Maxwell
I love my work, but sometimes it takes the life out of me, and sometimes I have to fake being sick to get a day for myself in this case I took two days and I'm glad I did because I met the most handsome guy I had ever seen, I had sex with him and I accidentally turned him into a werecat which is strange because I never thought that was remotely possible.
Which means we're destined to be together, and he's my soulmate, my wildcat wants him bad, and I agree with him. David Ramirez is hot as fuck.
I bet he would love me in a suit and a tie. I walk into the company and I'm greeted by the workers here as my assistant Macy Abrams gives me the schedule for the day.
"You have a meeting with Armani products by twelve, and you have to talk about the Halloween ad with Graziers, you also have lunch with the CEO of Red Ruby Wine to discuss on how they should go with a new model to advertise their wine or an old one. Oh, but before that you have a meeting with your uncle."
Ah, Macy what am I going to do without her, she's extra hardworking and I'm surprised that she decided to be my assistant even after Dad died. I thought she would leave, but she's loyal to my father, loyal to this company.
I try my best to respect her because she's older than me and also she respects me so the respect has to be reciprocated. She's a stunning woman in her early thirties, she's thirty-one, I think.
She's blond she reminds me of Barbie or Taylor Swift with her electric blue eyes and Cupid's bow lips. And she's tall, not taller than me but she's still taller than most women here and she always gets the job done.
She inspires and motivates me.
"Thank you so much, Macy," I say to her.
"No need to thank me. How are you feeling?"
I simply put on a small smile. "I feel good now Macy."
"You sure, you don't want me to book an appointment with your doctor?" we both open the door to my office and we see Sara sitting on my chair with her legs on the table. "No no need for that Macy, you can excuse us now."
"Sure," she says leaving.
"Bye, Macy." Macy closes the door and now it's just me and my older sister. "Using the sickness card to get out of work when you naturally can't fall sick?" Sara asks. "You're a liar."
"I just needed time for myself Sara, get out of my chair." Sara places her legs on the ground and looks at me in shock.
"Time to for yourself. But how did you find yourself in a bar, and how did you find yourself fucking someone and then turning them into a werecat?"
"It was all last minute," I say to her annoyed. She stands from my seat and walks away from the chair. She's smiling at me and I knew after yesterday she's not going to let this go at all. That's just how she is, my older sister who loves to be involved in my life. She's been protecting me for years and she wanted to kill Victor after breaking my heart but I stopped her. If only that asshole knew that she brought out her sharp clubs to gut him.
She owns a hotel in Manhattan Sars. And it's thriving. Dad was proud of her before he died. He wishes his father could see her now.
"I can't believe my little brother has found his mate." she shakes her head. "It's so cute, I'm so excited I'm excited for you." she says smiling and sitting on the table. "but I have questions, how did you do something that werecats who fell in love with humans have been trying to do for centuries and who are those people that want your mate dead?"
"You act like I know the answers to all those questions," I say sitting on my chair.
"I know, she says. It was worth a try," she says that last part in a sad tone, I'm sure she's thinking about Dad. Her voice usually changes when she talks about her dad. So do I. I can't believe anyone would kill him, he was harsh and very bossy but the old man didn't deserve to die.
Up till now, no one knows who those people are, no one knows how they formed the weapon to kill werecats and make them go extinct. It's not the werewolves, our mortal enemies, but we're not ruling out the possibility of it being them. They've been our only enemies for years and they are capable of anything.
"So what do you think these people want with David, there has to be a reason why they're going after him and none of us." Says Sara and I look away, cringing at the possibility that they might hurt him. I just got my mate and they want to take him away from me? Hell no! Not on my watch.
"I don't know who those people are or why they killed Dad and want David dead but I do know that we have to protect him."
"Oh, I know that look, that's the less friendly Max look that always shows up when you want to hurt anyone who wants to hurt your family." Sara points out and I wasn't even aware I was pulling up that look. "I like it. I like that side of you that will claw a fuckers eye out for the people you love." I am willing to kill anyone if they hurt the people I care about, that's the whole thing about being a lion, we protect our pride.
"Anyways, I have to go I have a lunch date with Michael," she says headed toward the door ready to go see her fiance.
"Say hi to him for me."
"I will," she says opening the door, but someone is already in the way, I almost groan at the sight of him.
"Uncle," Sara says in a greeting.
"Sara," he replies and then Sara leaves as fast as possible, even if she doesn't like him. I used to like him but I saw him for who he truly was. A hot-tempered animal that will do anything to get what he wants. I used to have so much respect for him until the day Dad's will was read and it was known that he had made me CEO instead of him. He threw a tantrum, insulting everyone and calling me names. A spoilt brat that has no idea how to run a company.
Uncle Darius and I used to be close but not anymore, he never cared about me or my dad he only cared about power. If anything I'm not ruling him out as my father's murderer.
He's a tall man with long hair, a full beard, light brown skin and light brown eyes. He has a scar on his left eye due to a fight with a werewolf. People wonder why that scar has never healed. That's one of the many mysteries that is Darius Sharaf. He's married to Aunt Carol who is so much better than him and more tolerable but they don't have kids yet.
I know this might sound harsh, but I hope he doesn't. Those poor kids are going to end up suffering in his hands.
"Hello, Nephew," he says and I let out a sigh.
"Hello, uncle. What do you want now?" I can't believe it because I used to talk to this man with so much respect but now I just see him as a freeloader. I have no respect for him anymore.
"What? So I can't come to ask why my nephew's lying to the board that he's sick. You and I both know we don't fall sick."
"I just needed a day to myself. It's no big deal." I roll my eyes. And he looks at me in disbelief.
"Boy, may I remind you that you run a company now. This isn't some college party. This is a real firm that needs good leaders to take it forward."
"Oh, and that leader would be you?"
"I see why not."
I scoff. "You're an opportunist." I stand and I head toward the bottle of whiskey.
"That's how you win the game nephew." I pour myself a glass and I drink. I don't bother looking at him.
"Look, nephew, I only want what's best for you. I don't want to control you or anything. I'm looking out for you."
"Sure you are." I simply say, I still don't look at him. There's silence and I hope the silence takes it that he leaves. And he does.
"I'll be in my office if you need me," he says but before he leaves he leaves his hand on the door handle looking at me and thinking about how insane I am and how I'm not fit to do anything in this life.
He finally leaves.
Jokes on him, because I'm going to show him and everyone in this company what I'm capable of.
"Macy!" I yell her name and she gets here in time. "Set up all the meetings, we're going to have a busy day today," I say, she nods and then walks out of the office.
