Chapter 3 The call of the academy

The Wilson's family has never been less happier since the addition of Damien into the equation. They felt like they had a son of their own, and made sure no single harm came to him.

This very fateful day, Damien left the house to go hunting. He felt he couldn't just be eating the food brought by Mr Wilson, but instead needed to hunt as well. He just wanted to be of help to the family, and he felt no better way could surpass going to the fields to plant, and also hunt for some food.

Even though the Wilson's family did their best, he wasn't ever satisfied with the meat they brought to him. He loved the big animals, and was never happy eating just an Antelope even when he was with his parents. To him, it was a hurt on his pride to go for smaller animals when there were bigger ones out there.

Before going out, he received a forehead kiss from Mrs Wilson who finally agreed to let him out. But she pleaded, he should return before sunset. She then gave him a bow, and an arrow, but he rejected them, and told her it was much easier for him using his bare hands. After much argument, he agreed to take the bow and arrow, even though he knew it would be useless to him in the wild.

Mr Wilson had gone to town to see a friend quickly so he wasn't available to see him off.

While clearing the weeds on the ground to get some available fruits before he sees an animal, an arrow shot pass him and he quickly turned. It carried his name "Damien", which piqued his curiosity, but he continued hunting while trying to figure out why an empty letter was sent with just his name.

He had caught three animals in his hands now, and was happy they would make a great dinner at home. But before he could raise a foot, he started feeling a racking pain in his back that forced him into a bowing position.

He groaned in pain as the pain spread to his arms, and then his feet. His whole body was sweating profusely now, and all the hairs on his body has raised up by the screeching pain. It was as if someone had placed him in hell, and shut the doors.

As he struggled to look at the burning sensation in his left arm, he saw a tattooed mark with some strange writeups.

[School of Immortals]

[Latitude 4°N]

[A Tower above the skies]

While trying to understand what this writeup means, a screen appeared before him.

"Welcome Damien. You've been admitted into the School of Immortals that breeds vampires, werewolves, and all kinds of half-human-half-animal beings to harness their innermost strength and become immortals......You are to report with immediate effect to the school headquarters....".

The screen then disappeared before him leaving him with another tattoo on his right arm that contains the full direction of the school.

Damien stayed motionless for a minute trying to comprehend what he just experienced now, the lingering pain, and then the sudden invitation to a school he has no idea about. And what were they saying? Werewolves?

What are werewolves?

He only knew wolves whom he hunted in the forest in his childhood days. But, why were they talking about half human and half animals? He thought those mythical stories were in non-existence so why would it come up all of a sudden?

After sitting on the pile of leaves of the forest for what seems like an hour, his mind traced back the last thing he saw on the screen.

Only his soul would be transported to the school, and so he needed to come up with a plan of how to protect his body from wild animals while he'll be away.

He didn't want to leave just like that without dropping a note to Mr Wilson but he had to, in order to find out why all these ugly unexplainable tattoos are on his body.

After looking around, he saw a distant tall oak tree that had what looked like an abandoned tree house on it.

This was going to be the perfect hideout for his body, to protect his body from predators out there.

He walked in, and saw the tree house was safe, so he locked himself in the main room and decided to wait there for his sermon, but shockingly for him, his body and soul were transported.

Walking into the school, he saw how big and mighty it was. It looked more technologically advanced than earth. There were street lights, tall towers, sky scraping buildings, and elevators. Everything left him in awe wondering if he was in the afterlife.

Guided by a winged creature, he moved in, and saw different mythical creatures. He saw humans on four feet, leopard skins, tails, but human stomach, and chest. Some had tiger tails, and bodies, others, lion bodies, and human faces. No one there was completely human so he was the odd one there.

Everyone glanced towards his direction as he moved. He also saw different wolves from various bloodlines. At first, his animalistic instinct almost made him hunt, as he always had fun hunting wolves back in the earth, but this was no home, and seeing a human with a wolf head was something to worry about, so he had to control the urge within him to attack any animal he saw.

"Nothing is real, you'll be fine. I repeat nothing is real, you'll be fine. Your goal here is to know why all these ugly tattoos and to find your identity that's all", he kept repeating to himself to ease the tension within.

"Damien!" A bearded man that looked white as snow approached him with a majestic aura, and a deep baritone voice. "You may proceed with your registration".

He seemed shocked this man knew his name and had his name encrypted into a tablet, before directing some questions at him.

"Yes, I'm Damien Fury!" He answered furiously while observing the vampires who looked at him with saliva drooling from their jaws like they had gotten a jackpot.

"When was the last time you fed on flesh?" This question sounded strange to him. He had never eaten flesh since birth, because he's human.

Or wait?

His brain then ticked and he remembered when he was barely six years old, when he ate an antelope in the forest without roasting it over a fire, because he was so hungry.

But, this was a secret known to only him. Not even his dad knows about this. Why will he tell anyone something like this?

"Be fast, others are on the queue", the man looks at him sternly before opening up his iPad to document his statement.

At first, he was hesitant, but then, he saw that no one cared the least about what his past smelled like. There were probably others there worse than him, so why should he be bothered about a past that had to do with eating live animals to cure his hunger.

"...You may proceed for a blood test", the man says after he narrates his past incident with a live animal.

He saw a needle inserted into the sharp nails of the leopard human who was at the counter. He walked in, and the leopard lady smiled at him before pricking his finger.

"You're cool, boy", she says sweetly. "Next?"

He moved to the other side of the hall and stood calmly while he waited for the results of his blood test.

"Hi, I'm Carly Johnson", a 17 year old lady with sharp canine teeth from the Lupus bloodline, approached him with her hands stretched for a handshake.

"Damien Fury", he protested, as he shifted away from her.

Another approached him shortly, about 18 years old, just three years behind him. "I'm Anna Folly '', a beautiful lady with almond shaped eyes, cute dimples, and wolf tail, from the Skin-walker bloodline, says, while resting her back on the wall with her gaze fixed on him.

The first thing he noticed was her cute sweet smile, but he ignored her, and focused on the vampires who were passing his blood through a solution to know his fate.

"Please, May I know where you're from?" Carly directed her question at Anna as she rested her back on the other side of the wall besides Damien too.

"Oh yes, I'm from Earth, not from here though, what bout' you?"

"I'm from SpaceX, I have been here for a month though".

"That's Great, though I've never been there, I will love to someday. What about the pretty lass here?".

Damien wasn't interested in their conversation as they directed the next question at him.

"Can you ladies please stop being a nuisance? I'm curious about..."

"Damien Fury!"

He left the ladies and approached the old man.

"I'm sorry, but your bloodline is very thin".

"I beg your pardon?"

"You're a werewolf from the Fenrir Bloodline. You're from the ancestral clan of wolfson pack, but I'm sorry we won't be able to accept you because your bloodline is very thin"

"I don't understand. Please what's wrong, how do I change it?"

"I'm afraid you can't be admitted into the academy with a bloodline like that, but there's also hope for you if you can meet up. You have just 7 days to upgrade your bloodline, or you miss out on this academic year".

Before he questioned further, the old man vanished before his eyes.
