Chapter 3 Thank you my friend

"Someone paid already!" Hayden exclaimed in shock, she stared sheepishly at the doctor like a lost puppy.

"Yes madam, the man that brought you in last night already cleared all your bills."

"And who is this person?" Hayden eagerly inquired stretching her neck forward.

"He insisted on staying anonymous, please go rest now, that will make our work here easier".With that the doctor left to attend to other patients and Hayden turned back to her room.

"Could he be mocking me?"she thought

"What does he mean by "that would make their work easier."

She had sneaked into the hospital earlier to get her bag and get out but her plans were disrupted ,she was caught as she was about entering the room.what had she expected before, nothing had been going right for her lately. The door swung open and a tall slender girl walked in, Hayden's face lit up upon realizing who is it was, but the girl greeted her with a light punch on her shoulder.

"Ouch, nice seeing you too Harper." Hayden fired sarcastically.

Harper just glared at her before she finally sat down.

"Do you know how worried I was?" She screamed ruffling Hayden's hair.

"This is no way to treat a patient." Hayden snapped twisting her face.

Harper burst out laughing as she heard her,"you? Patient my foot, like you could ever get hurt or anything".she gushed

But Hayden fell silent upon hearing her friend, images of what happened the previous night flashed through her mind,a gut wrenching pain enveloped her as she remembered their kissing and the intimacy, she wasn't made of steel or anything,so it's only natural she feels the pain, of course she could also get hurt like every other person, her expression turned sour but she hastily composed herself so she would not to worry Harper, but her sudden reaction didn't escape Harper's attention.

"What's wrong?" Harper asked with a tinge of concern lacing her voice.

"Nothing,I am just worried about my granny, she doesn't even know I am here." Hayden replied trying to conceal her feelings.

"Don't worry about Grandma, she called last night to ask about you but I told her you were with me and would be sleeping at my place,i instantly knew something was up so I frantically called your number since then but to no avail not until this evening a staff in this hospital pick the call to let me know you were in the hospital.Do you know how worried I was." She added.

"Thanks Harper,I am sorry for making you worried like that."

Harper stared at her suspiciously, she could tell there was more to the story Hayden wasn't telling her.

"So how did you get here? "She queried

"Oh this?,I got into a minor accident last night, but I am fine now,I will be discharged tomorrow."Hayden answered hoping she would just stop asking questions, but Harper wasn't the type to give in easily.

"Hmmm, but weren't you going to visit Jake last night, you even called to tell me when you got to his house yesternight." Harper pressed, pouting her lips sideways, she gazed at Hayden in a way that clearly says I am not buying your story.she threw another question at her without leaving no room for her to answer the first.

"And why isn't he here with you?"

Hayden didn't reply, she didn't know what to say to that, she only stared downward fidgeting with her fingers.

"Girl I am talking to you." Hayden snapped when she didn't get a response but still no reply,Hayden's phone buzzed at that moment and a text message from Jake appeared on the screen.

"Let's break up"

Harper's face dropped as she read the message.

"Could this be the reason you look so deflated."she growled with a rising anger she shoved the phone in Hayden's face her words dripped with exasperation but the fire was fully kindled by Hayden's unfazed reaction.

"Someone has to knock some sense into that jerk's skull" she snapped as she stood up, she cracked her knuckles and stretched her body in preparation for battle.

"Let it go Harper,he isn't worth it."Hayden managed to say weakly.

"What do you mean by "let it go"?,he can't go scot-free."Harper retorted as she continued her stretching. But Hayden grabbed her hand and she whispered, her voice barely audible "I saw him kissing a girl last night,he has moved on,so stop it already".Her voice was laced with sadness.

"And I don't want to talk about it,so please swipe that sympathetic expression off your face."

Harper was silent for a while before she changed the discussion to lighten the mood Jake is a first class jerk and is not worth crying over.

"Maybe,I might have helped you secure a job at WELMA."she gleefully exclaimed, easing up the tension in the room.

That brightened Hayden's mood, she looked at her friend with excitement written all over her face.

"You're kidding right?"

"No I am not." Harper squealed rolling her index finger in the air.

"Though my dad made me agree to go on blind dates as a criteria but I will survive."she added nodding her head.

"I can't believe how eager that old man is to marry me off just like that." She scoffed.

"But how did he do it." Hayden asked

"He is a friend of their chairman,I simply told him about your interest in the food research and development, it's only took a phone call for him to get the job done,he got you an interview at DELISH on Monday, it's one of WELMA's subsidiaries."

"I know DELISH."Hayden squealed

"i am a lover of their products, especially the recently launched one "Bite it".

Hayden threw her arms around Harper.

"Thank you so much." she gushed, her arms still around her.

"You're choking me."harper screamed

"Oh I am sorry about that girl,I am just so happy."

They both burst out laughing, and Hayden couldn't wait to start her new job,she was going to forget all about Jake and move on with her life like he never existed.
