However, the moment Kiara approached Nina, she had already passed out. She took her to a hospital in the human part of the world, South Lake City, which was far from the location.
However, before they could reach the hospital, her condition had worsened. The doctor confirmed there was an issue with her pregnancy that she sustained when she had that fall on the concrete beam.
The doctor stated that the child wouldn't survive. He suggested Nina abort it, but she refused, insisting she would birth it with the expectation that nothing would happen to her baby.
To Nina's dismay, when she birthed the baby, it turned out that he had died inside the womb a week ago. She was heartbroken.
Kiara was from the Night Shade pack as well. She didn't attend the mating ceremony that night because she left the pack during the day for an errand and didn't make it on time.
"Are you okay?" Kiara repeated before Nina forced a smirk and nodded in affirmation. "Yeah. I'm good," she said, gulping hard.
"I hope it's not about your baby? Come on, Nina. It's been two years already, and you still can't move on. I had been standing here for almost half an hour, but you didn't notice my presence."
"Instead, you were constantly sighing, waving your head, and thinking," she lamented.
Nina sighed heavily and sat up. "It's just so hard to forget easily, Kiara. This baby would have become the family I have since I've lost my parents and had no biological siblings. It's just..." She started sobbing.
"It's okay, Nina. I always told you to take me as your sister. I'm always there for you, okay? Please stop crying," Kiara said, dabbing the tears on her cheeks.
Nina took a breath, and her facial expression instantly changed as she remembered something.
"Kiara, you didn't remind me that I have a meeting with the customers?" Nina asked with a worried look.
"By now they must be really disappointed after waiting for me for almost an hour."
"No worries. I cancelled and rescheduled your meeting as I saw you're not in a good state for that," Kiara replied.
"You're welcome. What are friends for? I'm always here for you."
"Point of correction. What are sisters for? You're more than a friend to me now," Nina remarked, causing Kiara to chuckle.
"My apologies. It was a mistake," she said, letting out a grin. "I should be leaving for work now. I've already made lunch, so don't starve yourself in the afternoon," Kiara added and turned to leave.
A few minutes later, after Kiara left for work, Nina left for the restroom to shower. She decided to visit the cemetery where her son was buried because she believed that would help to ease her grief.
At the cemetery, Nina kneeled before a tomb and was crying, muttering some words while holding a flower in her hand.
"I thought by now I would move on, but it's unbearable. Why did you leave without spending even a day with me on this earth?" She paused as the emotion choked her throat.
"But you passed away," she continued, sobbing. "Only you would have been able to fill this void in my heart, but you passed-you passed before I could even get to hold you."
"I'm really sorry for not being able to take care of you, Caleb," she said, whimpering.
She gulped hard and placed the flower on the tomb and then stood up, dabbing her eyes.
Nina sucked in a deep breath before she turned to leave. As she reached the gate, she turned and glanced at her son's grave for the last time for about five seconds before she left.
Nina stood at the road, waiting for a cab to head home only to sight a man sitting in the middle of the road.
The sight sent shivers down her spine as she wondered what the man was thinking.
Just then, a truck honked, signalling it was coming towards the man. Nina expected the man to quickly stand and exit from the road, but he didn't.
"Hey! Get off the road. There's a truck coming!" She yelled at the man, expecting him to instantly jump off the road upon hearing that.
However, the man was unbothered.
Nina was utterly stunned by his action. "Does it mean he's deaf or what?" She thought.
A few seconds later, the man was still on the road, and the truck was speeding very fast closer.
"Hey, man! Get off the road!" She yelled again but still there wasn't any progress. At this point, the truck was already so close to the man. It was even honking heavily at the man, but he still didn't make any move.
"Shit!" Nina couldn't hold it anymore but to take action. She rushed towards him and forcefully pushed him off the road, and then they both landed inside the gutter.
"What's wrong with you, young man?" Nina yelled at him as she instantly rose to her feet, glancing at the man with a stoic expression while breathing heavily.
However, Nina was shocked as she noticed the man's expression. Instead of being grateful that she saved his life, he was staring at her angrily as if she had just spoiled a good opportunity for him.
It was then that it dawned on Nina that the man must have considered taking away his life through suicide and was now angry that she prevented him.
"I totally understand how you feel and what you must be going through. But trust me, suicide isn't the best option or solution to your problems."
At this moment, the man exhaled a heavy breath and gulped down. "Are... are you my guardian angel?" He asked with a worried look on his face.
