked at Keifer in disbelief. Her tears were flowing freely. Divorce? Oh my God! If this is indeed a nightmare, please wake her up now! But it seemed like Keifer couldn't give Sam time.

"Seeing you makes me feel burdened. Just looking at you makes me feel heavy! Besides, there's no point in us being together if I don't love you anymore. You won't get what you expect from me, Sam!"

Sam covered her ears. "Enough! How far do you have to hurt me, Keif?"

Keifer didn't care about Sam. He turned around and helped Dyanne with her clothes. Keifer picked up his shoes.

"My lawyer will take care of everything later! I hope you still have some self-respect left," Keifer said without turning around.

At that very moment, he pulled Dyanne's hand gently. He opened the door and then closed the door roughly. Sam, meanwhile, fell on the floor with an increasingly strong cry. Sam was sobbing. The universe didn't even give him time to digest what was happening right now. Divorced? Is this the end of everything? Images of Keifer's cold face and his piercing words alternately danced in Sam's mind. Oh, God! Why does his destiny have to be like this?
