Chapter 7 My Bestfriend

ANGELA'S POV

Fiona looked at me, shocked. I could see some traces of guilt on my face, and my heart sank to my chest. I had never for once thought that my best friend could do this to me ! I looked down at the picture that Skye had sent me. It was a picture of Gary and Fiona in a restaurant. They seemed pretty happy together and Fiona was even holding his hand. The person that Gary had been texting was named F, on his phone. F, as in Fiona? The more I thought about it , the more absurd it seemed to me and I desperately wanted it to not be true. "What....what are you talking about?" Fiona asked me, her voice fidgety "Just answer the damn question already! Did you know him before this?" I yelled at her. Fiona stood up just then. "I don't know what has come over you but you need to calm down. Gary is a really good man and suspecting him is not going to do you any good. Even if you want to suspect him, I am your best friend. Are you saying you are going to suspect me too?" Fiona asked. I knew she was trying to guilt trip me, and although I did feel a bit guilty, I refused to back down. I would rather be wrong about this and apologize than find out later that my so-called best friend had lied to me and used me. "That is not the answer to my question, Fiona" I said. "If it wasn't already clear enough, I'll let you know. I didn't know Gary before this. Do you think if I knew him, I would have mentioned it to you? Seriously, you're acting like some crazy jealous woman. I know damn well that I've never seen you like this before!" She said to me. "Then, can you explain what is going on in this picture?" I handed my phone over to Fiona. She took it from me with shaky hands and her mouth dropped open when she saw the pic. Fiona looked up at me with anger in her eyes. "What is the meaning of this, Angela? Don't tell me that you're spying on your husband and I? Don't you think that what you're doing is crazy?" She asked me. I rolled my eyes, "I run a multi billion dollar company. Do you think that I have the time to spy on both of you? If I want to find something, there are other ways for me to find it. So explain what you're doing with my husband in a cafe, explain why you're being so close to him!" I demanded. To be honest, Fiona betraying me would hurt me more than Gary would. Although I would be disappointed, he was a man and I could always find another woman. But Fiona...she was my best friend. I had stuck with her through the toughest times and the thought that she could betray me over a man made me sick. I really hoped that she would have an explanation for this. "Look, Angela, you're just acting crazy right now. I don't have the time for any of this, okay? If you really want to know what Gary and I were doing, I'll tell you. We were planning a surprise for you. There, are you satisfied? I hope you don't tell him so that you can at least pretend to be surprised because Gary put so much effort into this!" Fiona flared up. "What?" My mind went blank as I tried to rearrange my thoughts. I had thought of the worse things but never had it crossed my mind that they would be planning a surprise for me. A surprise for what? My face went red with guilt and embarrassment, "Planning a surprise....why on Earth would you want to surprise me? It isn't even my birthday yet!" "Is your birthday the only important day in your life? You know Angela, maybe you should stop working so much and start focusing on your personal life. Gary told me that you sealed a huge deal at work. He said you've been working hard on it and he wanted to tell you that you've done a good job. He only contacted me because he thought I would know you better and he needed my help!" I could tell that Fiona was mad at me....I had accused her without finding out the truth after all. The thought of the two most important people in my life planning a surprise for me made me feel warm inside And to think that I almost ruined it because of my suspicions. "Fiona.....I am so so sorry....I didn't mean this. I just panicked and thought Gary was cheating on me. You know he's a man and...." Fiona raised her hand, effectively cutting me off. "None of that is an excuse, Angela. Even if you wanted to doubt Gary, I don't see why you should doubt me. Do you really think that I am going to betray you over a man?" Fiona asked me. I shook my head and smiled guiltily at her. "No, I don't," I said. Fiona sighed and walked over to me. Then, she pulled me into a tight hug. "Don't worry about it. I already forgive you. I know that you're going through a tough time right now and that you have a hard time trusting people. I just wish you would know that I would never betray you," she assured me. I nodded my head, completely trusting her words. "I know that now," I said. ...... "What? You are telling me you would believe her words, just like that? Seriously? It doesn't make sense!" Skye was in my office the next day, and she was furious when I told her what Fiona had told me. For some reason, she was convinced Fiona was lying to me. I looked at Skye coldly. "Fiona is my best friend. I am sure I can trust her. She will never betray me!"
