Chapter 4 Excitement

Audra

He was sitting beside me, regaining his human shape, and we were both enjoying the soup he had warmed up. We are staring at each other nonstop and neither of us wants to look away.

I said, "So," not sure what I wanted to talk about, but I wanted to learn everything there was to know about the dragon that was standing across from me.

"Are dragons just really big snakes?" After blowing on my soup a few times to cool it down, I said and took a drink.

He raised his palm to his mouth to stop the soup from spitting everywhere, and I noticed his eyes widen. Upon swallowing, he started to cough violently. I got up and pushed my chair back. "Are you okay?!"

I have never witnessed such behavior. I had no idea what to do. Did he hurt at all? Why was I unable to assist him? For some strange reason, he pounded his chest and waved me off with his hand. Was he attempting to open his airways?

"Yes, Yes, I'm fine." He waved once more and wiped everything away with the collar of his shirt. "And to answer your question, yes and no."

"Yes and no? That's not even a response? I asked, raising my voice, and pushed back the chair to take a seat.

I crossed my knees, one hand back on my spoon and the other bringing the bowl closer to me. Dragons may well be related to that family tree. We are not snakes, despite having many genetic flaws from many years of evolution."

"I'm going to act like I understood what you are talking about." A dragon, not a snake, is what's meant to be said in the end. "I could say the same thing about wolves and dogs." He murmured, pushing his spoon to the side and dipping it into his empty bowl. He leaned in closer to me and folded his arms on the table.

"You called us dogs earlier." He abruptly stopped talking to me.

"I did not call you a dog."

"Oh? Thus, it's offensive? Defensively, I said. I gestured to him with my spoon. "I don't know how I feel about that."

"You referred to my kind as snakes. That greatly offends me." He covered his heart, giving the impression that he was hurt.

"So we are even then."

"Whatever you say, mate." I was shivering down my spine when he stated it. I believe he heard me swallow. I was somewhat anxious. I turned to face the cave's entrance. By now the sun had disappeared for good. In the doorway, the fire dogs were performing. This cave, which had before frightened me, was now beyond stunning.

The blue flame dancing in the moonlight, the way the fireflies illuminate the quartz walls. Vince's face lit from the side by the fireplace. Everything was idyllic and tranquil-yet too tranquil.

"Is it alright if I stay here tonight?" I questioned, glancing at my attractive, charming, flirtatious partner.

"Just tonight?" With an eyebrow cocked.

I gave a nod, my swallow echoing in my spirit. My one-day trip did not satisfy my desire for adventure. I only had a limited number of years left to live, so I had to make up for the eighteen years of solitude.

"Where are you going?" He questioned, sounding as though he was considering or dreading what he would say. looking for the best course of action.

"Anywhere far away," I shrugged. I wish to explore the uncharted territory of the planet." I clenched my hands in front of me, having long since forgotten the soup I had in front of me in my adventurous reverie.

"How about elves?" He offered a compromising hand gesture. His laugh lay on his face.

"Elves?" My curiosity was piqued. It is only now that I realized the existence of elves. How awesome!

"I was asked to attend the peace conference in two days since King Villious of the Elves and the Dwarves are now at odds. Would you like to attend?"

"Attend a meeting where there will be dwarves and elves ?" I let out a delighted squeal. "Please count me in!"

His laugh in the moonlight filled the room. "Well," he said, his smile glowing in the bright light. "I believe there is a plan. Tomorrow, we're going to depart, make a quick stop at an old buddy of mine, and then make our way to the kingdom of Leaflumber."

"An old friend?" Meeting new people didn't bother me at all; in fact, I highly recommend it! Nevertheless, I had no idea who my friends would consider friends.

He has an easy time winning over my pals because the only person I have as a fan is myself. Even still, I would have to win over thousands of his pals. The quantity was intimidating.

"They name him Flores, and he is a wizard. A longtime buddy of mine, with whom I have spent many days." I saw Vince's eyes glaze over as he drifted off to dream of old times with his pal. I hope the same thing will happen to me when I'm older and meet new people.

I couldn't contain my excitement as I pulled back my chair and headed to the bed in the room's corner. "I'm excited to meet him," I said.

"I must warn you, my love." How I cherished the way he addressed me, my darling. "He is-" he interrupted.

"Oh, that's not possible. Tell me. I said, taking off my shoes, and then I sat down on the comfy bed.

"You will see tomorrow." His grin of teeth piqued my interest. I could not stand the excitement that flooded my spirit. I might not know what to do with myself because I have so many adventures ahead of me. I turned over in bed.

"Are you going to bed already, Audra?" He enjoyed calling me by name because he still didn't understand that this was true. It was adorable. I adored it.

"Yes, I want tomorrow to come faster." I turned my back on him and pulled the covers over my shoulder.

I swear that several hours later, I had a hazy memory of my partner climbing into bed with me.
