Chapter 7
Bringing the groceries back home, I saw my belongings thrown into a corner of the living room.
I was upset and demanded, "Why are my things in the living room?"
"Don't you dare speak to us like that!" My father was furious. I had always been obedient and uncomplaining, and now I dared to question them.
My mother walked over and said, "Mary, your sister-in-law's mother is coming in a few days. She'll stay in your room, so you'll have to stay in the living room and sleep on the couch at night."
"Isn't there a study room? It's much bigger than my room. Wouldn't she be more comfortable there?" I expressed my concern.
My mother glared at me but then softened a bit, "That's your brother's study. How can we let someone stay there? He needs it for work."
Remembering my revenge plan, I decided not to argue further. I quickly reverted to my role as the obedient adopted daughter and turned to prepare a lavish dinner.
Watching them relish the delicious food, I thought to myself, this might be their last lavish meal.
