Chapter 2 Could there be good news

AVA'S POV

I didn't know what my mother-in-law was talking about, but I wasn't going to let her try to scare me with her insignificant words. Blair still loved me and I knew deep down that he was just frustrated by his mother and co-workers.

The day had nearly ended when I heard someone ring the doorbell and my brows creased into a frown because I wasn't expecting anyone at this hour.

I walked up to the door after minutes of constant ringing before pulling the door open and my heart stopped when I realized who it was.

"Melbourne?" I asked in shock, and she grinned at me as she waved before pushing past me and waltzing into the house, leaving me confused and dumbfounded.

"What are you doing here, Mel?" I asked the moment I slammed the door shut and she turned to look at me with a pouty expression.

"Am I not allowed in my beloved sister's husband's house?" She asked with a sad expression and I rolled my eyes at how dramatic she was.

Beloved, my foot. Melbourne was nothing but a devil in human form and I knew she was up to no good by showing up here all of a sudden.

"Get straight to the point, Mel. What do you want?" I asked and she let out a sad sigh as she sat on the chair like she owned the house.

"Well, truth be told, I'm here to see your mother-in-law. We have a lot to talk about." She replied and my heart nearly stopped. What the hell were they planning together?

"What do you want to see her for? What are you planning this time?" I asked in anger as I stepped forward and she let out a soft chuckle of amusement.

"Would you believe me if I said we were friends? Can you stop being so pitiful and paranoid? Like I said, I have a lot of things to catch up with her, it's nothing too serious." She replied with a smirk but I knew that I couldn't trust her.

Trusting her was like willingly dipping your hands into the fire and believing that it would burn you or hurt you.

"Fine. Make yourself at home." I said as I turned around to walk away but her words made me halt for a moment.

"Oh, don't worry, sissy, I definitely will." She replied and I tried not to read any meaning into her words. I was bothered by her presence but I knew that my hands were tied since she came to see Blair's mother and not me.

I returned to the room with my heart in my throat and I found Blair on the bed, fast asleep. He was probably exhausted from all the shouting and stress he had gone through.

I got into bed with him and cuddled up to him as my body immediately absorbed his warmth. He stirred in his sleep as he gazed down at me before leaning in to place a soft kiss on my forehead.

"I'm really sorry for all I said earlier, Ava. I didn't mean any of that. I was just frustrated, that's all." He explained and I smiled at him in response as I held his hand on mine.

"I know. We're both in this together. And I promise I'll find a way, definitely not IVF, but we'll keep trying until we get it." I responded and he looked at me for a while with an expression that I couldn't fathom before he nodded slightly.

"Sure. Let's do that." He said softly as he pulled me closer and I wrapped my arms around him tightly. He was so comfortable...

I didn't know when I slept off, but when I woke up, Blair was still beside me, fast asleep, and my phone kept buzzing with calls.

"Who the hell is it?" I mumbled sleepily as I reached for the phone and picked up the call before placing the phone on my ear.

"Who is it?" I asked drowsily and my sleepiness immediately disappeared when I realized that it was the doctor who was calling.

"Mrs. Ava, there was a mix-up with the result of the tests we conducted earlier. What I'm seeing is beautiful but I'll need you to revisit the hospital so that we could run another test on you, just to be sure." She explained and a frown formed on my face. Mixup? What does that mean?

"Should I come over now?"

"Oh, no, it's late already. You can come over when it's morning. We'll get started from there." She said as she ended the call and I glanced at the time to see that it was past two in the morning.

We had gone to sleep without dinner...

I wondered if Mel was still around or if she left already.

I decided not to think too much about it and tried to go back to sleep but something in me felt too excited to sleep. After tossing and turning, I finally fell asleep.

I woke up to the sound of my alarm and I turned it off as I freshened up to get ready for the day. Blair was still fast asleep so I decided to let him rest while I stopped at the hospital to see the doctor.

Mel was nowhere to be found when I checked and I was relieved to know that she wasn't up to anything cunning. Arriving at the hospital, I was immediately taken to the test lab where a series of tests were run on me.

I sat in the doctor's office while I waited for her to come in, and when she did, I couldn't help but sit up nervously as she took her seat.

"Doctor, what's the mixup? Is something wrong with me?" I asked and she sighed as she placed the papers on the table with a grim expression.

"Something is indeed wrong with you, Ava." She started and my heart stopped beating. "But in a good way." She continued and I frowned in response.

"You're scaring me, doctor. Stop beating around the bush and just tell me what is wrong with me." I replied nervously and she chuckled as she pushed the results towards me.

"Congratulations, Mrs Ava. You're two weeks pregnant."
