Chapter 4 The road

Emma's POV....

The road looked familiar, ever since I read that text, I have not been able to pay attention to anything apart from the way my heart tightened against my chest, I was scared, I was terrified that Sam is here with us, after the flight landed I stayed at the airport, and I watched everyone get out of the plane, there was no sight of Sam or anyone related to him which made me more terrified; I knew I had to find a way to figure out if Sam is here in the city.

Presently, Ethan and I, we are on familiar road, nothing has changed since I left this city years ago, it has the same smell; the surrounding was filled with nosy noisy people, the air hit the same as it did, and it reminded me of one person; Killan, it felt like I could feel him near me; I was scared that I will stumble upon him, I was scared that, I may end up getting into something I don't want to.

Ethan and I got a cab, and we drove to the hotel I booked, Ethan was fast sleep on the chair, though he is just three, he made my job easier by not crying or causing a tantrum or asking many questions.

My eyes were all around the streets as the car drove past, I pulled out my phone and I glanced at the message that was sent to me, I saw Sam at the airport in Chicago, but there is no way he could get on that plane, I know he didn't see me, I made sure of that; I never told his friend where I will be going, for all he knows I would be anywhere right now, that bothered me the most, If Sam didn't send this then who did?.

I shook off the thought when the car came to a halt, I have rented an Airbnb house while we were on the plane and New York is one of the places I had gotten a job from; I have no idea if it's too late to accept their offer; I guess I will just have to wait and find out.

I carried Ethan in my arms, and we got into the house; I quickly arranged some of my things, I have a week before I will leave this place, that's enough time to get a job and to get a place to stay, I was hoping I will check in with the company that offered me in a job, I know I exceeded their deadline, but I'm hoping I will get anything; I don't mind sweeping the floors as long as my son would have a roof over his head.

It took about an hour to get everything done, I took a bath and I changed into one of the clothes I can with; I had my files with me and Ethan had just woken up, I made sure to give him a bath too, he will be coming with me; I'm not leaving my son alone in here.

"Ready to leave." I asked him and he nodded.

"I hope you get the job mom." He said, and I smiled, I leaned in to give him a kiss on his cheek before we left, we got a cab and in about thirty minutes we were able to get to the building.

I had Ethan sit on a chair in the lobby while I headed toward the receptionist.

"Do you have an appointment?" She asked in a high-pitched voice.

"I don't- then why are you here wasting my time." she said cutting me off rudely; that was uncalled-for.

"Please I just need to speak to the head of directors, I got an offer some weeks back, and I didn't accept it, I know I am a little too late." I begged.

"I don't care about that, this is not some charity home and if you think I believe your sob story, then you are mistaken, I need you to leave before I called the cops on you." She gritted through her teeth, her tone was harsh.

I felt my chest tightened, I gripped onto my files when I turned around to leave, that was when I stumbled upon someone, he wrapped his around me, stopping me from falling to the ground, a breath escaped my lips when I opened my eyes and I came across a pair of brown eyes.

"Are you okay?" He asked and I nodded. "Do you need help with something?" He asked, unlike the receptionist, he was polite, and he didn't treat me like dirt.

"I wanted to meet the CEO, my name is Emma Amy Smith, I got an offer from the company a while back."

"Miss Smith, the wedding planner." He said, and I smiled, working in the company Sam got me a job in, I was able to do some beautiful work, and one of them was known across the states and I got many offers, yet Sam never wanted me to take them.

"Yes, I know it's too late, but I need a job desperately." I stated.

"Come with me to my office." He said, and I nodded, I glanced at Ethan who was wrapped in his thoughts, "he can come with us." The man said and I smiled.

I looked back at Ethan and this time he glanced at me with a smile on his face, I signaled him, and he headed toward us, the man quickly led us into the metallic box, and he pressed a button, in some few seconds we got to another floor.

"Your son can stay here with the secretary. We have to meet our new CEO, he makes all the decisions." The man said, and I smiled, I headed toward Ethan and I spoke to him before I left with the man.

He knocked on a door, as the door opened, I looked up and my eyes locked with a familiar blue eyes, it was Killan, the man I saw left at the altar.
