Chapter 10 Loveless Marriage

Evelyn Pov:

I was in my room, reading a novel on my phone when I heard a knock on the door, and so, I climbed down from my bed, only to blurt, "Who is that?" As I opened the door, there stood Sophia in front of me.

She waved and smiled at me, to which I reciprocated, "What may I do for you?" I asked while looking straight at her.

"Evelyn, I made something for us to eat this afternoon, let's eat" she said with a warm smile.

"Okay, thanks," I replied while nodding. After that, I departed the room with her.

Sophia did not stop talking about her brother as we descended downstairs. As friendly and fun as she was, her words made me smile even more. When the food was already served in the dining area, we went to the respective seating arrangements, enabling us to dig into the food.

My thoughts wandered to Liam, "Sophia, this food tastes good," I said. "Did it remain? I'm asking because I need to pack some for your brother to eat." She only smiled and nodded.

I remembered when Liam left home this morning, he did not eat or drink anything.

"Okay," I whispered, claiming the last food that was within my reach while we kept eating.

As I was about to take a sip of water, she asked me the million dollar question: "Do you love my brother?" I almost choked on the water. Now that I look back, the reaction I had to what she asked was amusing.

Her question rendered me speechless for the next couple of minutes and I just kept my gaze fixated on her while simultaneously letting my head dip towards the direction of the food that was nearby.

"Don't worry," she said, and I simply nodded in affirmation to her words.

After a few minutes, we both were done with the food so I got up and prepared Liam's lunch. As soon as I was done, I left the mansion.

I went to the intersection in order to get a cab. The sun was shining rather brightly, so I stood there for an hour or so. At this point, one of the cabs parked in front of me."

"Ma'am, what's the destination you are headed to?" The driver mentioned, looking up from the seat.

After I mentioned my destination, he told me the fare of the journey. I was happy with what he proposed, so I entered the cab.

The cab's wheels rolled over the curb and the engine roared. My thoughts were in disarray, however the soothing hum of the engine calmed me down.

All of the buildings, cars and people I passed by whizzed past me. Even though their faces were just blurs, the constant sound of the cab thrum reassured me that I was no longer stationary. That my journey was, in fact, beginning, One of the first places I stopped at was Liam's company. When I exited the cab, a woman stopped me, just as I was about to enter.

"Who gave you the right to stop me? Do you even know who I am?" I inquired with a frown on my face.

-"Regardless of who you are, and even if there's formalities to it, you can not just walk into this company," she said while glaring at me. "Who is it that you want to see?"

"I want to see your boss, and this discussion is not something that I wish to prolong anymore," I replied, after which she smirked at me.

This is when she turned to me and asked if I had made an appointment with him, and as I shook my head, she asked me to leave. At the moment that I was about to try to push my way in, I spotted Liam

I spotted Liam with a swift, feigned stumble, Liana crumpled to the ground, the pretense of her fall an attempt to turn the tide.

My feigned innocence is a performance worthy of an actress.

"Do you push me away, just because I want to see my husband" I implored, as I tried to get up but I stumbled.

Just as I was about to fall down, someone caught me pulling me closer to himself, and when I looked up, it was Liam.

"Liam," I muttered.

With a frown he directed his attention to the woman who was his staff, "How is it that you have the audacity to shove her? She has already informed you that she is here for me and so you should have allowed her in," he spoke with irritation evident throughout his words.

"I'm sorry, boss," the lady said, and Liam shot her an annoyed glance as he pulled me inside the building.

"Get off me! You're literally hurting me," I tried to shout, but it ended up coming out as a murmur. I continued to try and remove my hand from his grasp but failed each time.

When we reached his office, he released me and faced me, looking displeased.

"What are you doing here again? Didn't I tell you at the last encounter that I would prefer it if you did not come back?" His voice was deep and clearly masculine.

"Liam, you didn't " I said as I folded my arms beneath my chest.

"Even if I don't, must you come here?" he continued looking at me, questioning. "But what I want to understand is, why did you come here?"

"Since you did not eat anything before leaving the mansion this morning, I thought it was appropriate that I packed you some food." I replied as I dropped the packed lunch on the table.

Nevertheless, he does not seem to be appreciated and instead, he sat down on the chair and got to work, completely neglecting my presence.

With anger I turned to leave but before I could reach the door, he called me. I was happy thinking that he would apologise but to my surprise, instead of apologising, he stretched the lunch bag toward me.

I frowned as I yanked it away from him and stormed out of his office.

"I regret packing lunch for you. I should have let you starve," I said as I walked out, hissing.
