Chapter 7 Shocking Discovery

Serena

My shoulders were sagged as the two men walked me down the hospital corridor, our group attracted a lot of stares when we stepped into the lobby.

My breath hitched in my throat at the thought of my impending fate, I still couldn't believe what was happening. Susan wanted me to get married to Darius, and father actually supported her.

An all too familiar ache gripped me as we made our way to my doom. Every part of me kept screaming at me to turn around and run away, but I couldn't do that. Aside from the two men flanking me, my guilt plagued me, perhaps this was my punishment I thought, wiping my eyes.

I couldn't abandon my family even though they had easily sacrificed me to man they didn't even know. I'd brought this upon myself, and now I had to fix it. If getting married to... I broke off, the thoughts too painful to bear.

"Uhh," I coughed as we made our way down the stairs, my cough catching the attention of the man on my right. I felt stupid asking the question I was about to ask but I didn't have a choice.

"How's Alpha Darius like?" I whispered, trying to sound calm.

The man's eyes flashed with a dangerous light before it was gone. "You'll see." He gazed at me for a moment longer before he nodded slightly, turning his gaze away.

My heart thudded as I walked with them, heading towards a parked car that was already waiting. Thoughts filled my head as I got into the car, I didn't even notice the posh interior of the car. How did Susan get a deal of this sort done so quickly? I wondered.

Did no woman want Alpha Darius? Why me? Was he ugly? Was he a psychopath or a sadist? Mundane and irrelevant questions filled my head as I sat in silence, and I could feel panic rising within me.

"What did it matter?" I whispered tears pricked my eyes. No one in the family was concerned about my safety and happiness. I was just simply their money check.

Tears broke past my defenses, rolling down my cheeks as I blinked quickly, trying and failing to keep them at bay.

"We're here," the guard's cold voice snapped me out of my daze, I didn't even know when we'd arrived.

Keep calm Serena, I whispered to myself. I took a deep breath before I slowly got out of the car. My eyes widened as I stared at the mansion, it was exquisite and lavish. The walls and scenery were littered with beautiful sculptures that gave it an exotic look.

"Come," the guard grunted, his words snapping me out of my daze. "The Alpha's waiting for you."

"Yes," a lump formed in my throat at the mention of the Alpha. I quietly followed behind the guard and he led me inside. The interior was even more exotic, with artwork littered around, giving the place an elegant feel.

The guard lengthened his stride and I struggled to keep up with him. I followed behind him and we took some turns until we reached a room.

"The Luna would be here shortly," the guard nodded quietly, "Go inside."

"Wait..." I exclaimed, I wanted to ask him a question but the guard had already left. My mouth was dry as I stared at the closed door, wondering what... or who was behind it.

You're not going to find out staying here, I thought. I took deep breaths before I opened the door and walked in. It was a small room. My eyes immediately scanned around before landing on an unconscious body, lying limp on the bed like a vegetable.

The faint beep of some strange equipment filled the room.

Alpha Darius? My breath caught in my throat and I froze, my heart was beating erratically as I stared at him. I slowly stepped closer, until I could finally see his face.

"What!" I trembled, waves of surprise coursing through me. No! This wasn't possible! No, maybe there was a mistake. How could this be? I trembled on the spot as I stared at the man. This was Alpha Darius?

This man couldn't possibly be disabled or even in a Coma! Because I had seen this very man with my own eyes just a few hours ago, he was awake, walking on his own two legs and perfectly fine just last night! My mind raced as I recalled the man I'd bumped into when I was rushing out of the party just hours ago, it was the same man. I couldn't be mistaken.

I was sure it was him! I could still recognize that broad chest, full eyebrows and full dark hair. It was him!

I frowned in confusion and it felt like the room was beginning to spin around me.

If the man I met at the party was him, then who the hell was I looking at right now? Who was I marrying?

I was in a daze as I approached him, the disbelief in my eyes deepening as I stared at him intently. This was Alpha Darius? Wasn't he... I stared at him, doubts creeping into my mind. "Didn't the rumours say he was disabled? How then... I couldn't figure it out.

The man was tall and muscular, he was the person I had seen at the event. It couldn't be a coincidence.

My hands trembled as I reached out to touch his cheek. I could feel the warmth of his skin, but there was no response.

How could he be out there at the event while the news held that he was in a coma?

Was this the disability? I wondered, panic rising in my chest. I'd come prepared for many things but not this. He was in a complete vegetable state as far as I could tell.

A chill ran up my spine at the thought of getting married and making this man my mate.

My mind filled with thoughts and I stared at him complicatedly, wishing I could run out at that moment and flee.

A tear rolled down my cheek. I couldn't. A lot was at stake - father's life, the debt hovering above us and even worse. Derek's evil designs for us.

I dared not run. My heart ached as I took a seat beside the unmoving Darius, my eyes moving over him. I was deep in thought when suddenly his eyes trembled slightly before they slowly opened.
