Quinn had had a long day. She had been in meetings from dawn till dusk, and she was exhausted. All she wanted to do was go home, crawl into bed, and forget about the stresses of the day.
As she drove home, she felt her eyelids getting heavier and heavier. She tried to fight it, but it was no use. She was too tired.
The next thing she knew, she was waking up to the sound of sirens and the feeling of pain all over her body. She was disoriented and confused, but as she looked around, she realized that she was in a hospital room.
A nurse came over to her and started checking her vitals. "Welcome back, Ms. Harrington. You've been in an accident. You're lucky to be alive."
Quinn's mind was foggy, but she tried to remember what had happened. She vaguely remembered driving home, but then... nothing.
The nurse continued to talk, but Quinn's attention was diverted to the other bed in the room. There was a man lying there, hooked up to all sorts of machines. Quinn's heart sank as she realized that she must have hit another car.
The nurse met Quinn's gaze with a steady look and affirmed, "Yes, another person was involved in the accident. He's stable, but he has serious injuries that require immediate attention."
A sharp wave of guilt crashed over Quinn, forcing her to confront the reality of the situation. She had always been a responsible driver, but she allowed her exhaustion to compromise her better judgment.
As she lay in the stark hospital room, working to reconcile the chaos around her, the unmistakable sound of footsteps approached with urgency. Quinn's head snapped up, and her heart raced as Andrew strode in. His eyes were puffy and red from crying, a vivid display of the turmoil that gripped him in the wake of the accident.
As soon as he saw Quinn, his expression changed from sadness to anger. "You!" he spat, his voice venomous. "You did this to my brother! You're going to pay for this!"
Quinn was taken aback by Andrew's outburst, but as she looked over at the man in the other bed, she felt a shock of recognition. It was Eric, her ex-boyfriend.
Quinn's mind reeled as she tried to process what was happening. She had caused an accident that had hurt Eric, the man she had once loved. Not only did she hurt him, Andrew was also standing in front of her, raging seriously.
The shock was too much for her, and Quinn felt herself passing out again. As she fell back onto her pillow, she heard Andrew's angry voice fading into the distance.
"You're going to pay for this, Quinn Harrington. You're going to pay dearly."
