Chapter 9 Unspoken Truth

Sophia Pov:

I groaned as I opened my eyes and remembered that I had to check out from the hotel this morning which would allow me to fetch my brother from home before he leaves for work. I got out of the bed and began setting out my daily routine which involved taking a shower and brushing my teeth.

After finishing my shower, I started getting ready as I could feel my heart beating. Each second passing was reminiscent of the ticking clock. Now dressed and all packed, I walked down the halls of the hotel, ready to greet the day ahead when I bumped into someone.

"I sincerely apologize," I muttered under my breath as I was taken aback by the fact that Justin was the one I had bumped into.

At that point, he simply smiled at me and said, "Sophia!" followed by pulling me into a warm hug.

After a couple of minutes, I let go and he handed me my suitcase.

I wondered, "When did you return?" as we exited the building simultaneously.

"I arrived in the country last night," I mentioned.

Justin assisted in calling a cab and when I hopped into the car, I told him the destination. I discussed the payment before the driver turned on the engine. I waved at Justin while the car was driving off.

I remember ordering a cab so I can cancelled the ordered.

The cab ride was like magic, with the vehicle moving so fast that I was getting painted by the colors of the city. In the backseat, I forced myself to sip into a trance and focus on the beautiful scenery that whizzed by me.

Each turn of the cab ride calmed my mind while bringing me closer to the destination. The anticipation of my brother's hug acted as a motivator for me.

However, my mind didn't stray far away from the idea of Justin, which sparked a small flame of hope in her heart.

The pull of the cab made my heart race as the charming mansion came into view. The silence was disrupted by the cab driver gently inquiring about my intentions or whereabouts.

I stepped out of the car trying to recall the odd scent that the mansion emitted. Every step towards the door, my heart seemed to pulse in a steady rhythm.

After paying the cab driver I took a walk to the door, as soon as I was close enough to knock it opened. To my surprise I was greeted by my brother who was accompanied by some unfamiliar lady.

"Hey, bro," I said with a grin while wrapping my arms around him.

Sophia, you are her... how was your trip?" My brother inquired, his tone being piercing as ever.

"Brother, what's with that long face? Also, who is she?" I pointed towards the lady while asking.

As I was about to say something, the lady interrupted me, saying, 'Hi, this is Evenly, your sibling's spouse.'

Evelyn's address shocked me. I watched as my brother started moving towards his vehicle.

'Brother,' I yelled but it was too late, for he had already shut the door to the car.

When I finally made it inside the mansion, my first action was to breathe as Evenly, who appeared warm and inviting, walked in alongside me. As soon as I got in I sat down on the sofa, and Evenly approached me.

"Can I ask you a question please?" she wondered, taking a seat next to me.

"Sure," I replied.

"Who is Liam to you?" she raised a question with her eyes glued towards me.

"He is my brother," I replied and she started biting her lips.

"Okay, what do you wish to have for lunch and which drink? I will tell the maid to arrange it," she said.

"Don't worry; I am fine. I am still shocked that my brother got married, he didn't even inform me," I said, and in reply, she was also shocked.

"He didn't?" she asked me while already knowing the answer and I nodded.

"I need to freshen up, Luna," I said to her as I lifted my gaze towards her.

"Okay, dear," she replied to me and I began to prepare my suitcase as I began to climb the stairs up when she called me.

"Yes," I spun around to look at her and replied.

"Let me help you with the travelled bag," she said while looking at me.

"You don't need to worry I can take it up to myself," I replied to her while starting to climb the stairs.

I went to my room and saw it was Evenly staying in my room, and I knew instantly they are not sleeping together and I don't think they love each other.

"Maybe they got married because of something" I thought.

I headed out of the room and made my way to the guest room. Arriving in the guest room, the room was in order so I settled by pulling the suitcase to the side and laying down on the bed.

In the calmness of the guest room, I felt encapsulated in a scene where time stood still for a second. Upper bed's mattress was barely making noise as the creases of his body started resting against the pillow. Together with my steady breath, it created an ensemble of silence accompanied with the creaking into which the room was slowly drifting to. All the while I felt the world was mute apart from the melody of the world's most calming lullaby. I was lost in a flurry of my own thoughts.

I was sheltered in the guest room's curtain of solitude which made hours blur into a calm nebulous state as time started slipping away.

In the quiet of the room, my mind drifted to Evenly and a smiled crept on my lips.

"She seems nice towards me, I think she is more affectionate than Eleanor"

Minutes after thinking about the whole thing, I brought out my phone and began chatting with one of my friends.
