"Hey miss, grant me the permission to walk you out." I looked back and saw Alfonso catching up to me. He was smiling happily.
"Thanks, Alfonso, that's so kind of you," I said while smiling back at him.
"But you don't have to bother, I don't think I need an escort." I said to him, Whatever news and meeting I had with Zach had spoiled my mood completely and I had no strength to smile.
Getting home, I met my mom sleeping on the couch, she must've been tired from the work she's doing to gather money.
I was happy her stress was going to come to an end soon, the contract had saved us a lot of stress, but if my mom knew about me risking my happiness to be able to save my brother, she wouldn't be completely happy with me.
I looked at the time, it was a few minutes before I was to resume my third job, I wasn't going to need it anymore, so there wasn't any for me to go.
I dropped my bag on the couch in my room and fell on my bed, lost in thought. My life was taking a turn. A very big turn. I tried my best not to overthink it. But I just couldn't. It was hard. Tears were almost dropping from my eyes.
I sat up, thinking about where I could hide the file that no one would notice. I noticed somewhere I could hide it that not even Elizabeth would notice.
It wasn't long before I closed my eyes and dozed off.
I woken up by a call from Zach, I picked it and the next thing I heard was,
"Meet me in 30 mins, I'll forward you the address." He said.
"30 mins?" I was surprised, why does he have to be so bossy. Does he think I'm working under him?
"You've got any problem with that?" He asked me.
I felt myself boiling inside of me, I'd definitely shoot this guy in the leg if I was given the chance to.
I let out a deep sigh.
"No, I don't." I answered him, having no strength to speak to him further.
"Good, so we meet in 30 mins, wear something nice, we're going somewhere nice." He said and hung up.
I sank into my bed, and stared into the ceiling, my mind was in a race, I couldn't even think straight.
I checked the time, it was exactly 4:00, I had to meet him by 4:30
Is this what I'm going to have to accept for two years?
I'll find my way around it, I assured myself.
In a few minutes, I was done and ready to meet Zach, I already had the address with me, I didn't bother calling him to let him know I was coming.
Zach pov
I sat down waiting for Emily to show up, it wasn't in my nature to be late for a meeting, given that I was the one who gave the time we would meet.
I looked at my watch and checked the time, I was a few minutes before 4:30, I sat down and took a sip from the drink in front of me.
I looked up and saw Emily walking majestically towards me, I knew I told her to dress nice, but this was beyond nice. It was Glorious. She looked very pretty even in a simple gown.
I quickly woke myself up from the trance I was in, so she wouldn't notice I was admiring her.
Was I admiring her? Hell no!
I couldn't get distracted. Not here. Not ever.
I saw her notice me from afar and walking towards me. I maintained my cool as she every step she took brought her closer to where I was seated.
"Hey." She said as she got to where our table was. Her eyes scanned me and midway our eyes met. I looked at her and smiled.
"Nice of you to keep up to time, didn't expect you to catch up fast, love." I said, teasing her a little. She gave no attention whatsoever to my tease.
"Would you please not address me as love?" I smiled at her response. She was trying to be tough.
Does she think I fancy calling her love? I was just being a good actor, if anything, I'd still keep up this act for two years.
"You'd eventually have to get used to it." I said, now I had to get serious, no teasing again.
"Did you go through the contract thoroughly?" I asked her as she sat down, she looked at me and shook her head. Her blue eyes searching mine as if she was expecting something to burst out of my eye.
Seeing her sit up close, I could finally notice her beauty. The orange sunset light hitting her skin gave it a glow that I hadn't notice on a lady's skin in a long time. She looked very innocent. Her lips had a very nice curve that could tempt even the devil himself to want to have a taste.
"So," I brought out the contract file that was with me and placed it in front of her. "You'll be getting a job in the company and you'll be paid, you'll have to relocate to my place in the next 3 weeks and our wedding will be in 3 months after you relocate to my place."
"Then the marriage will continue for a year and 9 months, and in the 10th month, we file for divorce and we can both go our separate ways." I said and paused, allowing her to assimilate everything I had said.
"Why do I have to move into your place in 3 weeks?" She asked me, still frowning in her face.
"Can't you just rent an apartment for me so I can stay separately?" She asked again, not giving me a chance to answer her first question.
I took a deep breath in.
"What kind of couples don't live under the same roof?" I asked her.
"We have to make this look real, for both our sakes." I added.
"Why did you choose me for this?" She asked not minding everything I had said since. She was keeping a very straight face. "You could have asked anyone else who would be interested to do that for you."
I gave off a deep sigh.
"I needed someone I could trust with my daughter, someone she's free with, and you were the only one I could take note of," I paused to allow her swallow my words. "She needed a mother figure and I noticed you two really got along." I looked at her face to see if there was going to be any reaction or whatsoever.
"So you mean you'd put your daughter through another hell, because of your business?" She stated angrily. "She's suffered from not having a mother figure and you're trying to bring one into her life only for it to disappear after 2 years?"
I could sense her anger from where I was seated. I never planned on causing Tracy pain at all.
"I'm not hurting her, but I've made up my mind and besides, you've signed the contract, nothing can be done." I said sternly, stopping myself from being emotional.
"We'll figure something out before then." I stood up and picked my keys.
"I'll drive you home."
