Chapter 2 The Girl Who Was Left Behind

Rowena's eyes darted through the shadows as she struggled against the Alpha's grip. She could still feel the lingering sting of his touch on her neck, the memory of his overwhelming presence burning her skin. Her mind raced with questions. Who was this man? Why had he taken her so quickly, without warning or reason?

But deep down, she knew that none of it mattered. It was all part of the world she had been born into-the world of wolves, where power ruled and survival was a constant fight. And for someone like her, someone who had been abandoned, rejected, and forced to live on the fringes, there was only one rule: you either fought or you were crushed.

Rowena had learned that lesson the hard way.

Growing up in the Silver Forest had been nothing like the stories told by the older wolves-the tales of family bonds and pack unity. Her childhood had been a series of memories marked by loss and sorrow. Her pack had been slaughtered when she was just a pup, a victim of a brutal raid led by a rival Alpha. Her parents had died protecting her, but in the end, their sacrifice had meant nothing. The enemy had taken everything-her pack, her home, and the safety she had once known.

She had been left behind.

Her memories of that night were blurred by the haze of grief. The smell of blood, the deafening howls of war, and the agony of seeing her family ripped apart-it was all a blur. But the image that haunted her the most was of her father's face. His lifeless eyes staring up at her as he fell, knowing that he couldn't protect her anymore.

In the days that followed, Rowena had wandered the forest, lost and alone. She had no one to turn to, no one to guide her. The packless wolves-those who had no Alpha, no Luna-were cast aside like vermin. She was a lone wolf now, and in the world of werewolves, that meant she was weak. She didn't fit in, not among the established packs who rejected her for being an outsider, nor in the wilds where she constantly fought to survive.

And yet, despite everything, there had always been a fire inside her-a determination that refused to let her be broken. She had spent years training, sharpening her senses, and learning to control her power. But it had never been enough. Not until tonight.

She stared at the Alpha's back as he walked ahead, her body tense with frustration. She had to find a way out of this. She couldn't let herself be controlled by him, not after everything she had been through. But as her gaze lingered on the powerful figure leading her through the woods, she felt the stirrings of something she hadn't expected.

Fear. But not just any fear-something deeper, a pull she couldn't ignore. His presence was overwhelming, like a magnet, drawing her in despite her resistance. The power that radiated off him was undeniable. This man was a force of nature, and for reasons she couldn't explain, she was drawn to him. Her wolf growled in frustration, pacing inside her mind, desperate for control.

The Alpha halted abruptly, turning to face her. His gaze was piercing, intense, as if he were studying her, searching for something. For a moment, they stood in silence, the moonlight filtering through the canopy above them, casting long shadows across the forest floor. The only sound was the rustling of leaves in the wind.

"I don't know who you are," Rowena said, her voice low but defiant. "But I'm not going anywhere with you."

The Alpha's lips curved into a faint smile, and he took a step closer, his presence pressing against her like an invisible weight. "You don't have a choice, little wolf," he said, his voice deep and commanding. "You belong to me now."

Rowena felt a surge of anger, her claws instinctively sharpening as she tensed. She wasn't anyone's property-not anymore. Her heart raced, and her pulse quickened, but beneath the anger, something else stirred-a strange excitement she didn't understand.

"I belong to no one," she growled, her voice stronger now. "You can't just take me."

"I can and I will," the Alpha replied calmly, his gaze never leaving hers. "You don't know it yet, but you need me. You're not as strong as you think, Rowena."

The sound of her name on his lips sent a jolt through her, and her wolf recoiled. How did he know her name? She hadn't told him. No one knew who she was-not like this. She was an outcast, a forgotten wolf with no family, no pack.

"How do you know my name?" she demanded, her voice trembling slightly despite her best efforts to keep it steady.

The Alpha's smile deepened. "I've been watching you, little wolf. I know everything about you. Your past, your weaknesses, your strengths. And most importantly, I know what you're capable of."

His words hit her like a punch to the gut. How could he know all that? How could he know the things she had tried so hard to bury?

"No one's ever cared enough to watch me," she said quietly, a bitter edge to her voice. "Not before. Not after."

The Alpha's expression softened, though only for a brief moment. "You're wrong," he said, his voice surprisingly gentle. "I see you. I see what you've become. And that's why I'm here. You're stronger than you realize, Rowena. And I can help you unlock that power."

Rowena didn't know how to respond. The words he spoke were laced with truth, but they also felt like a trap. She couldn't afford to trust anyone, not after everything she had been through. And yet, the Alpha's presence, his authority, his confidence-it stirred something deep inside her, something that longed for connection, for purpose.

"You don't need anyone," Rowena muttered, more to herself than to him. "I've learned how to survive alone."

The Alpha regarded her with a steady, calculating gaze. "Survival isn't enough. You're meant for more than just surviving, Rowena. You were born to lead."

The words hung in the air, thick with meaning. Rowena didn't know what to think. Part of her wanted to scoff, to dismiss him, but another part-a small, vulnerable part-wondered if he might be right.

"What makes you think I'll ever follow you?" she challenged, lifting her chin defiantly.

The Alpha's eyes glinted in the moonlight, his smile turning almost predatory. "Because, little wolf, you have no choice."

And with that, he turned and began walking again, leading her deeper into the unknown.

Rowena hesitated, her heart pounding in her chest. She could feel the weight of his words pressing down on her, and she realized that her life was about to change forever. But what kind of change was this? And could she survive whatever he had planned for her?

She had no answers. All she knew was that the path ahead was dark, and she had no choice but to follow him.
