Chapter 3 Three

Contract Marriage with Lucifer

Young Codex

Chapter Three

Jenny sat frozen in her chair.

The weight of what she'd just done pressed down on her chest like a boulder.

She had agreed.

To marry Leo Smith.

To become his contract wife in exchange for her mother's life.

Her fingers trembled as she clutched the folder, staring at the neat, black ink of the contract. Her name would soon be on that paper, tying her to the most insufferable man on the planet.

Across the table, Leo watched her with an expression that was half amusement, half victory.

"You look like you just signed a deal with the devil," he mused.

Jenny shot him a deadly glare. "I did."

Leo chuckled, sipping his whiskey. "Welcome to hell, sweetheart."

Her jaw clenched. "I have conditions."

Leo smirked. "Of course you do."

She inhaled sharply. "No intimacy."

His brow lifted. "Afraid you won't be able to resist me?"

She nearly threw the contract at his face. "I mean it, Leo. This is a business deal, not a real marriage."

His smirk widened, but he leaned back lazily. "Fine. No touching, unless, of course, we're in public. My father has to believe it's real."

Her stomach twisted. The thought of pretending to love him, kissing him, touching him made her sick.

But she had no choice.

She swallowed hard. "I also want my own room."

Leo rolled his eyes. "Done."

"And no interference in my personal life."

His smirk vanished. His eyes darkened.

"I don't give a damn what you do in your free time, sweetheart," he said coolly. "But while you're my wife, you'll act like it. No other men."

Jenny chest tightened. "Excuse me?"

His gaze sharpened, all amusement gone. "You heard me."

Jenny clenched her fists. "You can sleep with whoever you want, but I can't?"

His lips curled. "You're catching on."

Rage boiled in her veins.

She wanted to slap that smug look off his face, to remind him that she wasn't some weak, obedient woman he could control.

But her mother's hospital bed flashed in her mind. The beeping machines. The oxygen mask.

She exhaled shakily.

"Fine." The word tasted like poison.

Leo leaned forward, eyes gleaming with victory. "Then it's settled."

And just like that, her fate was sealed.

The Smith Family House 🏨

Jenny had never seen a house so massive.

Or, correction a mansion.

As the driver pulled up to Smith Estate, her stomach knotted. It looked like something out of a billionaire drama-a sprawling, three-story modern fortress with glass walls, endless balconies, and a driveway that could fit an entire parking lot.

She hated it already.

"You're gawking, sweetheart."

Jenny shot Leo a glare as he stepped out of the car. "I'm mentally preparing for the nightmare I just signed up for."

He smirked. "That's cute."

She resisted the urge to kick him in the shin.

As they reached the front door, Leo barely lifted a finger before a butler in a crisp suit pulled it open.

"Welcome home, Mr. Smith," the man said smoothly.

Leo barely acknowledged him as he stepped inside. "Where's Julia?"

"She's waiting in the lounge."

Jenny frowned. "Who's Julia?"

Leo didn't answer. He just kept walking, and Jenny had no choice but to follow him into the lion's den.

The moment she entered the lounge, a sharp, feminine voice sliced through the air.

"You've got to be joking."

Jenny turned.

A stunning woman stood by the bar, holding a glass of red wine. She had flawless golden-blonde hair, piercing blue eyes, and an expensive designer dress that clung to her slender frame.

She looked like she belonged in this mansion.

Unlike Jenny, who suddenly felt like an unwanted stray cat.

"Julia," Leo drawled lazily, grabbing a drink. "Be nice."

Julia's lips curled as she stared Jenny down.

"So, this is your wife?" she sneered.

Jenny's hands balled into fists.

Leo smirked. "Jealous?"

Julia laughed coldly. "Please. I just didn't think you'd settle for someone so... plain."

Oh, hell no.

Jenny's blood boiled.

She took a step forward, eyes blazing. "And I didn't think rich women still acted like high school mean girls, but here you are."

Julia's eyes flashed. "Excuse me?"

Leo choked back a laugh.

Jenny crossed her arms. "Let me guess, you're one of his playthings?"

Julia's jaw tightened.

Leo smirked. "She's my father's business partner."

Jenny blinked. That wasn't what she expected.

Julia shot Leo a sharp look. "We were also something else before Daddy cut you off."

Jenny stomach twisted.

Leo just shrugged. "And now I'm married."

Julia's lips curled. "We'll see how long that lasts."

She downed her wine, set the glass down with force, and stormed out.

Jenny exhaled sharply, glaring at Leo. "Well, that was fun."

He chuckled. "You handled her better than most."

She rolled her eyes. "That woman hates me."

"She'll get over it."

Jenny narrowed her eyes. "Were you really with her?"

Leo didn't even flinch. "Jealous?"

She snorted. "Not in this lifetime."

He smirked. "Then don't ask questions you don't want the answers to."

Her stomach twisted again.

She didn't want to care. But for some reason, Leo's relationship with Julia made her uneasy.

And that was dangerous.

Leo led Jenny Upstairs, down the hall to a massive bedroom.

"This is yours," he said, pushing the door open.

Jenny gawked.

It was insanely luxurious.. a king-sized bed, floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city, and a closet big enough to fit an entire apartment.

She turned to Leo. "You sure this isn't a trick?"

He smirked. "Disappointed I'm not forcing you to share my bed?"

She scoffed. "Not in this lifetime."

Leo leaned in slightly. Too close.

His cologne wrapped around her, making her stomach flip.

"Good," he murmured. "Because I don't do love."

Jenny breath hitched.

She knew that.

She'd always known that.

But somehow, the way he said it-so cold, so final-made her chest ache.

Before she could say anything, he stepped back.

"The wedding's in two weeks. Behave until then."

And with that, he left.

Jenny exhaled, pressing a hand to her racing heart.

What the hell had she gotten herself into?

And more importantly...

Could she really survive this marriage without losing herself?

To be continued...
