Chapter 5 Embarrassed

Audra -

My face was being puffed with steam when I woke up. I prayed that when my eyes opened, my lovely white dragon would be hunching over me. His blue eyes pierced my soul. "Time to eat breakfast and leave if we want to be there on time." He laid his big head across my whole lower torso.

"How do you expect me to get up if you are laying on me!" I touch him on the nose and say this with a hint of hyperbole.

He groaned and lifted his head away from me after blowing out a blast of smoke. "You need to eat, so it's a painstaking sacrifice I have to make." He raised his head, but while he pouted, he kept it near to the earth. I leaped from my bed. The fastest bedtime I've ever experienced in my life. I couldn't wait for today to arrive. Dating indeed impacts your life.

"Tell me a story over breakfast!" I said, bringing out my chair and taking a seat.

He had returned to his human form. "A narrative? Which kind are you interested in hearing?" With his back to me, he spoke.

"Before you begin, wait. Which would you rather be, a person or a dragon?" Because I was born into the human body, I found it easier to maintain.

He shrugged his shoulders and said, "It depends on who I'm with." I would never reveal my human form to someone I don't trust if it were near them. It is an indication of moral apathy." Does that imply that he believes me? Naturally, he did, as I was his partner. Was it possible for someone to lose interest in their partner? The thought made my heart tighten.

"Mortal weakness?" I asked, observing his facial features and musculature. Not long later, I noticed his jaw tighten.

There was a lull before I could say, "Please-" I noticed that he was clenching and unclenching his hands. "Don't give me that look. It really is teasing." At last, he made out. I could not stop my face from getting red.

"Oh," Like a fish gasping, my mouth was wide open. After that, I thought the wall was quite interesting. I mumble, "Sorry." I was simply so accustomed to it even though I knew he didn't want me to apologize and that wasn't his goal. I'm used to taking the blame.

"Hey, I'm sorry for raising my voice." He is a saint if that was him raising his voice. He expressed it in the most natural and adult way I've ever seen-through a book, no less! "I'm just a newly mated male, I'm just finding it a bit difficult, but not an impossible to cope with."

"Ah! I get it! There's no need to say sorry!" I hastily waved my hands, like I was attempting to brush his apologies off. In front of me, he sat the toast and eggs.

He had a lopsided smile on his face, which likely meant that he was still upset with me but was also relieved that I wasn't angry with him. "So, we are ready to leave after breakfast, yes?"

I gave a head nod. Indeed! I am excited to meet your pal!" First person I've met on this adventure who isn't my mate! I was giddy with anticipation!

-

He made breakfast for me, so once breakfast was completed, I helped wash the dishes and make the bed. I could not afford to do nothing but hang out with him while he hosted me. I'm not sure if "hosting" is the appropriate word in this context.

At the cave mouth, he was once again in the shape of a dragon. Before going over to Vince, I slid the bag that had been placed by the bed leg onto my shoulders. He gazed out over the endless forest of trees while I watched. He exuded serenity and contentment, evidently content with his existence.

His eyes moved toward me as soon as he sensed my gaze. "Are you ready, my love?"

I gave a head nod. I looked at it in confusion as he dipped a wing down. "What?" Almost in a trance, I asked.

"Taking the flying route will make it faster. Is everything okay?" He pivoted his enormous frame to confront me directly. This was a decision, and I enjoyed having it.

"I'm not sure whether I'm afraid of heights. I had never before left the ground." I continued, studying his back and enormous wings with curiosity.

"There has to be a first for everything." He smiled, a toothy grin emerging. Even though his teeth were extremely sharp-dangerous even-I wasn't afraid.

"Where do I even grab on to?" His stunning spiral horns caught my attention, but they were too far away to grasp. No, that's right-they are undoubtedly grabbingable.

"You seemed to answer your question, come, hop on." He drops his wing again and continues to crawl. I encircled the horns around my hands.

"You're in capable hands. Audra, don't be afraid." My legs became almost too thick to fit around his neck as I tightened them.

He then raised himself into the air.

I tried to shield my face from the wind by burying my head in his scales while I yelled in terror. After we leveled off, I said to Audra, "Look, you are missing it."

One of the things I want to avoid doing is missing. Not any longer. I looked up to see the gorgeous light and a lucid bluebird soaring overhead. My passion for the sensation of flight began. I felt almost like I was the one flying when I raised my arms. Though I nearly flew off him, so I soon regretted my choice. I grabbed his horns and held on to them tightly.

"Almost became one with the birds, is that right, Audra?" he laughed, and I heard him laugh.

"Sush Vince, I don't want to think back to it." I was so embarrassed that my cheeks burned.

"Just a little longer and we will be there." I made a pool of fat beneath my face by resting the side of my face on his scales. I was really happy with my life.

I had no idea that this was going to be the quiet before the storm.
