Chapter 5 Getting married!

Penny shrieked in horror as the wine stain spread out on her pure white, armless gown.

"What the hell!!" She yelled out. "Someone, get me a towel." She acted like she was drenched in boiling water.

Michael, who had pushed the wine, stared at her with a deadly gaze, his face flushed with rage.

"You've seen her. She is my girlfriend. Don't ever dare pry into our relationship, you godforsaken b*tch." He cursed at her as he pulled me up and dragged me out of the lounge.

We got into the car, and he drove in rage. His body seething in anger made my skin crawl. Never a day passes with me being with Michael that I won't feel like I am being killed.

We didn't come along with a driver, and my heart decided to stay in my mouth after seeing Michael driving crazily at high speed.

"What were you about to tell her?" He asked me, his gaze still on the road. " That we just started dating yesterday?" The tone of his voice was venomous.

I knew at that moment that the response I wanted to give to Penny was a foolish one. It was what made Michael enraged, and he had to prevent me from saying it by pouring the wine on Penny.

"Speak up!" He barked.

With trembling lips, I said, "No, I wanted to tell her that it was since, yes, we have been dating since. That's what I intended to tell her." I sputtered nonsense out of my mouth just to save myself.

He didn't say anything again. He kept on driving with speed, and when we got on the highway, he suddenly stopped the car.

"Get out!" He growled at me. I was puzzled, but I couldn't dare ask him why. I jumped out of his car, and he rode away, leaving me stranded.

Getting out of the car, I bent down to catch my breath, which I held in the car . I gripped my chest and sighed in relief. Thank goodness! I didn't die today.

I decided not to disturb Bessie because she went to visit my mom on my behalf. I found my way home myself.

The next day, I got to work before Michael, and getting into the company, hateful stares and silent hisses greeted me.

I could hear vague words from the ladies at the reception. They couldn't hide their resentment, and some of them spoke out.

"You betrayal!! You have been dating Boss Michael, and you hid the news from us; you also joined in wishing to have him, meanwhile, you already had him. Were you mocking us?" A female staff member said.

I was dumbfounded. "What's happening?" I asked, confused.

Another continued the accusation, "Woah! Just because she works so close to him, she decided to entice him."

"She's a slut and a gold digger. She accepted him because of his money, knowing fully well that he is a dangerous man."

I didn't know how to reply. I bowed my head in embarrassment and took the elevator to my office. My heart squeezed in pain as their words rang in my head.

A few hours later, Michael came to the office. Without settling down, he called for a general meeting.

Everyone was seated in the big room. Michael brought out a device, and he turned it on. Different voices were heard.

I remembered the voices, and I remembered the words. Those were the words from the voices of the staff who insulted me. How did Michael get to know about it?

After the device stopped playing, everyone, including me, was apprehensive; the room was so quiet that a pin drop could be heard.

Michael asked me to stand up. "Ava, point out the ones who said all those words to you." He bellowed. He wasn't asking me if I wanted to point them out; he ordered me to bring them out.

I couldn't waste his time. I did as I was told, and I showed them to him.

With a sharp and menacing voice, he thundered, "You are all fired!!" He announced it to the shock of everyone.

"No one has the right to talk to anyone that I call mine. Ava is mine, and you all have overstepped your boundaries by calling her names. I won't deal with such insolence. Leave my company!!" He commanded.

"The meeting is over for the rest of you." He dismissed everyone and left for his office.

I was taken by surprise by Michael's reaction to the insults thrown at me.

Michael had just said that I was his, and he fired his staff for my sake.

Unbelievable!

He wasn't bad after all. I was his for the time being, and no one could mess with me. After that incident, everyone accorded me the same respect Michael received.

A month later, Michael went on a business trip without me, and he left me in charge of everything.

The hall was grand. Everywhere was shining so brightly as different lights shone and beautified the hall.

Penny Douglas was about to get married. After what Michael did to her, she didn't disturb him again, and she continued her modeling, getting more famous.

It was announced on TV that she was about to wed. Different wedding invitations were sent to top companies, and Lucas Corporation, Michael's company, was at the top among the famous companies, so we were given the first invitation card.

I tried calling Michael to ask for his permission, but his line wasn't going through. I decided to honor Penny Douglas, who had given an order that it was important that every staff member attend her wedding.

Bessie refused to miss the wedding for anything. "He won't kill you when he finds out that you made everyone attend the wedding. You were ordered to come, not like you begged for her to invite you." She said, making me see reasons why I must go to the wedding.

I'll explain to Michael when he gets back from his trip.

As the staff members of an important CEO, we were treated with respect and care. We were ushered to a high table where we could have a view of everything that would be going on.

The ceremony began, and Penny Douglas walked into the hall dressed in a beautiful white flowery gown, looking so angelic. As she walked down the aisle, a flash of cameras blinded her. She was absolutely gorgeous.

The groom stood on the left side of the pastor at the altar, which was a bit far from where the guest sat.

Getting to the altar, the media men focused their cameras on the people at the altar, and the face of the groom was clearly visible to the guests.

My heart jumped out of my heart, followed by the gasp of everyone as our stares were fixed on no other person than Michael Lucas, Penny Douglas's groom and husband-to-be.
