Chapter 10 Ten

Maxwell

It's nine-thirty pm and I'm done with work for the day. As soon as I close up and walk out of the office I spot David in front of the office, saying hi to some of the workers. I furrow my brows confused as to what he's doing here but I smile, then I walk toward him.

"Oh, hi there you are. You know the strangest thing just happened. I wanted to see you but I didn't know how because I didn't know where you worked but somehow I ended up here and here you are." he says trying hard not to freak out. "This is part of the mate bond thing isn't it?" He asks and I nod my head.

"Wow, this is cool and strange at the same time." he looks me up and down. "You look fancy," he says. And I knew David would love me in a suit. I try my best not to blush.

"Thank you, but what are you doing here? Did something happen? Are you okay?"

"Well, if you don't train me on how to be a werecat then something's going to happen to me," he says in a whisper and I almost smack my head with my hand because I forgot.

"You forgot," he says, he sounds disappointed but not disappointed at the same time.

"I'm so sorry David."

"It's okay, you have your job and everything. I'll just- I'll just leave."

"No!" I stop him from walking away by grabbing his hand. He looks at the hand and then at my face. Our eyes stare at each other like we're seeing each other for the first time. I can stare into his eyes for hours and not get bored because I'm looking at perfection. A painting made by a professional and I'm lucky enough to be in the same world as him.

I look at my car and then back at him.

"Come on, our training begins now," I say still holding his hand, he holds mine but tightly this time and we walk across the street.

We find ourselves on top of New York's very tall buildings after jumping from building to building. I barely do stuff like this anymore before last time I did this, I made the news. But no one knew that it was me or could pinpoint what was jumping from building to building like a spider monkey.

And that happened when I was seventeen, I haven't done that since. And doing it now makes me feel like a teenager again. And this time I'm doing it with my handsome mate.

"Whoa! I love doing that!" David says excitedly, ready to jump to another building but we have to begin our study. We both stand next to each other looking down at the people driving. The city that never sleeps has lots of people who are going about their night. Some go to work, some leave work and some go to a club where they're going to meet the love of their life.

I turn over to David thinking he's looking at the cars and the people but he isn't, he's looking at me.

"What?" I ask smiling and he just turns away from me.

"I still can't believe all this is happening to me. How did I get here? How did I end up becoming a supernatural creature? Doesn't it freak you out?"

I shrug. "I was born this way remember?"

"Oh, of course. I forgot you're used to it." David sits and I join him.

"I've always wanted to know what it'd be like to be human though," I say, to have a normal life, to not turn into a beast during the crescent moon, to not have all these senses and to just be normal. I have fantasized about that life for a long time.

"Being human is good, but also boring," he says. "This, everything's so new to me. It's like entering a whole new world. The strong hearing, the strength, the flexibility and the eyesight which I love by the way." I look at him after he emphasized so much about loving the eyesight.

"Don't ask," he says and I giggle and so does he. "You miss your dad don't you?"

I sigh. "He was tough but he was still my father, and I miss him so much. He left this company and I have to do all I can to make him proud. There's a reason why he gave me this company, he believed in me."

"Did he not believe in your older sis?" Angelo asks smiling and I cackle.

"Sarah hates marketing. She just loves to own things, not advertise them she's been like that since she was a kid and Dad knew that about her. I think he even asked her how she would feel about running the company and she told him no." I shake my head at how many times I've laughed every time my sister would do something I never expected her to do.

"She's the bold one amongst the two of us."

"So you guys don't have any other siblings?"

"Nope, it's just the two of us."

"What about your mom?"

I gave David a look with a smile on my face. "Are we here to teach you how to be a werecat or are you going to be asking me questions about my life."

"Yes, but I figured since we're soulmates and everything I want to get to know you."

"Okay, then. So yeah my mom's still alive. She's a strict woman even more strict than my dad. And she barely smiles it's almost like she hates us and her life. But she doesn't, she loves us in her way. She didn't even cry when she found out our dad died. Or maybe she did but just didn't want to show it."

"Wow, tough lady."

"I know right? Then I have this uncle whom I used to love but now I hate because he hates me cause my dad chose me to be the CEO of the company and not him."

"Your family's intense."

"Tell me about it," I say shaking my head. I'm so glad that I'm not the only child because I don't know if I would have lived if I was the only child, I would have killed myself nine times. "What about you, are your family members as twisted as mine."

"Well." he squeezes his face. "They're supportive, extra supportive. I got my love for parties because of them. They met at a party, a college party. They're nice and they've always teased me about my dreams of living in New York but they still supported the idea and they always encouraged me to reach for the stars."

"Wow, can we switch family members?" I ask and he laughs, and his laugh is so cute. I could listen to it all day, I could set it as my ringtone.

"At least you have your sister."

"Yeah, but what about you, have any siblings?"

"Nah, an only child."

"So you got all of Mommy and Daddy's attention."

"Yep, it was annoying at times, but I know why they did that. I love them so much, even though I don't admit it all of the time."

"I'm sure, you do and don't get me wrong, I love my mom and uncle but sometimes they can be a bit..."

"Much, I understand," he says looking at me, not at my lips. It looks like he wants to kiss me and I want to let him. So I make the first move by leaning closer to him. I'd like to believe he's doing the same thing.

"Aww." I stop when we both hear someone else is here. I look around to see where the voice came from and so does David.

David gasps and points at the air and I turn around to see what he's pointing at and holy shit!

It's a large bird mutant thing. I don't know what it is but it looks vicious. And it looks ready to kill us.
