Classic music blared from the speaker and Emilia sat hunched over her computer. Her glasses were firm on her face and her hands kept on tapping in different combinations. She hated guessing games but the next level of her cloaking required it. Her colleagues knew better than to disturb her when she was like that, they knew better than to even knock on her door. Obsessive and intent. The breach had been unexpected and the startup had contacted her company to help fix it. The weather was hot but Emilia was unconcerned, her box office was not the most convenient.
It was modern, practical and cute, but then again, it wasn't conducive. It was small and a claustrophobic person would find themself gasping for air, but it was her space and Emilia loved it. "How many minutes till you're done Emilia?" Her boss called from the door and she grunted in response, he waited for a more feasible response and when none came he walked away. Another visitation from him and the office would suffer another Emilia explosion, nobody could deal with that. Emilia Carrillo was not a monster, matter of fact, she was beautiful, smart and the best tech developer you would ever find, but then, she was grumpy, hardly smiled and had fire for days. When she had come to them for a job, the former employer had been sexist. He said he couldn't hire a sulky female, it was odd that a much bigger company had called her but because she feared the instability of jobs like that, and she feared her works would not be recognized, she rejected it. When Carson had said he couldn't hire her because she was female, she had settled behind his desk and start his computer. She hacked into his wife's computer and showed him all of the infidelities the woman was allowing. Of course it had ruined his marriage but she had gotten the job. She accepted raises and promotion but never considered leaving, she liked her job and wanted it to remain. Heck yes!" She screeched as she successfully fixed the breach, she ran her hands through her hair, it was damp and even under her eyes were watery. She imagined her hair would be taking on a false shade of reddish brown. She stood up and turned down the classical music that was playing. She needed every kind of sounds when she worked, all but the human voice. As if on cue, Carson returned back to the room. He smiled, a broad and cheeky smile, she took a long gulp from her water before placing it down. "You stand around waiting for me? Are you out of jobs?" She asked him, her tone sharp and judging. "I know we can always count on you, thank you. Did you put up a strong wall?" He asked and Emilia could tell he was fishing for conversations. She wasn't interested but his attempts were pathetic and she had to help. She sighed and turned to him, her tee shirt sticking to all sides of her dress. "What do you want, Carson?" He let his hands fall to his sides and scratched his hair awkwardly. "I was thinking if you would like to go on a date with me. Don't disagree yet, it would really be good, and i will pay all of the bills," Emilia shook her head as second hand embarrassment filled her. She picked up her half eaten Doritos and put one in her hands. "Carson, if you really think that poor attempt at a conversation would get a woman out with you, then you might as well go back to Sherry. I can't, and won't. Thank you for the offer though," He watched her and he wondered why she was so harsh, he was grateful he hadn't gone through with the initial plan of a grand flier gesture. "Would you at least give me tips on what to say?" He asked, sounding foolish as sheepish. "Carson, AI exists, don't ask me silly questions. Please you can close the door behind you," she called at him as he turned to leave. "Scary, scary, Carillo." He muttered as he walked out, leaving her to herself. He couldn't fire her or sanction her, she was the company and the company was her. Carson tech dev needed Emilia Carillo. She moved over to the window and stood overlooking Manhattan, the weather was never stable enough for anybody to determine what it was going to be the next minute. Emilia wrapped her hands around her neck as she wallowed in her forever present economic validation. She was working, and earning and building accordingly, it caused a tingle in her stomach. Her father worked, he worked so much but they never really saw what he worked for. It was almost an illusion. Her door opened aggressively and she didn't move, only grunted. "Carson, I said I want to be alone!" More footsteps came from the door and this time she was alert, she turned and found four hefty men standing in her tiny office, they had guns and looked like an illusion, almost like if she blinked they wouldn't be there again but they were. They were hefty, and her heart pounded aggressively in her chest. She was scared as hell, an abnormal Emilia emotion, but she was. "Who the hell are you and what do you want?" She asked them, she didn't want to appear intimidated by the men but she already was. They looked like they could kill her with one swipe. "We are here to escort you to the kingmaker, he has demanded your presence at the villa." One of the men said, his eyes was heavily coveted and she had to wonder if it was just a heavy prank or the whole thing was an actual situation. "Is this a joke? Who the fuck is the kingmaker and who did you get in here?" Emilia asked and moved closer to her desk, she had a whole security trigger set up in the small office and she was going to activate it immediately she discovered they were actually here to take her anywhere. "Don't attempt to play any joke with us ma'am. Adrian Russo has demanded your presence at the villa and we must take you there as you are his property." The man continued and Emilia fought the urge to burst out laughing. She stepped on the tile marked X and looked up at them, she has never been more grateful for that security feature in her life. "Who the hell is that?" They shared an odd look among themselves and charged for her but she pressed the button under her files and her beams went down surrounding them. "Fuck!" The men cussed as she hurried out but she didn't go far before she jammed another one of them at the door. "Come here chit, you're coming with me!" He said angrily and she wriggled and struggled in his arms. "What do you want from me? Who the hell is Adrian Russo and why are you kidnapping me! Help me!" She yelled but it was oddly quiet, she felt like she could die. What was going on?
