Chapter 4 Four

Contract Marriage with Lucifer

Young Codex

Chapter Four

Jenny lay in the massive bed, staring at the ceiling.

Sleep was impossible.

The silence of the mansion felt suffocating, too different from the small, familiar apartment she had shared with her mother. The bed was too soft, the air too cold, and worst of all-her mind wouldn't shut off.

Leo's voice echoed in her head.

"Because I don't do love."

She squeezed her eyes shut, frustration bubbling in her chest. Why did it bother her? She knew this was a business arrangement, yet something about the finality in his voice unsettled her.

And then there was Julia.

The way she had looked at Leo. The way she had spoken, like she was claiming him, like Jenny was just an inconvenience, something temporary.

Maybe she was.

She sighed and turned on her side, staring at the moonlit window.

What had she gotten herself into?

The Morning After 🌞

A loud knock at the door yanked Jenny's from her restless thoughts.

She groaned, rubbing her eyes before checking the time, it was 6:00 AM.

Who the hell wakes someone up at six in the morning?

Another knock, this time sharper.

"Jesus," she muttered, throwing off the covers and storming to the door.

The moment she pulled it open, she froze.

Leo stood there, arms crossed, his usual cocky smirk in place.

"What the hell do you want?" she snapped.

Leo leaned against the doorframe, completely unfazed. "You're late."

Her brows knitted. "For what?"

His smirk deepened. "Breakfast with my father."

Jenny blinked. "Are you joking?"

Leo tilted his head, amused. "Do I look like I joke?"

She scowled. "You didn't tell me about this."

"Correction, I didn't think you'd sleep in like a lazy brat."

Jenny clenched her fists. "I didn't sleep at all, thanks to you."

Leo grinned. "Dreaming about me already?"

Her glare could have set him on fire. "In your nightmares, Leo."

He chuckled. "Get dressed. You have ten minutes."

Jenny groaned and slammed the door in his face.

She heard his laughter as he walked away.

This was going to be hell.

By the time Jenny rushed downstairs, she was thirty minutes late.

And everyone was already seated.

At the head of the massive dining table sat Richard Smith, Leo's father. He was a sharp-eyed, intimidating man with salt-and-pepper hair and a permanent frown.

Julia was there, of course, looking annoyingly perfect in a white silk blouse.

Leo sat beside her, sipping his coffee like he hadn't just dragged Jenny out of bed for this.

All eyes turned to her the moment she entered.

"Ah, the new bride-to-be finally joins us," Richard remarked, his tone flat.

Jenny forced a smile. "Good morning."

Julia scoffed. "More like good afternoon."

Jenny shot her a sweet, sarcastic smile. "Oh, sorry, did I cut into your time with Leo?"

Julia's eyes flashed.

Leo snorted. "Play nice, ladies."

Jenny sat down and picked up her fork, ready to just survive this meal, when Charles's voice cut through the air.

"I don't trust you," he said simply.

The entire room fell dead silent.

Jenny's grip tightened around her fork. "Excuse me?"

Charles leaned forward. "I know what women like you want. Money. Status." His cold gaze pierced through her. "So tell me, what's your price?"

Jenny stomach twisted.

She didn't even get a chance to respond before Leo spoke, his voice dangerously calm.

"Careful, Dad," he said, setting his coffee down. "You're talking to my fiancée."

Charles scoffed. "Please. We both know this isn't real."

Leo smirked. "Then why does it bother you so much?"

The tension in the room was suffocating.

Jennt met Charles's gaze, her anger boiling over. "For your information, Mr. Smith, I don't give a damn about your money."

Charles's eyes narrowed.

Leo, surprisingly, looked amused.

Julia, however, wasn't.

She leaned in, her voice mocking. "Then what do you want? Love?" She laughed coldly. "With Leo? Please."

Leo arched a brow. "Ouch."

Jenny clenched her fists.

She knew what they were doing. They wanted her flustered, weak, to make her doubt herself.

But she wouldn't give them the satisfaction.

She plastered on a fake smile. "You know what I want, Julia? For you to shut up."

Julia's mouth dropped open.

Leo actually laughed.

Charles, however, looked unimpressed. "If you think you can come into this family and-"

Jenny cut him off. "Oh, don't worry, I don't want to be in your family. If it weren't for your son and his ridiculous deal, I wouldn't even be here."

Charles studied her for a long moment. Then, to her surprise, a hint of approval flickered in his gaze.

"Good," he said finally. "At least you're honest."

Julia looked outraged.

Leo just smirked, watching the chaos unfold like it was his morning entertainment.

Jenny exhaled, already exhausted.

This was only day one, and she was already at war.

Jenny was just about to escape to her room when Leo grabbed her wrist.

She turned sharply. "What?"

He grinned. "I like you, Jenny. You make breakfast fun."

She yanked her hand away. "Bite me, Leo."

He leaned closer, his breath warm against her ear. "Careful, sweetheart. I might take you up on that."

Her heart stuttered.

She shoved him back, scowling. "What do you want?"

His smirk remained. "You're coming with me to an event tonight."

She blinked. "What event?"

"A business gala. You need to act like my devoted fiancée."

Jenny's stomach sank.

A public event. With him. In front of hundreds of people.

"That wasn't in the contract," she muttered.

Leo shrugged. "Consider it a bonus."

She glared. "What if I refuse?"

His smile didn't waver. "Then I pull the plug on our deal."

Jenny's blood ran cold.

He wouldn't.

Would he?

Leo leaned in, voice low. "Be ready by seven."

And just like that, he walked away, leaving Jenny standing there, her heart pounding.

She was trapped.

And tonight, she'd have to play the role of the perfect fiancée-whether she liked it or not.

To be continued...
