Chapter 5 The feeling of betrayal

AVA'S POV

I couldn't move, couldn't blink. It was as if I had been doused with cold water. How would Melbourne be pregnant for Blair? I'm his wife!

I watched as Melbourne stepped forward and my husband took her hand as they smiled at each other. It was almost like I didn't exist. How could they be so cruel?

"Hold on," I called out and everyone turned to look at me. Melbourne's eyes met mine and her lips curled into a smirk as she mocked me with her expression. Was this what she was talking about?

My mother-in-law was standing with a smug expression while Blair... his expression was cold as he glanced at me. His eyes held no warmth as he looked at me like I was nothing to him.

"Blair, I'm your wife and Mel is my sister. How could you get her pregnant? What happened to trying again until we got it?" I asked amidst tears and the whole burst into murmurs as I stepped forward with the box in my hand.

"That's not his wife? How come she's pregnant for him?" I heard someone say to the other and my heart shattered into pieces.

"If she's really the wife's sister, that means Blair has been cheating on his wife! How vicious!" Another voice spoke up and I could see Blair's face get uncomfortable.

"How could you do this to me, Blair?" I asked and he scoffed as he let go of Mel's hand before stepping forward to meet me.

"Did you give me a choice? Don't you think I've been too patient? Four years and you've made me a laughing stock because you couldn't give me a child! Look, Melbourne is pregnant. Doesn't that mean you've always been the problem?" He retorted and I let out a soft gasp of shock as tears ran down my cheeks.

"That's why you decided to cheat on me with my sister? You unselfish, inhumane bastard! How could you break me like this? You could have done it with someone else! Why my sister?" I cried out and he let out a scoff as he crossed his arms.

"Why not her? Isn't she also a lady? She's beautiful, smart, and even more fun than you are. She's fertile and totally perfect as my wife, don't you think? She's not sterile like you!" He responded and I could feel a painful tug as I placed my hand on my stomach.

"I thought you loved me, Blair. Just because I couldn't give birth, you had to reduce me like this? You vowed that till death do us part!"

"Well, then go and die!" He yelled back and I became speechless as I took a step backward while loud murmurs echoed around the room.

"Ava, please listen to me. It wasn't intentional." Someone spoke up and it was Melbourne. She had tears running down her face like she was the one who was wronged here.

"I had no choice, I did it for you. I wanted to give birth to this child while you and Blair took care of it like yours. I mean no harm, Ava, please believe me." She cried and took a step forward but I immediately stepped away from her as laughter escaped my lips.

"Now I understand what you meant when you told me to be prepared. You were right. This hurts more than being hit by a truck. You wanna know something funny?" I spoke with a smile and everyone looked at me in confusion as to why I could be smiling at such a time.

"None of this would hurt me so much if I hadn't found out that I was pregnant too. Guess what, Blair? I'm not infertile. I'm two weeks pregnant, isn't that amazing?" I concluded with a smile as I flung the box at him while his eyes widened in shock.

"You're... how come?" He yelled in shock, but I didn't want to listen to any more of his lies, so I turned around and left the house in the dark of the night.

"I'll go bring her back; she's my sister, so I understand her well." I heard Melbourne say shamelessly and I started to run as fast as my legs could carry me while tears ran down my face.

Everything was over. My marriage of four years had been trampled on; my sister and I were pregnant for my husband, and he wasn't even remorseful about it.

I didn't want to go back, didn't want to remember anything that happened. I hated them all for treating me this way.

I finally stopped running and tried to catch my breath as I stood by the bridge. Should I jump in? But what will happen to my unborn baby?

I suddenly heard the loud screeching of a car and Melbourne came out with a worried expression on her face.

"Ava, are you okay?" She asked the moment she came up to me and I scoffed at how well she could act innocent.

"Quit the charade, Mel. You've gotten what you wanted. What do you want from me now?" I asked and her lips curled into a wicked smile as she let out a soft chuckle.

"Oh, Ava, I told you to be prepared. Who would have known that you had gotten pregnant? You're right; I did get what I wanted, but now that you're pregnant, it's an obstruction, don't you think?" She asked with a sinister smile and my brows furrowed in confusion and fear.

"What do you mean?" I asked as she stepped forward, and before I could step away, she held me by my shoulders.

"I mean, you need to leave so that I can enjoy Blair. Think about it: you fell into the water because you couldn't take the heartbreak and tried to kill yourself. Perfect suicide example, don't you think?" She grinned, and I shook my head in panic as I tried to struggle, but she wouldn't let me go.

"Melbourne, no! I'll let you and Blair be, just don't do this!" I pleaded and she shook her head as she laughed like a maniac.

"But he won't leave you alone, so you have to go. Goodbye, Ava." She said as she pushed me backward and I tried to hold on to something but to no avail.

I fell hard into the water and it swallowed me up immediately. There was no use trying to struggle, I knew it was over for me... but if only...

If only I could get another chance...
