Chapter 2 The Queen's query

Evelyn's POV.

"Mate!" I whispered, standing in front of Crown Prince Noah of the Silvery Moon Pack.

He was a 24-year-old man, and had just returned from the University. Everyone stood at the front of the palace in shock, after they heard me mutter mate.

Prince Noah has an intoxicating scent of chocolate that draws me closer to him.

But with the rejected look on his face, I was scared that he was going to reject me.

Alpha King Wells, and his wife also glanced at me with surprise as they stood outside to welcome their first first son. And having heard me boldly whisper the word "Mate!" All eyes standing outside of the grand palace glared at me because I was an Omega.

"Evelyn, who is your mate?" Queen Sabrina broke the silence and asked me. Her voice filled with malice. Her eyes shooting daggers my way, as she wore an expensive red bodycon dress and black shoes.

Her skin was brown and her face was adorned with heavy makeup.

She stood beside her first son, glaring at me.

I cannot believe that I was mated to Crown Prince Noah of the Silvery Moon Pack.

"I'm sorry, My Queen, but..." My lips trembled, my eyes darted among the crowed, as my head lowered in shame.

An Omega cannot become Luna, so what was I saying?

I was unable to meet Queen Sabrina's gaze as that would be considered disrespectful. Or meet the entire royal family's gazes directly.

I had been working in this palace since I was fifteen years old and graduated from the pack's Academy, which was an highschool.

Queen Sabrina never liked me. She never wanted me to work here in the palace because I was an omega..

According to her, only the Beta's children and those of higher rank are expected to work in close proximity beside the Alpha, not an Omega child like myself.

"Why are you apologizing to us, Evelyn? Go straight to the point and answer my question. Who did you call your mate?" Queen Sabrina barked, her voice filled with fury. As she disliked to see me. She doesn't like the fact that her husband permitted me to work in the palace.

On that fateful day that I came to apply for a job as a maid in the rpyal, Alpha King Wells was present, and he granted me permission to work in the palace.

But Queen Sabrina forbade me from entering the inner chambers, and only allowed me to clean outside the palace, like sweeping the field, and cleaning windows and doors.

I wasn't allowed to work inside the palace, as they had other maids doing that, which I never complained about. So long I was paid.

"My queen..." I couldn't respond.

"That's enough, mother," Prince Noah cut through air, before I could speak.

"Let's all go inside," he said, diverting the attention away from me to himself.

Of course, this was his homecoming day from his return at the pack's University.

I hadn't seen him before. He was my senior in college, as he had graduated from the pack's Academy before I entered.

It was a day-to-day school for the poor, while the privileged had to stay in boarding.

I have heard from some she-wolves gossiping, who had been in boarding discuss Prince Noah, but I hadn't set my eyes on him.

This was my first time seeing him as the privileged were allowed to attend any festivities of the royal, while the poor stayed at home.

The wealthy men's children in our pack mingles with the royals, while those of us from the lower class were expected not to show our faces but to stay hidden, and pretend like we weren't from this pack.

"But..." My voice broke through again, pained and hesitant. Tears welled up in my blue eyes, seeing Prince Noah not wanting to acknowledge me.

He pretended like he didn't know that he was mated to me. The bond was present and I felt the strong attraction to him. It was not the same with the other men around.

"Evelyn, you are hereby fired for disrupting my son's homecoming from the pack's University! What gives you the right to think that you can make yourself very important on this day and steal my son's attention? Have you lost your mind?" Queen Sabrina barked, her eyes glaring at me, her tone loud and silencing the crowd.

She wanted to hit me, but Prince Noah quickly stopped her.

"It's okay, Mom. She's of no importance," he said, breaking my heart further, but I fought back the urge to sob.

I couldn't believe his words.

Prince Noah had just arrived back from the pack's University, I thought it best to allow him to go inside and enjoy his homecomings party that his mother had set for him.

I couldn't take my teary eyes off him. But I eventually looked away, seeing the rest of the werewolves glaring at me for trying to steal Prince Noah's attention, like Queen Sabrina claimed.

"You're highly welcome back, my son. I'm glad that you have finished your Alpha training at the pack's University. I cannot wait for you to become mated and make me a Grandma!" Queen Sabrina squealed, leading her son into the white mansion.

Alpha King Wells and his second son walked into the mansion next, while Princess Bella and her friend, Stella, gave me warning glares as they followed behind their fathers back, and went into the mansion.

The chiefs accompanied them, as they went into the magnificent palace building while I could feel my heart breaking, her chest tightening by the sourness of Prince Noah's rejection.

Crown Prince Noah hadn't rejected me, but knowing that my mate would reject me made me howl in pain.

I trembled and quickly hid my face from the she-wolves that gathered around me, after the Alpha's family and other high-ranking members of our pack had gone into the mansion.

My parents weren't involved in this gathering as they were currently at home.

"What were you trying to feel like?! You dimwit! Chubby, ugly, duckling!" I heard most of the young she-wolves bark at me. Their eyes shooting daggers at me. Their fist clenched as they gathered around me at the front of the Alpha's mansion.

"Answer us!" One of the rich young ladies yelled, dragging me roughly by my blue maid deess. Her firm gripped tore my dress a little as she let go of me.

She pulled me to the center of the crowd of she-wolves to speaking.

"I cannot believe she called Prince Noah her mate!"

"An Omega cannot rule us!"

"Look at her! A weak shewolf."

"Ugly, duckling albino!"

I was trembling, unable to speak or respond as hot tears flowed down cheeks.

I had thought my mate would love me and accept me, and I would have a beautiful life.

I had hoped and dreamt of meeting my mate. In my dream, my wolf met with her mate, and they were happy together.

He was a strong black wolf with enchanting white eyes, and he loved and cherished my wolf.

He had the same eyes like Crown Prince Noah. But seeing him for the first time and perceiving him as my wolf, I felt sad that he didn't acknowledge me or accept me as his mate.

Instead, he had looked at me like I was stupid to come forward in front of all his pack members and call him mate.

What should I do?

Should I file for a rejection or patiently await his response?
