Chapter 4 Avoiding The Doctor's Examination

"Quick, get Lena out of sight!" Alana addressed the staff sharply. "Make sure no Harveys see her!"

Lena's features mirrored Alana's to an unsettling degree, and it would undoubtedly raise questions if any Harveys saw her.

With her gaze lowered, Lena allowed herself to be led away.

Moments later, the visitors arrived.

At the forefront stood Dylan's mother, Reese Harvey, flanked by an entourage that radiated authority and intimidation.

Alana instantly stepped forward with a warm expression. "Reese, what a surprise! I was just planning to visit you with Dylan tonight."

Reese's sharp eyes swept over the room as she responded coolly, "I came because I heard you and Dylan spent your first night together."

She turned slightly, addressing the person behind her, "Dr. Murray, examine my daughter-in-law and determine how soon we can expect an heir."

Alana froze, her face draining of color.

She stepped back instinctively, her smile faltering. "Dylan just returned to me recently. It's too soon to expect a child, isn't it? Such matters shouldn't be rushed."

Reese's eyes locked onto her, intense and unyielding. "Dylan has a lot on his plate. If he spends his time on romance, how will he further the family business? As his spouse, it's your duty to give birth to a few heirs to support him."

Noticing Alana's hesitation, she added, "Or is there something you're not revealing?"

Alana stood silent, unsure of what to say. If Dylan's family learned that the person with Dylan the previous night wasn't her, her family's future could be in jeopardy!

"Of course not," Alana hurriedly clarified. "What exactly will Dr. Murray be doing to examine me?"

Before the doctor Joseph Murray could reply, Reese spoke sharply. "Dr. Joseph Murray has his own ways. He can determine your fertility, and if you've ever been pregnant with just a simple checkup."

Alana's face drained of color as she struggled to find words. "Dylan and I have been married for three years but haven't been close until last night. How could I have had a chance to become pregnant before?"

Had Dylan not been overseas for the past three years, she wouldn't have been looking for comfort elsewhere, nor would she be dealing with the aftermath of a miscarriage now.

An examination by Joseph would expose everything!

Her eyes darted nervously. "What if I'm on my period today? Will the examination still be possible?"

Joseph's response was cool and composed. "Don't worry. I can make a proper diagnosis regardless of your cycle."

Alana froze, panic rising. If they proceeded with the examination, the truth about her miscarriage would come to light.

Desperately, she said, "Reese, I'm feeling nauseous. May I use the restroom first? Could you and Dr. Murray wait for me?"

Reese frowned, clearly irritated. "The examination won't take long."

Alana's face turned crimson with urgency. "I'd rather not embarrass myself in front of you."

Reese scoffed, "Go ahead."

Alana quickly instructed the servants to entertain Reese, then discreetly contacted her mother to return. She hurried downstairs, rushing to the servants' quarters.

"Where is that bitch? Get her out here!"

Alana glared at the servants.

They hastily pointed to a room. "Don't worry. We've dealt with her. She's unconscious now."

Alana, in a frenzy, slapped one of the servants. "Idiot! Who told you to strike her?"

The servants stood in confusion, unable to comprehend why the typically authoritative Alana was suddenly so protective of Lena.

After all, Alana had been cruel and unforgiving toward Lena in the past.

"Get her awake, now!" Alana shouted, her voice laced with panic. "Do whatever it takes-just get her to snap out of it!"

The servants quickly grasped the urgency of the situation and hurried inside. They found Lena sprawled on the floor, unconscious, with a series of pins scattered nearby.

It was evident what kind of suffering she had endured.

After applying some swift first aid, including splashing cold water on her face, they finally succeeded in reviving Lena from her stupor.

Alana's voice was icy and commanding as she spoke. "Lena, Dylan's mother is here. You need to go upstairs and be examined by the doctor in my place!"

Lena wiped the water from her face and fixed Alana with a steady gaze.

There was something suspicious about Alana's fear.

A smirk played on Lena's lips, causing Alana's eyes to widen in fury. "You damn slut, what's that smile supposed to mean? Do you dare defy me?"
