Chapter 4 A Call To Chances

The university where Sophia was studying, was one of the best learning center in the whole of Philippines, which was popularly known as the Macdonald learning center. It was established by the patriarchs who fought for the country's independence and ever since it was established, it has been helping in moulding people's mindsets. Little did the school officials knew that the learning center would in one day, be a historic center that would acknowledge a great personality who would be highly famous in the continent. Sophia.

However, many people who saw Sophia studying here for her masters, were astonished. None of them would ever believe that a woman would take education very seriously like this. This is because the belief in women not working was very strong. They were not only shocked to see a woman working. But I was also shocked to see a woman studying. It sprung laughter and mockery from the elites of that school community, who believed that even with Sophia's educational prowess, she wouldn't still amount to anything in life. But Sophia on the other hand, wouldn't stoop to such culture. She believed that she would make a difference.

Meanwhile, it's been more than three weeks since she was given the second book writing contract by her general manager, Mr.Jonathan. She was done with it, writing the particular type of story which he wanted from her. She has also been paid for it.

Ofcourse, she wouldn't stop helping her parents and siblings, even with the money that she has been realizing from her story writing, and while working as a cleaner.

''I shall get back to you soon, one of these days. Sophia. But meanwhile, I would be embarking on a very important journey. Once I am back, I will definitely keep in touch with you''Sophia remembered the last words of Mr.Jonathan to her, the last time that she was in his office talking with him. Mr.Jonathan has made it clear to her that he would be travelling to Europe for a certain business deal. She knew that if he was successful with this particular deal, it would also be well with her. Although, she doesn't know the kind of business deal that he was venturing into, as he didn't throw more light about it to her. However, she was honest with the fact that Mr.Jonathan would in one day, offer her another writing contract.

Meanwhile, she was trekking that night, while returning from work, thinking. Her mind was very far away from the present reality that was on ground. This is because she was thinking of being successful. While she was still on the road walking, she heard a terribly loud noise from behind her, and that was all.

The next time she opened her eyes, she saw herself in the hospital,lying down on a bed. Her whole body was paining her, making her feel very weak.

''Where am I?''She asked, speaking to the air.

''What happened to me?''She asked again, adding.

She felt a soft hand touching her calmly on her neck. She wished to turn her head, trying to see the person that was touching her. But unfortunately for her, she was unable to turn her neck, due to the great amount of pain that she was feeling.

''Just relax yourself, my dear. You would be fine. The doctor said you will be fine''She heard a man's voice whispering gently into her ears.

''Who the hell are you, if I may ask, and how did I come into this place?''Sophia asked.

At this point, she started feeling the movement of the one who was talking with her. The man finally came close, standing beside her, and making himself known to her.

The moment her eyes got in contact with this man, her mind and senses started to rotate in line and in thoughts. His face looked very familiar. She was very sure of that.

The man kept standing in her view, with hope that she might recognize him.

''Who the hell are you, young man, and how did I find myself in this place?''Sophia asked in pain.

''I am very sorry for what happened to you. I would take good care of your welfare for the meantime, and I promise to pay you for every damage that I caused you''The young man said in a politeful manner.

''Meanwhile, I guess you should know me?. But if you have never heard anything about me, it's fine. My name is Engineer Godwin''He informed me.

Sophia looked at him, blinking her eyes. What on Earth could she be doing with this man?.A prominent wealthy man like him?'' She thought to herself.

''I have heard about you before. Just go straight to the point and talk''She demanded.

''Well, I was driving in my jeep last night, when I mistakenly hitted you. It seems that your mind was far from thoughts. I even blew countless numbers of horns, trying to alert you that I was approaching your side. The worst of the matter was that you were walking at the center of federal road. However, I will never put the blames on you, even though you were at fault. I know that we are currently in a trying time in this country. But relax, you will be fine. I promise you''Engineer Godwin highlighted.

''Are you saying that I was hitted by your car, and I am currently in the hospital''?Sophia asked in pain.

Engineer Godwin nodded his head.

Just then, she began to see the appearances of the doctor and other medical personnels who were in charge of her, coming. The doctor in particular, touched her head, her chest, and finally looked into the monitor, to see the analysis of her current medical condition.

''Just be calm and relax. Your situation is just a minor case. I believe that in a few days from now, you will be discharged. Meanwhile, you would be fine. That I am very sure of''Informed, the doctor.

Sophia on the other hand without wasting much time, trying to inculcate what the doctor was saying to her, immediately asked:

''Where are my parents?. Are they aware that I am here?''She asked.

''Yes, we are here, my child''She heard her mothers voice from behind her.

Streams of tears immediately ran down her cheeks, upon hearing her mother's voice.
