Chapter 5 Love On The Roll

''Once again, I am very sorry for what you recently passed through''Engineer Godwin said to her.

''It's alright. Atleast, I'm out of the hospital now. The most important thing right now is that I am alive and healthy. Meanwhile, I am also sorry for all what I made you to pass through''Responded, Sophia.

Engineer Godwin was silent at this moment, while keeping his gaze on her. Something strange was currently going on in his mind. He wasn't sure about it, and he didn't think he would ever have the courage to inform Sophia.

It's been three days that Sophia was officially discharged from the hospital. Ever since then, she and the engineer has been moving cool and happy with each other, as they were staring a journey of friendship. Godwin who is a very wealthy billionaire, was admiring her. Especially, when he was informed by her on the matters of her educational attainment. Just like every other man who would hear her, he was very shocked to see how ambitious Sophia is.

''You really want to excel in life?''Godwin asked her.

''Yes of course. Why do you ask?''She cared to know.

''Have you ever seen any women in the Philippines, who amount to great power and authority?''He asked her.

''No, I haven't''She replied, still trying to know he asked her such a question, and where exactly he intends to be heading to with it. She faced him, looking at his face, as they walked outside the 'Mr.Biggs' eatery center.

''So, why are you stressing yourself trying to reach where you know that you will never reach?''GFodwin asked.

She was quiet. She knew before now that their discussion would eventually get to this point.

''It's my choice. I choose to be different. I wish to make a change in the community. Not just the community. But also, in the country''She announced.

Godwin stirred at her for a second, and bursted out of laughter.

''Where have you seen a woman working before?''He asked her the second question.

She smiled.

''In Europe and some parts of America, women work''She responded.

''That is Europe for you, and that is also America for you. However, you are in the Philippines. Our culture here is very strong, and there is absolutely nothing you can do,''Godwin informed her.

''So inother words, what are you insinuating ?''She asked him.

''You are not supposed to work, and you are not even supposed to study. I don't know why you were ever allowed to start doing such kinds of occupations''Godwin said.

''In essence, you are trying to say what?''Sophia asked. She was now more interested in this discussion.

''You are a woman.Your obligation is only to your future husband and your future children. Your typical calling as a woman is in the kitchen. That's the truth, and nothing more''Godwin advocated.

Sophia laughed.

''Can we please end the discussion here?. Maybe some other time, we shall talk about it,''She suggested. He turned to look at her, but didn't say anything.

Thee both of them entered into the jeep,and was driven by his security men, who finally dropped Sophia at her destination.

Hours later during the night time, Sophia was once again, engrossed with lots of thoughts. Thoughts of the company where she was working as a cleaner, and thoughts of the discussion, which she shared today with Godwin. Before now, she had already received a message from the company where she was working. They sent her the few wages of what she worked for before having the accident, and finally informed her, through a letter, that her presence in the company was no longer needed again. It was in fact specified in the letter, that she should never think of pleading or begging to return back to the company, as no one would give her a listening ear. It was a sought of punishment from them, by her not taking permission before excluding herself for days in the company. Little did they know that she survived an accident under a narrow escape. Sophia was informed that the new general manager of the company, won't tolerate her attitude and in fact, might get her arrested if she ever reports in the company again.

While she was thinking about this, she also started thinking about her previous meeting with Godwin the engineer. She couldn't believe that someone as educated and enlightened as Godwin, was also advocating against women's enlightenment in society.

Engineer Godwin the multi billionaire, is a well respected businessman in the country of Philippines. Since he is an economic leader, he is one of those who makes decisions in the country and continent. It really disgusts her to know about the essence of his mind. Although, she never blamed him for it, since such beliefs, was now a generally acceptable system and culture in their country. While she was still in this realm of thought, a noise disturbed her attention. When she figured it out, she realized that it was her phone that was ringing. She took it, and answered the caller.

''Kindly come out, my dear. I am outside waiting for you''She heard. It was no other person but Godwin. When she went outside the compound to meet him, he gave her a flower, along with a golden necklace and wrist band. She was skeptical.

''Why this gift?''She asked him.

''What do you think, first of all?''He asked her also.

''I don't really know,''She responded.

Godwin came very close to her, held her two hands, and kissed her on the cheeks.

''I am beginning to fall in love with you''He whispered into her ears.

She stirred at him, and was confused.

''Can you throw more light about this for me?''She asked.

Godwin on the other hand, wasn't surprised. He knows that any lady who he meets and demands, would eventually fall for him. But for this particular Sophia, his instinct already told him that it would be difficult for her to just open up her heart to him, and that was why he wasn't surprised with her response.

''For this little time that the both of us have been moving around together, I realized that something in you keeps attracting me. In summary, I love you, and I want us to be together''Godwin the billionaire said to her. She just looks at him, blinking his eyes.
