Chapter 9 Messed Up

Emily's POV

A feathery touch made me stir in my sleep, I turned on the bed and felt someone in it. I opened my eyes drowsily and found those hazel eyes boring into my eyes. Before I could say a word, he placed his finger on my lips.

"Shush," he made the hush sound, his closeness and his skin on mine made me love this sensation.

He climbed up the bed and I shifted a little to create space for him.

'What is he doing here?' I pondered, my heart beat in delight as I got to receive this kind of warmth from him.

I turned my back at him, I could feel him resting his chin with his elbow on the bed. His right hand on my arm as he gave me a gentle pat.

I bit my lower lip, shut my eyes closed and tried to fight the urge with my heart pounding. I wasn't expecting him to come back.

After a while, he chuckled huskily with the tone echoing in my ears.

"What?" I asked without turning to him.

"I wonder if your heart won't explode soon," he said and it took me some time before his words registered in my head.

I bit my lips when I heard him. Dumb@ss.

"I'm just telling the truth, aren't I?" he asked amidst his chuckles. I didn't respond to him and only smiled. He seems to be in a good mood.

The thought of him coming tonight filled my heart with affection. I was really overwhelmed by the maid's death.

We both didn't say anything after a while, only our heartbeat and breathing was heard.

It took a great effort before I could sleep, now I don't think that I'll be able to go back to sleep.

"Are you sleeping already?" He asked.

"No" I responded immediately.

"Good. That means I'm not the only one having trouble sleeping," he breathed a sigh of relief.

"Tell me about your day," he added.

"Nah," I declined before turning to face him.

The dim light of the room reflects on his face, I saw him raised his brows.

"I have something to ask you actually," I stated before he could speak. He smiled, resting his head on his folded hands as he laid on the bed.

"I'm all ears, my Queen," he said with a hint of playfulness. I sat upright, tried to balance my sitting position before crossing my legs.

"I-I... uhm... promise not to take it the wrong way?"

"I promise," he didn't blink an eyelid when he said that. He was really cool and sure knows how to flirt or maybe hide this thoughts with his eyes telling the opposite.

"I was in the garden when I saw a raven flying towards the council chamber....." I began, paused to notice his expression.

It was still the same aside the corner of his lips lifting up with a knowing smile.

".....then I heard you growling. You mentioned war or some people declaring war," I concluded, trying not to be nervous.

He didn't say anything and I didn't say anything for a while.

"Aren't you saying anything?"

"You didn't ask me a question. You only told me what you saw and I'm unaware of what you wanna know," he responded calmly.

He was right.

It just occurred to me that I didn't actually ask him a question.

"Well, I just wanna know about what happened. Let's say, I'm a little bit worried," I said, gesturing with my fingers to quantify how worried I was.

"You don't have to worry. Everything is under control," he smiled again.

At this point, I'm starting to find it creepy. It was as if he was assessing me, like he wanted to see me do something or make a comment.

Noticing this, I nodded and didn't ask any questions further. I thought we were having a moment, but he was still being secretive about some things. I was about to lay down when he spoke up.

"Some Alphas have declared war with the King... me," he stated and I stared at me.

"Uh?" I questioned, "Why?" I added. It was totally uncalled for. Declaring war toward their leader.

"The prophecy about my death has been made known and recently, many have start to interpret it according to their knowledge. Also, many have been pissed for the past ten years since your arrival because I haven't crowned you as the Luna Queen yet. So after the throne rejection, it was perceived to be my cross to be mateless. In short, they wanna dethrone me. I've ruled over them and their fathers for many centuries without giving them a Queen. I'm not an easy opponent to deal with so they called for war instead," he explained casually as if it wasn't a big deal.

"This is a very delicate matter you have here, Jack. What are your plans?" I asked.

"Jack?" He repeated his name with his widened smile, "He likes that," he chuckled, which made me believe that the smile wasn't fake.

"Who?"

"My wolf. His name is Josh but I call him Jerk," he introduced and I snickered.

"Jerk?" He nodded.

"He has been controlling my emotions a lot," he said and I nodded with a smile.

"What about your wolf?" He asked. I swallowed my saliva, we are digressing from the actual topic.

"She's Amelia. We usually don't communicate but I do feel her presence."

"Why is that?"

I shrugged my shoulders, "Nothing much. That's just how we are. I'm not a full blooded werewolf," I stated and he nodded.

"I grab," he nodded repeatedly with a serious expression. This piqued my interest and I moved a bit closer.

"So about the war..... are they going to kill you?"I blurted out. It was when I said it out I realized the mistake I made. He sat upright and smirked.

"Yeah,"

I scratched the back of my head, "I'm sorry that came out wrong. I think we need to sleep now," he nodded and I turned my back to face him.

I could feel his eyes on my back and that was making my toes curl. I really messed. I was only curious because he shouldn't be bothered about death since he's an immortal.

My back stiffened when he moved closer to me, his hands around my waist.

"I don't wanna say good night once again," he paused for a moment before dropping a kiss on my neck.

"See you tomorrow, my Queen," he whispered while I battled with my heartbeat to stop racing.
