Chapter 5 Are You Suggesting I Betrayed Dylan

"I dare not." Lena softly spoke. "But you assured me earlier that you'd stop bothering my family. Does that still apply?"

"Absolutely!" Alana replied hastily. "Now hurry and get the medical examination done for me, or your mother and brother will face the consequences!"

Hearing the same empty promise, Lena's heart sank.

She should have known better than to trust the Evans family; not a single word they uttered was reliable.

But now, she lacked the strength to resist and could only agree. "I hope you will honor your promise."

Alana, feeling a bit guilty, observed Lena and quickly instructed the servants to help her get dressed.

Once Lena was ready, Alana, anxious that Lena might cause trouble, disguised herself in a servant's attire, complete with a hat and mask, doing her best to stay unnoticed.

Following Lena, Alana muttered through clenched teeth, "Behave yourself. If the Harvey family find out anything, your mother and brother will pay the price!"

Lena gripped her fists tightly as she entered the living room.

At that moment, Juliet hurried in, conversing with Reese.

While the Evans family was powerful, they couldn't rival the Harvey family's influence. Juliet had to speak with a tone of deference.

"Reese, thank you for coming all this way to see to Alana. Actually, she has regular annual check-ups, and her health is better than most."

Juliet noticed Lena entering, followed by a masked servant, whom she quickly recognized as her daughter. She immediately realized that Lena and her daughter had swapped identities.

Reese sneered, "The exam isn't necessary if your daughter has provided a cloth with blood from her hymen as proof of her virginity. But since you arranged for the hot spring last night, preventing my family from verifying, we must confirm whether Alana was a virgin before that."

Both Juliet and Alana were stunned.

They hadn't anticipated the Harvey family to be so stringent.

Reese chuckled. "Dylan has just returned after three years; it wouldn't look good if people heard he was deceived."

Juliet's expression hardened, but before she could speak, Lena interrupted, "Are you suggesting I betrayed Dylan?"

Reese's demeanor remained icy, and Lena bit her lip. "Dylan was gone for three years, and everyone assumes I couldn't remain loyal and mocks me. But is that my fault? I'm willing to undergo the exam, but the Harvey family must make it right."

Alana and Juliet were speechless. They never imagined Lena would confront Reese. How dare she?

Juliet hastily scolded, "Alana, how can you talk to your mother-in-law like that? Pay attention to your manners!"

She shot a glare at Lena, silently signaling her to stay silent.

But Lena ignored her, continuing to focus on Reese. "If the examination shows that I have no issues and can conceive without trouble, then I expect an apology from you Harveys."

Her voice was frosty. "For three years, I never asked for an explanation from your family. Now, I won't allow my dignity to be questioned or doubted."

Alana was consumed with anxiety behind Lena.

That wretch! How dare she! If the Harvey family began their routine check-ups, with her previous miscarriage, Alana would have to let Lena take her place every time.

"Alright." Reese didn't object. Instead, she said coolly, "Dr. Murray, take your team and carry out the exam for Alana in the room."

Joseph nodded and, along with his team, set up sterilization equipment in the room and brought out various tools.

Lena was led inside.

No one from the Evans family or their servants was allowed to follow her.

Juliet and Alana anxiously waited.

Half an hour later, Joseph and the team returned.

Lena was also brought out.

Joseph reported, "Ms. Evans's uterine lining is healthy, showing no signs of prior pregnancy or miscarriage. There are some fresh signs of bleeding, likely from Mr. Harvey being too rough last night. No evidence of prior sexual activity was found."

A collective sigh of relief swept through the room.

But only Alana felt a cold sweat trickling down her back, soaking her clothes.

Joseph frowned, causing everyone to hold their breath.

Alana anxiously clutched the edge of her dress, fearing the examination might reveal more.

"However, she is undernourished, and there are bruises on her knees..."
