Chapter 2

Outside, the situation was so dire that I didn't dare to go out. Then, I stumbled upon a post from a reliable expert I had followed for years: "Collect rainwater using any containers you have at home. The disaster is ongoing, and it's going to get worse."

I immediately dropped everything and opened the door to tell everyone to collect rainwater. But what I saw was Davina lying weakly on the sofa, with the whole family gathered around her, comforting her.

"You did this on purpose," Davina snapped at me with hatred, turning her head away to avoid looking at me.

"What more harm do you want to bring upon us?" my father stormed towards me, his face red with anger.

I shrank back in fear. "I didn't harm you. Everything I said is true."

No matter how much I tried to explain, they just wouldn't believe me. They were convinced I was trying to harm them, holding a grudge from my childhood and seizing the opportunity to cut off the family line.

The more I explained, the angrier they became.

"We don't want to see you right now. Just leave. Go hide from your high-temperature disaster."

They collectively pushed me out of the house and slammed the door shut. I knocked on the door, and it opened just long enough for them to throw a bundle out.

I didn't leave the neighborhood. I believed they would realize I was right and eventually accept me back.

Sure enough, that night, the temperature soared. The hallway felt like a furnace. I called my family, but no one answered.

Slowly, the soles of my shoes started to melt. I took them off, but the ground was so hot that I had to keep hopping to avoid burning my feet. I pounded on the door with all my might, but no one opened it.

Before the night was over, I started to lose consciousness. In a daze, I heard voices from inside,

"We've taken care of her for so many years. It's time she repaid us. If she had any sense, she wouldn't come looking for us now, taking up extra resources."
