I slumped into my chair and gave out a deep exhale. Since the day I've been told about my grandad's will, I haven't been myself. I didn't know what to do. But I had to do something. I sat there in my office, staring blankly into the ceiling. Out of boredom, I began shuffling through the files on my desk. I was into it for just a few seconds when I came across a file on my desk. It was the most recent contract deal I had with another company. An idea suddenly struck me, my face lit up and I felt a bit of relief inside me.
I had finally gotten a lead on what to do. The only thing left was who it would be. I didn't have someone in mind, but that was the only way out I could think of in this situation.
"Hey, Alfonso, meet me in my office, ASAP." I hung up the office line and slumped back into my seat and gave a deep sigh.
I needed to take today off and think straight.
"Sir, you called," Alfonso said as he walked into my office.
"I'm taking the day off, I need rest." I said to him.
"But we have some unfini...."
"No buts." I cut him off midway.
"Heyyy, sweetie." I said to Tracy as she rushed to hug me when I got back from work. She was over excited to see me come back from work so early.
"How was work, sir?" Stella asked as she collected my briefcase from me.
"You're somehow way earlier than usual today," she asked, showing concern.
"I wanted to take the rest of the day off," I said.
"Are you two going somewhere?" I asked, I noticed they were about moving out when I came in.
"Yeah, I'm going to see my best friend, '' Tracy said, smiling at me. Her eyes shone with joy as she spoke about this best friend of hers.
"Your best friend?" I asked, thinking who that was.
Oh, I remember now, the pretty lady at the ice cream store. I had almost forgotten about her, what was her name again? Emily, I think.
She didn't look like someone who was below her 20s, if I'm correct she should be over 25 years. That was my daughter's best friend, a lady old enough to be her mom.
Then another idea hit me.
"Why don't you ladies wait for me and let me drive you there, we can get some ice creams while coming back." I asked them.
"But sir, you just got back from work now." Stella told me
"You need to rest." She added.
"No, it's fine, I'll go with you guys." I said, showing her I already decided to go.
"You two go on ahead, I'll catch up soon," I said to Stella as we halted in the parking lot nearby.
I wanted to do some analysis before going in. Stella got down with Tracy and I could see from inside the car the speed at which Tracy ran to hug her so-called best friend.
I didn't realize I was smiling, seeing Tracy smile at Emily was giving off this mother and daughter vibe. I felt somewhat relieved inside. I had decided on what I would do. Now I just had to start making moves, I was a person who would never waste time on things.
I walked into the store and looked around, I saw Tracy, Stella and Emily sitting down in a corner, gistingband laughing happily.
Emily was beside Tracy and Stella sat opposite them. I smiled as I watched my daughter laugh happily. I looked at Emily and felt this weird feeling in me, I quickly removed my mind from her face and straightened myself up.
As I walked up to their table, Emily looked up and the wind from the opened window blew her hair. She was pretty, I'd give her that.
"Permit me to join you, ladies." I said as I took my seat near Stella.
I looked at Emily sitting right in front of me and gave her nod.
"Heyy"
Her face formed into something like she was disgusted at me but trying to hide it.
Was it because I said hey?
Like I care about what she thinks is right or wrong.
"I'm Emily," she said.
"Oh, my bad, I forgot your name."
Emily pov.
How can a man make a woman irritated in a short period of time, he just got here right now and I'm getting pissed off.
Who the hell addresses a lady with a nod and hey?
I tried hard not to show my disgust at him, but I was sure he'd notice it, I didn't want to ruin the moment. And besides, Tracy was sitting right beside me. So I had to play it cool.
"I'm Emily." I said to him bluntly.
"Oh, my bad, I forgot your name." he said without any form of remorse in his tone.
Wish I had a gun right now, I said to myself. I'd have blown up his skull.
