Chapter 5 An Encounter

Jaxon.

My heart skips a beat.

His green eyes stare into mine in shock. He still looks almost the same as two years ago. His face is not clean shaven anymore and now keeps a mustache. He looks good on him though.

The urge to reach out and run my hands through his soft hair courses through my fingers. He steps forward and the memory of that day pops up in my mind. I step back, hitting the chair behind me by mistake, feeling hurt all over again.

"Seems like you moved on pretty quick". The accusatory tone and look in his eyes throws me off guard.

Resentment and rage bubbles up in my heart as I look at him. I'm sure he had heard me talk about Hazel. He must not find out she's his daughter. He might take her away from me. The nerve of the cheating bastard to talk to me like that.

I don't reply him and instead, sidestep him to leave the room. As I pass him, he tucks his hands into his pocket. On the outside, he looks calm and relaxed. But after knowing him for quite sometime, I know he is very pissed because of the vein popping by the side of his head.

I feel a warm hand wrap around my arm, stopping me in my tracks. I turn my head to the side to look up at him. My eyes stay on his chiseled jaw. The jaw I used to pepper with kisses. The jaw that used to stay in my neck when we hugged.

Due to our massive height difference, I always used to tell him to bend down to my height to hug me. How he always indulged me everytime was beyond me. I craved our hugs throughout the past two years.

He stares straight ahead with his hand still around my arm.

"It seems like you didn't tell her what her job description entails, Mr Davis". What? What does my job have to do with him?

I spin around causing his hand to fall off my arm. I would have missed the warmth if I was not so confused.

I look at Mr Davis expectantly. He sits upright in his chair and looks directly at me.

"Mr Slade has requested for you to be his Relationship Accounts Manager. So from now on, you are to work closely with him".

"How could he have done that? I just got transferred here today..." Everything finally starts to click. This is why the whole thing was really fishy. He was behind it all. But how could he get a whole bank to transfer their staff?

"I'm sorry but it was the only way to get him onboard". What? Are these people serious?

"So I uprooted my child from her environment just because the bank wanted a new client. Does this seem fair to you guys at all?". The rage in my heart keeps rising threatening to choke me.

"Do you usually talk to your bosses like this? Mr Slade, please don't get offended."

I turn back to look at Jaxon and there he is with a slight smile on his face staring down at me in amusement. Does he think this is funny? I need a break this morning. Everything is happening and I'm feeling overstimulated already. So before I become a cranky ass bitch, I better take my leave.

"I will be taking my leave now, sir". I don't pay Jaxon any mind and open and close the door. Stepping out, I take in a deep breath and try to call myself down. Tears threaten to spill out of my eyes with all that has happened today. I just want a break! I need a break!

As I start walking off the floor, I hear the sound of the door click and turn back to look who came out though I have an idea who did.

Big mistake.

Jaxon is taking big strides towards me. I quickly walk trying to get to the elevator before he can get to me. His footsteps increase behind me.

I successfully get to the elevator and enter. As the doors start closing in, I hope he doesn't get inside. But even if I get to my office, he will just follow me and considering I'm now in charge of his account, there isn't much I can do to push him away.

A shoe goes in-between the elevator doors making them open wide again. I need no soothsayer to tell me who owns it. I drop my arms to my side in defeat.

I will just have to keep it strictly business with him then. I don't say anything as he comes in.

"If I didn't know better, I would have said that you were running away from me". I don't behave like I hear anything he says.

As I shift from leg to leg silently praying that this elevator should reach the ground floor on time, a sharp pain courses through my stomach. I resist the urge to double over.

I suddenly realize that I'm about to have an ulcer episode right beside this man. I have not had anything to eat since two days ago. I was in the hospital with Hazel all throughout yesterday. I didn't have anything this morning either.

I'm genuinely shocked that I even made it this far without anything in my system. I settle for swallowing my saliva until I can get to my office and order some food.

"Oh.You disappear first and then decide to keep silent. You are really talented". The hurt I feel starts to compare with the pain I'm feeling in my stomach.

I can't even pay him any mind now because all the adrenaline I have been running on since yesterday is gone. Meaning that if it can take just one mis-step for me to land on the floor in tears.

Why is this damn elevator so slow?! I hit the ground floor button repeatedly almost punching it in anger.

My sight becomes blurry as soon as the doors open.

"Wow. You really want to get away from me badly." He lets out a mirthless chuckle.

Man get off your high horse and help me to not make a scene on my first day .

The sharp pain goes through my stomach once again and I double over this time. I'm in front of the elevator squatting.

"What's wrong?". The worry that seeps from his voice covers me like a warm blanket.

I try to open my mouth to speak but the sharp pain courses through me again making me release a loud scream.

"Help! It hurts!". I'm hoisted up in his arms and he starts running.
