The most dangerous enemy was a prepared Witch - there are so many buff spells that could be used to increase her strength, all she needed was time, and Ursula had enough of that this past week.
The Vampire stood up once more, its robes scorched at the corner, its mask cracked. With a swift motion it removed the mask, revealing a flawlessly beautiful but pale Lady. The matter was already getting out of hand and the Twins were escaping, I knew I had to move, now.
In a simple motion, I jumped from behind the tree where I stood and landed on my four limbs, my white fur dancing in the cold wind as I shook my body to feel the power coursing through my bones and growled. Ursula just looked at me, her eyebrow raised;
"So there was really a werewolf, I knew I couldn't be wrong. You might be two, but you will both die the same."
Then with a swift gesture, I saw a fireball streaking straight for me but I easily dodged it with the distance between us. With a snarl, I bounded forward, heading towards Ursula trying to get to her before she summoned another fireball. But I had underestimated the high witch, she just clenched her fist and I felt the wind that had always pushed me forward turn against me. It was like the wind had grown hands and each tendril was trying to hold me down, and it infuriated me - how dare she. Then the moment passed and I was free, the wind was pushing me once more but I didn't let my surprise stop me. Lunging at Ursula I slapped her chest with my claw, but not before I saw the look of surprise on her face. Ursula was sent flying yet there was no blood on her body, another spell I was sure.
I should have followed to finish the job, tearing out her throat and watching her bleed, but my mission was the twins and they were escaping. The Vampire was already running towards them and I couldn't let anything go wrong anymore so I ran deeper into the forest, after the Twins.
.....
It wasn't hard to get the Twins, after all they were just humans. The Vampire got to them first as they were known for their speed after all, but I was no slouch reaching the Twins just seconds after the Vampire. I wanted to end things fast, and it seemed like the Vampire was of the same mind as she snarled and lunged at Mark, the younger twin, but he was able to miraculously dodge just by a hairbreadth, his necklace glinting in the moonlight.
I knew immediately that there must have been some sort of sorcery at play, but he couldn't dodge me as I swiped at the necklace, tearing his shirt, chest and the rope to pieces in a flash of white light as he flew backwards.
"MARK!!!"
Screamed Mike as he watched his brother hit the floor and slump, I would have felt pity for him anywhere, but this was a death order, there was no room for Mercy here. The Vampire held Mike by his neck and raised him into the air, choking him as he dangled. Finally I was about to be done with this fucked up mission, I had almost breathe a sigh of relief when all the fur on my back stood in fright.
An aura that didn't lose out to the Lycan Prince Luther's filled the area, and I couldn't stop my limbs from trembling. I looked at the direction of where the aura came from, and my heart sank when I saw Mark, standing straight with his healed chest, and his eyes glowing an ominous red as he snarled, his fangs glinting in the moonlight.
The momentary pause due to the Aura was all Mark needed to attack the Vampire, kicking her away from his brother. I pounced at him but he was too fast, dodging the lunge and kicking me at the side, I felt my ribs caving in and I saw stars due to the pain. It was so painful that I was forcefully transformed back in my human state.
It took a few seconds for me to come to, and from the corner of my eyes I could see Mike on the ground clawing at his necklace that glowed white hot, it looked like it was burning him as he tried to remove it, but immediately it was off, his eyes turned red and the burn marks started to heal.
It was then I understood, the necklace wasn't to protect the twins, instead it was used to lock their powers. What I didn't understand though was why Mike was growing bigger and red fur was growing from his back. Wasn't his twin brother a Vampire?, then why was Mike... transforming into a towering Lycan.
Hybrids.
The thought hit me like an avalanche, sending my thoughts spiraling and allowing the horror of the situation to truly sink in. No wonder the mission was so important that even a Vampire was allowed to join. A Hybrid was a mix of two ancestries, in this case it should have been a Lycan and a Vampire and it was a taboo punishable by death - which I was sent to mete out, the irony. Hybrids differed according to their bloodlines, but one thing that was known about every hybrid was that they were far more powerful than the norm. Meaning just Mark alone could kill the both of us, now with Mike joining, there was no hope.
Mark held the Vampire in his hand, her body dangling and battered. The Vampire struggled weakly but it was futile, with a sickening crunch the Vampire stopped struggling and went limp. She was dead, and I never got to even know her name... I stood up weakly, even if I was going to die, I would die a warrior - so I stared into the cold red eyes of the towering red Lycan as he raised his claw, but then I was stunned by what I saw.
Or rather felt...
The connection that I had been waiting years for, the day I had dreamt of time and time again...
My Mate.
