Chapter 3 How he discovered that she lied.

"How was the surgery, Bessie?" I asked anxiously. "My mom is still alive, right?"

"Of course, she is. The surgery went well. She is still in a deep sleep, it will take some time before she wakes up." Bessie said.

"Thank you so much, Bessie. You are a lifesaver." I thanked Bessie profusely till I was almost shedding tears.

Her plan had worked. She took my phone from me and sent the account number to Michael, changing the five hundred thousand dollars to a million dollars. I objected, but she was deaf to my refusal. "Let's charge him for rough sex; he hurt you, didn't he?"

I was at work, so I wasn't able to go to the hospital to support my mom. Bessie assisted me.

Riiiiiing... My office telephone rang.

I put Bessie on hold and answered the call. It was Michael.

I freezed on my seat and listened to what he said. " I need your attention in my office."

"He wants me in his office. I told Bessie, who was still on the call.

"Why? Then go and see him in his office. Why is your voice shaking? Deny everything he asks you. He can't find out; if he had found out, he wouldn't have sent the money." Bessie said, trying to raise my hopes of Michael not finding out.

I got into Michael's spacious office, and I met him standing close to the window, staring at nothing in particular.

"Where were you last night?" He asked without facing me.

His sudden question caught me off guard. I was confused about what to say. Bessie's voice played again in my head, telling me to deny everything.

"I was at my apartment. Anything Sir?" I asked him to take his attention away from me.

He turned to me, gazing deeply at me. His piercing eyes struck me as a heavy burden of guilt blocked my chest. He repeated his question, using his eyes to pin me down.

I still stood by my words. "I was at my apartment." I said again, with trembling lips.

"I see. Now, let's get to the reason why I called you. I am feeling bored, and as my personal secretary, I think it will be so good if we do some things together, won't it?" He asked, giving me a look that said I couldn't say no, it was an order, said sarcastically.

I slowly nodded my head, and he led me to the sofa beside the window. Michael was behaving weird. This is the first time in my four years working for Michael that I will be sitting on his sofa.

My heart was thumping, my palm was all sweaty and itchy, and my stomach added to the discomfort I was feeling because it kept on rumbling, making it seem I needed to use the toilet, but I didn't have the mind to take an excuse.

Michael took out his phone and sat down with me. His cologne was really strong, and it exuded a pleasant fragrance. I felt like drawing closer to him and having him hug me the way he did last night, but I wasn't so stupid to try that.

"Okay, Ava, what do we have here to watch? Let's go for this movie, 'How He Discovered She Lied." He said this, squinting his eyes and making a strange chuckle.

I had never heard a movie title like that. I just sat motionlessly, waiting to see the new movie.

Michael clicked play, and the movie began. My soul left my body when I saw a lady dressed in an armless black shiny dress with white high heels who styled her hair in a bun, leaving some strands to fall. I would confess the lady was beautiful, but that same beautiful lady was me walking into Michael's room last night.

The video played all that transpired the previous night and how I left the room in a hurry after Michael had laid back on the bed. It also showed how I left for the hotel reception and cleaned away the makeup I wore, fully revealing that I was the one.

Sitting down on that sofa, there was no life in me. I had already prayed for my soul, already wished for my mom to have a better life without her daughter, and I had already told Bessie how much I loved her in my mind.

The video ended, and Michael turned to face me with a satisfying smile on his face.

"Wow!! That video was so interesting, wasn't it?"

My face had turned white; I couldn't feel my blood rushing; everything inside of me had become numb.

Michael was tormenting me mentally. He wanted the fear to paralyze me, and the fear succumbed to his desires because I was already paralyzed.

"Ava, do you have a twin I don't know about?" He started.

I didn't respond.

"Don't make me repeat my question." He warned in a calm voice.

I shook my head in denial. "Speak out!" He roared at me.

I jumped to my feet in fright. I was already crying. The tears rushed in torrents. "No, sir, I don't have a twin. I am the one in that video." I revealed it without wasting any time. I didn't wait to be asked again if I was the lady.

"Oh no, you're not the one. You told me you were in your apartment last night, didn't you? Did another person steal your identity?" He questioned.

Gosh! I couldn't answer his questions. My dress clung to my body as a result of the sweat that was dripping out like water, rushing out of the tap, from my head down to my toes.

Michael dropped his gaze from my face down to my body. He scanned my breast, which was visible in the shirt, and dragged his eyes to my flat stomach.

"How dare you touch me, Ava? How dare you get so intimate with me!!" He barked out, his face so scarlet with fury.

My legs were also afraid. They were shaking. I was very weak. Unable to continue standing, I crumbled to the floor, waiting for my death sentence.

"I will end your life!! but before I do that, you will finish what you started by Becoming My Girlfriend."
