Chapter 5 The Plot for Freedom

The next morning Gabrielle still in prison sat, hoping for Maria's guards to arrive the suspense was killing him. But just then he saw an officer who winked at removed his fake beards, he smiled when he saw who it was. When Gabrielle smiled, his men knew it was time for action.

One of his men drank the poison that had being given to him earlier, he drank and his body shivered, Gabrielle jumped up and shook the prison bars.

"Help!, help!, someone is dying!.". The officers turned towards his cell, and saw his inmate, rolling on the floor with foam in his mouth.

They ran, and opened the cell.

Gabrielle quickly took the key that was dangling in the back pocket of the officer.

And the drama began, Gabrielle

went to the bathroom, he hit the officer in charge on the back of his head and he fell.

Gabrielle wore his uniform and escaped leaving his men behind which was not part of the plan.

As soon as he got out of the door, he got into the cab that was assigned to take him home.

His men waited, and lost hope, they regretted helping a chameleon like him.

The inmate whom they poisoned, was taken to the hospital, he rolled and cradled his abdomen in pain, the antidote was not working, he died.

"What do you mean he escaped?."

Danielle's heart was filled with horror, he got up from his chair.

The officers drove fear into his heart, he sat down, the aftermath of Gabrielle's escape would be fatal, disastrous.

He needed to warn Desmond.

"I got a call, Gabrielle has escaped, you should come live with us."

Desmond could not reply, Gabrielle was standing right in front of him, a gun placed gently on his forehead.

"I see Danielle has become fond of you!, I am giving you one more chance, you have betrayed me twice, but I am a good man."

"What do you want from me?." Desmond replied weakly.

"Very good, accept his offer, my wife's diary, is in that murderers hands, get it for me."

Desmond nodded.

Danielle walked restlessly on his balcony, he needed to sort things out with Gabrielle for Maria's sake.

Perhaps he should turn himself in and pay for his crimes.

"What crimes?." Maria asked him.

Danielle stared at her for a while, he saw the questions clearly written in her eyes.

"When my father was alive, he made me do many terrible things, which I now regret, the memories torment me."

Maria walked up to him and made him sit down, she sat on his laps, and played with his hair.

"You are a good person, always tell yourself that."

Danielle was about to respond, but Maria's kisses silenced him, he placed his hand on her neck, as she kissed him continuously.While Gabrielles men pondered on there masters betrayal, the echoes of inmate chatter, only annoyed them. They stood in line for food, as they watched the officer fill his spoon with what was supposed to be there breakfast, a lumpy, slimy looking meal,they stared at each other. They had no choice but to eat, just swallow don't chew, someone advised them.

Desmond agreed to Gabrielle's orders.

"Hold on, don't go there looking too sad, and yes one more thing, if you betray me again, I will end your suffering, my own way."

Desmond walked dejectedly to Danielle's house, he did not take a cab.

His head bent low, it started raining, he fell on his knees.

He wept aloud, calling his daughters name.

Gabrielle knew Desmonds daughter was his only weakness, and that was why he faked her death.

"Let me go!, why are you tormenting me?."

Gabrielle walked into the building, still on the officers uniform, his cigarette in his mouth.

"That's enough!, let her go."

Maria's thoughts were troubled, she felt like a traitor. She missed her father. She decided to visit him, without informing Danielle.

"I knew you couldn't stay away from me!."

Maria was not comfortable with this visit, she was going to make it quick.

"I only came to check on you, and I will be on my way."

Gabrielle smiled. He decided that this was the perfect time.

"Do you know that Danielle is not as pure as you think."

Maria instantly regretted coming to see him, yet he continued.

"His father was the reason behind our suffering."

Maria slowly walked away from him.

"Hey, I am talking to you!."

Maria stopped and turned around.

"You should be grateful that I did not give your location to the police, you fugitive."

Gabrielles eyes widened what spell did Danielle's love cast on his daughter that made her turn against her own family.

He then noticed the baby in her hand, he shouted.

"Whose child is that?!, hey, whose child is that."

Maria did not give a reply, she silently got into her car.

Getting home she saw Desmond and Danielle sitted together, she felt terrible.

She had become the daughter of a murderer.

"He will be living with us till Gabrielle is found and arrested."

Danielle explained to Maria, when she got close to them.

She went inside silently.

"I'm curious, how did you two meet, how did you two know each other."

Danielle smiled.

"We met in high school, it was love at first sight, I did not know who her father was, neither did she know mine.

By the time we did, it was too late,

we were already in love.

And I refuse to let her go."

Desmond nodded, he himself wanted to know what the diary holds.

"Do you have a library, I want to read."

Danielle showed him the way.

Instead of going to the library he went to Maria.

"Don't you feel ashamed?, your father is trying to ruin that innocent man's life.

And you sit here doing nothing,

why don't we work together and end your father's reign of terror.

Or do you love him too much."

Maria chose not to reply, she focused on the baby, her son/ stepbrother.

"Is this the library?." Danielle asked.

"I wanted to have a word with her." Desmond replied.

"You can do whatever you want to in this house, but I don't want to see you talking to her in private."

Maria smiled.

Desmond searched endlessly for the diary in the library, when he suddenly stumbled on something else.
