Chapter 6 Pack's Law

Author's POV

It turned out that when Lily had written that letter to Tobias, she raced in excitement toward Tobias's chambers. However, she had never been there before, so she did not know exactly where she was going. She called one of the maids to help her locate Tobias's room, but the maid noticed the letter with Lily. The seal was clearly one used between lovers, and to worsen the matter, the maid had huge feelings for Tobias and had always tried her best to get him to notice her.

She watched as Lily raced away, clenching her hand into a fist angrily. "So, Lily is trying to pursue Tobias. She's trying to tell him that she loves him," the maid thought to herself before devising a plan to get Lily out of the way. The only idea that came to her was to report it to the Alpha.

She raced quickly toward the Alpha's throne room. Even though she knew the Alpha might not listen to her or might even dismiss her, she still would not let anyone else have Tobias. She waited for a few minutes, and just then, the Alpha was returning to his throne room, while Tobias had not yet gone to his room. This was the perfect opportunity.

She quickly rushed and blocked the Alpha, kneeling to the ground and looking down at the floor. "Alpha, I am sorry to disturb you, but I have very important news for you. Lily is not in her room. In short, I just bumped into her doing something known as an abomination," she said, causing the Alpha to look at her in confusion.

"What exactly are you trying to say?" he questioned, instructing her to stand up. As she quickly stood up, she added, "Lily went to see Tobias."

The Alpha clenched his hands. "Yes, when Lily returned, it felt like the connection between her and Tobias had changed. They seemed to grow closer. One of the guards even reported that Lily blew a kiss to Tobias, which he almost smiled at, but he decided to wave it away. Maybe that was Lily's way of thanking him since she was always very cunning and did weird things."

He waved it off, but Lily sneaking to see Tobias without asking for permission or making it public, instead going to his chambers, worried the Alpha. He had already started observing Tobias and felt like Tobias did not just see Lily as a sister he had to take care of.

The Alpha turned to the guards. "Let's go now," he said as they all marched toward Tobias's room. But when the Alpha reached the front of his chambers, he noticed that nothing was actually going on. There was no sound from the room. Just then, as he was about to leave, Lily rushed out as if she had been pushed away, looking very angry, as if she could cry at any moment. She did not even notice that she had passed the Alpha.

"Lily!" he called, and she quickly turned around, surprised to see the Alpha with guards.

"Why are you in Tobias's room?" he questioned, but she was speechless. Just then, Tobias also came out, surprised to see the Alpha.

"What is going on? Why are you both coming out from there? Is something going on?" the Alpha asked, looking at Tobias, who was speechless. Tobias was not expecting this at all. He did not even know how the Alpha had gotten the chance to come to his chambers. He thought he had clearly seen the Alpha leave the palace premises a few minutes before he came upstairs, not knowing that the Alpha had forgotten something and had come back.

That was when the maid saw her chance.

"Brother, can't I just come and see Tobias? I came to thank him. Is there something offensive about that?" Lily said, hoping that Tobias would not get into trouble because he had just warned her, and now she would be the one to blame if anything happened to him.

But the Alpha did not want Lily to panic. He already knew what he had in mind but did not want it to affect Lily's thinking. So he smiled to cover up his thoughts.

"I am yet to see Tobias, and I bumped into you. That is why I was questioning you. Now go to your chambers and don't ever try what you just did again," he said to her.

Lily did not utter a word as she rushed off, turning to look back at Tobias from time to time until she vanished. The Alpha turned to the guards and motioned for them to stay outside Tobias's chambers before he pushed past Tobias without saying a word and entered his room.

He sat down on the bed and looked around. The good thing was that Tobias had already tossed the letter into his wardrobe before rushing after Lily just a minute ago. Tobias stood in front of the Alpha, looking down at his feet, hoping the Alpha would not notice anything wrong.

"I am sorry, my Alpha. I shouldn't have even given her the chance to enter my chambers. But I swear to you, I met her just now. When I came in, she was already in the room, and she said she needed to thank me privately for everything I did. I could not just chase her away; I even had to tell her to leave," Tobias tried to explain, even though he knew he was not being entirely truthful.

The Alpha looked up at him with a sharp gaze. "Look at me," he ordered, and Tobias immediately stared at him, unable to defy the Alpha's command.

"Don't ever try what you just did. Do you know the kind of abomination you are trying to create? Do not let Lily get to you. Yes, Lily is very cunning, and she will always try to make you desire her. But don't let it happen. You two don't fit. You two can't be together. You need to get that into your head. You need to always remember that particular word I am saying to you. The both of you can never, ever try to be together. That is enough. Don't let me say it again because you won't like it. You are my Beta; she is my sister. Have you ever heard of a situation where a Beta tries to meet with the Alpha's sister? And do you know what the situation turned out to be?" the Alpha asked, as Tobias shook his head, even though he knew exactly what the punishment would be.

The Alpha stood up abruptly, walking toward Tobias and tapping him gently on the shoulder. Tobias knew this was a very friendly warning. No matter how close the Alpha and the Beta were, the pack would come together and decide whether he should be banished or killed if anything happened between him and the Alpha's sister.

"Let that ring a reminder in your head. Anytime you try to get close to me, keep your distance. I only said you should protect her; I did not say you should sleep with my sister," he muttered before storming away.

Tobias clenched his fists. He had finally received the warning he had been trying to escape.
